IIRC this was an old YKTTW that I may have once championed several years ago...it didn\'t show up on a quick search, so trying to rezz it...

Basically far too often when the hero or heroes truly starts kicking serious butt and offing mooks left center and right, the mooks will very VERY rarely suddenly realize that they have a very high chance of death in the next few seconds, and thus bugger off in abject terror. Instead they\'ll just continue to fight, and die, often to the last man/creature, without a single solitary one finally deciding to try to save his own bacon. Often without fear ever even being shown on any of their faces...

Meta-reason is that most battles would be pretty boring for the audience if every battle resulted in a mass exodus of enemies.

In-universe reasons would include Brainwashing/Overtraining or being genetically unable to flee (thinking DS 9\'s Gem Hadar here), Camaraderie and Honor overriding any survival instincts, thinking that if they outnumber the heroes they must still have the upper hand—or are simply Too Dumb To Live.

I\'ll start a YKTTW (yes it\'s been renamed) if it seems workable to the peanut gallery here.

You forgot mindless mooks such as zombies or robots, which are justified in never breaking morale.

I suppose, tho the way that trope is worded the specific notion of morale isn't really mentioned (indirectly alluded to a few times). Guess I could add a few notes there about morale...
