Log Horizon District - Theldesian Embassy

While harboring neutral expressions, the guards stationed at the checkpoint didn’t seem to think anything was amiss with their inspection.

Once everyone arrived at the embassy, Kova would turn around and say, “Well, this is the place everyone! Let me show you to the conference room.”

Though, seeing that Selim might choose to explore the district instead, Kova would also add, “Well, feel free to explore the rest of the district. The rest of the Empire might require you to fill out more paperwork and take a boat or train. Plus you wouldn’t want to get too far away from your dad right?” note

Kova would then lead King Bradley and anyone accompanying him into the embassy, through a lobby area and into a conference room somewhere on the first floor. There was an elevator and stairs leading to other floors, though as a whole, the embassy seemed relatively quiet.

At the center of the conference room was a large, wooden donut-shaped table with many seats circling around it. At each seat, installed into the table, was a stand for holding up papers or tablets, and in front of that was a place for storing name placards.

On the wall to the right, were two large maps side by side each other. The left map depicted the area around Melkia, Britannia, and the wastelands, at least to the extent Theldesia had learned about. It was clear that there was more landmass to the south but those parts were unmapped.

The right map depicted the area centered around Akihabara, and all the major polities that inhabited it. As a more or less general map, it didn’t go into detail about how how densely populated different places were, nor did it necessarily reflect de facto control. On the map, Theldesia’s territory stretched along a strip on the east side of the central peninsula north of Akihabara proper, with most of the central/western part of this peninsula recognized as belonging to the First Order. Most of Theldesia’s territory sat on the peninsula east of Akihabara, across the “Strait of Haman,” and Theldesia’s capital New Sistina lay roughly in the lower center of this. There was more land beyond the northeastern extent of the Theldesian Empire, consisting of a region labeled “Neo-Camoan Frontiers” with a city labeled “Camoa Ruins.” It was apparent that more land lay beyond this region and beyond the eastern edge of the map.

The other powers near Akihabara were also placed in their respective locations, and the lands beyond the other nations’ recognized borders had labels with numerous variations of “Frontiers.”

The Akihabaran-central map also seemed to have a fairly detailed outline of the eastern coastline for the subcontinent Amestris resided on, though the rest seemed to lay beyond the edge of the map.

Kova would walk over to a cabinet sitting at the corner of the room, fetch a small stack of papers, and then head toward the table, going for the seat opposite the room’s entrance. She would then lay her tablet on the stand and set the retrieved papers down, before inviting King Bradley and anyone else to sit down.

“So, let’s get started,” Kova would begin. “First of all, seeing as you’re a new contact for us, we don’t really know where Amestris is on the map, and knowing that would be a good first step in setting up any formal trade route. We could use the portal like we do for reaching Melkia, but as you’ve seen, traffic can get quite hectic, and it’s not really the best for transporting things in bulk. If you don’t know that’s fine.

“I could bring up a list of our nation’s major surplus goods, though of course we’ll need to consult the relevant departments and receive the Empress’s approval before any deal is finalized. Speaking of which, I’d like to hear a bit more about Amestris itself. It does look like you’re from a world like the one my brother and I came from, but each world has its differences. For instance, where the Earth, Fire, and Water people come from, there are many who can use techniques to control the four general elements. Then there’s the place where the people of Camoa were once from, which had monsters, airships, magic, and crystals that can change peoples’ combat specialty. Theldesia is home to many different peoples from many different worlds, and it is the will of our beloved Empress to see that harmony flourishes throughout this world.

“By the way, have you had any encounters with other nations or groups on your side of the portal? The Jadewood Knights did seem to indicate your arrival into the Frontiers might have been recent.”

Log Horizon District (Exploring)

Selim, should he have decided to wander off on his own, would have been able to explore most of the district at his leisure. It was definitely possible to traverse most of the district by foot within a reasonable timeframe, given its somewhat small size. Here and there, there were quad-copter drones hovering in the sky and cameras watching the streets and alleys.

The closest semi-notable buildings to the embassy was the Log Horizon District courthouse and the Log Horizon district hall which had once been Siluca’s headquarters a long time ago. A bit further south, there was also the Log Horizon district police headquarters, a small library, a building labeled “Office of Imperial Commissions,” and a few other municipal buildings.

The western walls of the district tended to snake based on which parts of Akihabara Siluca’s empire had been able to incorporate. Going northward, the walls would eventually veer eastward where Akihabara proper had bordered a river, until it eventually reached the eastern coast.

Towards the northeastern corner of the district, there was a train station which fed into a bridge that ran northward through the walls and across the river. There were also paved roads which ran across this bridge, though access to this bridge was restricted by an even more elaborate checkpoint station to vet people who may have just wandered in from central Akihabara. That being said there did seem to be a few consulting/legal offices nearby for helping people who wanted to travel through Theldesia get acquainted with things.

The eastern side of the district was a bit busier compared to the rest, with boats dedicated to fishing and shipping freight from other parts of the Empire. There didn’t seem to be many large warehouses, though there was a small section of the harbor with a crane for unloading boat cargo, some of which were fashioned to be towed by trucks. There was also a ferry/boat travel service to northern ports or places across the strait, though this also had its own checkpoint station. There seemed to be little in the way of actual ship construction here.

From the eastern shore/wharf area, more piers could be seen to the north, though the bridge and northern district wall obstructed most of the northern region from sight. It was definitely possible to get a better angle by going out onto the piers themselves, though the Amestrians’ presence would definitely grab the attention of the local dockworkers. That’s not to say Selim and his entourage wouldn’t be prevented from accessing the docks, though some of the workers would be a little nervous or curious that military officials from a new country were here. Some of the local officers that happened to be stationed here would probably ask who the Amestrians were though the situation could probably be explained to them.

From the piers, there was definitely more that could be seen of the region north of the Log Horizon district compared to before. First, there was a second wall banking along the river, though past that, along the main road/railroad, there appeared to be a large property enclosed by chain-link fencing. Inside from this angle appeared to be a large parking lot filled with a few military trucks like the ones the trading convoy used. Again, much of this area was obstructed view by walls, and the angle provided by standing on the piers didn’t provide much of a glimpse into this facility.

Further north in the distance, the main road fed into something in between a town and a small city. A few tall buildings stood out in the center of this region, though they were probably a dozen stories tall at most. While the buildings that lined the west side of the road after the chain-linked area seemed to have other miscellaneous purposes, there were a lot more buildings that looked like houses in the northern region, with many having a somewhat sizable amount of property space, some with trees and foliage in them. Things seemed slightly more packed the closer one got to the taller buildings. A few smoke plumes in the distance suggested factories. Along the shoreline, there also seemed to be a few drydocks and shipbuilding sites along with the other piers.

A few other observations that could be made when going throughout the district: though there might have been some construction further out in the northern region, there was no construction going on in the Log Horizon district itself. Aside from a few apartments and condominiums, there did not seem to be many residential buildings in the district, nor did there seem to be many industrial facilities outside of a few craft or vehicle repair shops.

Unless Selim was on the lookout for something else in particular, there wasn’t too much else of note.

Nightingale - Frontiers Medical Center

"Trying to get your doctor tipsy. Bold. Yet more proof that the word suits you."

Releasing her grip just a tad to make it easier for Eugen to drive, soon enough the familiar sight of her medical center envelops her. A whole day and she didn't have to think about who to operate and oversee upon next. Huh, imagine that.

"Are you simply looking to stake your position publicly? I don't recall you being so insecure." the head nurse stared curiously at the bote.

"Assistant will do fine enough. And there's no point in making it clear, my staff already suspects the extent of your visit to my office."

"... Unless this isn't what it's about and you just wanted to be referred to closely."

Tucker's Residence

The letter itself couldn't get any more official, what with there being the insignia of the silver lion, proof of it being from State Military. On it were details regarding the incoming Evaluation Day, where Shou Tucker has to present an adequate report, the fruit of his research for the past year if he still wishes to remain in the State Alchemists program.

Though the State applauds his breakthrough in the field of Chimera Transmutation that earned him his State Alchemist Certificate, his last year's performance proves lacking.

"I'm... not really that good of a litmus test." he nervously laugh. "I don't know what it's like in your world, but here, His Excellency is like a figure the public look up to. Especially with all the conflicts that happened back in our world, he's something like a war hero to us."

"And alchemy is a specialized art that requires years of research and experimentation to master. Personally speaking, it's only fair that those that toiled their entire lives into this studied field to be given special privileges, much like any other specialists out there."

At Mr. Wake's suggestion, the alchemist smiled, finally threading onto a topic he's familiar with. "Certainly. Even better, why don't I show you two a personal tour through my lab? Seeing is believing, after all."

Should the offer be accepted, Shou Tucker did just that; showing them through an iron door leading to his personal laboratory where he conducted his research. There were specimens lined up, from small caged beasts like a three-headed monkey that screeches to jars of questionable animal parts. On the floor was an intricate incomplete transmutation circle.

"To what you've said, Mr. Wake, you're speaking about applying alchemy in the medical field. While I do have some familiarity with it, Dr. Marcoh is the real expert in that particular field." he corrected. "Mine is more focused on the creation and modification of synthetic creatures. To study its properties, mix and match certain elements of particular animals. See what makes them tick, and if we can implement them in some ways." he chuckled. "... Considering what I do, I couldn't ask for a more appropriate title."

"... But they all pale in comparison to my first real achievement. The one that got me admitted to being a State Alchemist in the first place." Reminiscing, the alchemist touched upon the cage of one of his failed chimeras. "As intelligent and impressive as alchemically-synthesized beasts are, attempts to largely make them imitate human mental acuity have been met with false starts and dead ends. But through my research, I have bridged that gap with my magnum opus, one that opens many exciting future possibilities: the creation of a chimera that can talk and understand human speech."

Theldesian Embassy

Walking through the conference room and sitting himself, the Fuhrer allowed himself to be flanked by four officers standing at attention while the rest of the entourage awaits elsewhere, either by the car or outside the door.

As the speakers addressed him, so to do the Fuhrer speak. "We've been hard at work, making our own maps the moment we stepped into this melting pot of a land. While I can't say for certain of our relative distance with each other, reports given by the locals surrounding our State heard tales that Akihabara lay far east of Amestris." already, Bradley has motioned for one of his officers. "He'll retrieve the documents, so we can compare our world maps with each other."

"As for what we have for trade..." a hand is brought to his chin. "Our first concern is to know our neighbours. The lay of the land, so to speak. Right now, we have little intel to go on regarding foreign major powers for the past three years since our nation is brought here. Anything else is secondary."

"That said, the possibility of such is much appreciated and I'll look forward to meeting your Empress. We Amestrians pride ourselves in the progress and the security of our people, and the opportunity to learn and adapt these strange and alien powers for the benefit of the state is quite intriguing," He smiled jovially. "At the very least, it'll certainly keep our universities busy and researchers pulling their hair for years to come, haha."

"And ah yes, my talk with Mr. Wake have certainly enlightened me to much, regarding the similarities and differences among our worlds. I'm still coming to terms that actual magic exists." Nodding to one of his officer at his side, the man stepped forward and began drawing something on the table with a small chalk. "But as for ours, our one defining truth in our world would be alchemy, the ancient art of understanding the structure, the decomposition and re-composition of matter. To utilize so, the alchemist would have to understand the inner workings of a given field, draw upon their own understanding visually..." A circled pentagram is then made. "And by utilizing the energy from the movement of the Earth's crust to said catalyst, transmute the matter into whatever said alchemist wish, limited only by his own understanding and the law of equivalent exchange that governs all alchemy." bringing both of his hands together, the officer then laid his hands near upon the transmutation circle...

... before energy arcs and something akin to a toy wooden cannon appears(and with some of said table around it scraped off). With another nod from the Fuhrer, the man rewrites the transmutation circle, places his palms on them and the table is fixed good as new, in exchange for the toy cannon.

"... Of course, this is simply the basics of basics. Any more and I'll intentionally be divulging state secrets." the Fuhrer coughed and smiled just a tad teasingly. "Suffice to say, there's many branches and specialties to it, each one of them unique in their own rights. And like any alchemists worth their salt that pursue their own path, we guard our secrets jealously. Not without an exchange of another's knowledge and expertise."

It is about then that the officer in charge of retrieving the maps and documents returned. "Ah, good. Just as I laid down my hands, they're here. Peruse them as you wish." Sprawling over the table was both a map of the Central region of Amestris and of what they had managed to map Amestris so far in relation to the rest of the world(most of the area around Central city were either small towns, designated into mines, farmlands, hamlets or such that were all connected by still-developing railways).

Frontiers Medical Center - Akihabara

"Hmmph, as if. No one could ever accuse you of having a limited imagination. It is not some matter of insecurity, obviously it is about..." Eugen crossed her arms and rested slightly on the steering wheel, thinking for a very long moment.

"It is just... there is clearly some - I believe zat you and I...." She frowned, her cheeks reddening slightly. "I'm not sharing ze same title you give to some pasty-faced dorks! It is indisputable that I am, after all, quite ze catch, not just some fresh-faced girl from school who is here for her internship. When one is a rear admiral, you would not call them a lieutenant, yes?"

She pouts slightly, nodding confidently.

"And obviously the main point is that it needs to be something professional enough for others to use too. Of course it...."

She fidgets, pulling her arms apart slights so she could interlace her fingers, her chin slightly pressed against her knuckles.

"...it doesn't have to be vhat you call me, if you had something else in mind...."

The Seafang

Another precise strike, and another damaged hand later, the machine held up its stumps, looking forward.

Complying with his request to give him its all, the machine gave one last hoorah - its laser powering up all while firing off a massive volley of missiles from its back, dozens upon dozens of the damned things launching up and then starting to home in on targets.

Its stony, cold, unfeeling face-lens staring straight at Wulfrik, a hot beam of superheated air streaked out from it at the angry, angry man.

"Those don't look particularly friendly!" Naga cheerfully comments as she fires off one blast of wind after another, diverting a couple of the missiles. So helpful!

Central City, Tucker Residence: Victorian-Era Science Fiction with Professor Wake

An Evaluation Day?

Wake studied the date of the document and tried to make sense of the timeframe. That had been an unexpected pain back when he was first stepping outside his Gotham comfort zone: learning the different time cycles of places that were either not his model of Earth or not Earth at all. Some places show up in September, some appear in mid-May, while others arrive in the heat of the Angethipian Mating Season. The point being that time measurements were difficult to translate when you live on a rock full of places throughout Nerd Fiction. Least he recognized the name of the month, so that was a start.

Once he was cleaned off to his satisfaction, the Chief Adviser stowed the letter back where he'd found it, satisfied that he'd found two clues in the message. The first clue offered a reason for all the clutter: Shou Tucker was a man working under immense pressure to avoid striking out. Considering that he still had this castle of a house, it was safe to assume that Evaluation Day—no matter how soon it'd be upon the Life-Sewing Alchemist—had yet to arrive. Not that that fact would help Mr. Tucker sleep well at night.

The second clue didn't say as much about Mr. Tucker as it did the Führer: namely, that King Bradley trusted Alan Wake about as far as he could throw him, so he sent the Chief Adviser to a struggling has-been to learn from a so-called "Expert" of alchemy. An "Expert" who was barely keeping his license and was more than likely about to be out of a job very soon. It was an almost insulting move, and it compelled Wake to dig even deeper into this shady kingdom, if only out of spite.

Accepting Mr. Tucker's invitation to check out the laboratory, Wake followed the alchemist through the house like a visitor to a famous museum.

"In your world?" parroted Wake. "So I take it the cat's out of the bag? Not that I think it'd be easy to hide such a colossal shift, but Amestris has been isolated a lot longer than any of the other city-state; hard to say how much was kept quiet, but at least we don't need to tiptoe around that issue anymore.

"...Incidentally, what's the date? Different worlds mean different histories, so it can be tricky to determine how much or how little we have in common—dates tend to be an easy metric for stuff like that."

Keeping the date of the letter in mind, knowing what day and month it was now would tell Wake just how long Mr. Tucker could keep calling himself a State Alchemist.

Once inside the research lab, Wake was immediately drawn to the caged animals like a child at the zoo. While he didn't cross the line of trying to touch or communicate with the chimerical failures, he did crouch down to study them with an utterly delighted look on his face.

"Y'know, Mr. Tucker, you remind me a lot of a character from a book I once read: the titular physician in a novella called The Island of Doctor Moreau. The story's protagonist/narrator winds up on this isolated island that's home to an infamous surgeon—Doctor Moreau, if you couldn't guess—who has spent over a decade performing vivisections on all kinds of critters big and small. He ignores their screams as he cuts them open and sews them shut, molding them bit by agonizing bit into a new form: a human form. These Beast Men learn to speak, to walk on two legs, and to turn away from their beastly nature and embrace human rationality and thought.

"For a while, everything's hunky-dory...but that's when the narrator learns that this enlightenment doesn't last forever. One by one the Beast Men start to revert back to their feral nature, and they fear the pain Moreau will inflict on them to make them 'human' again. Eventually, Doctor Moreau is killed by one of his savage creations, and the whole island erupts in a civil war between the Beast Men who lean towards Beast, and the Beast Men who lean towards Men. The narrator ultimately escapes the island, but once he returns home he finds that he can't stand human company—they always seem like they're just a few steps away from embracing the beasts inside them.

"The resemblances in your practices should be obvious enough, but even though he's a living nightmare for animal rights advocates, Doctor Moreau has good intentions in mind. He recognizes that humans stand above all other animals, and rather than stoop to their level he strives to raise the animal kingdom to his. He even claims that pain is a construct that enlightened humans can not only bear, but completely ignore; I believe he stabs himself without flinching to demonstrate this. So while there's always pain to accompany gain, he wants to make the Beast Men see that, at the end of the day, he's just trying to help them be better than they could ever be walking on four legs. But I guess enlightenment isn't something that can be forced onto anyone."

Wake stopped for a moment as he realized that he'd just given a mediocre lecture on a hundred-something old book like a Sophomore English teacher. He rose to his full height with a touch more red in his cheeks.

"Sorry about that." he tittered. "I was a writer in a past life. You could say I've got a bit of a fixation when it comes to stories with monsters in them."

The Chief Adviser crossed his arms as he mulled over Mr. Tucker's greatest achievement—hardly a great feat compared to the surgeon H. G. Wells imagined.

"Hmm. Now if I were in your shoes, I'd mash a parrot and a primate together to get a chimera who can have conversations. Like an African parrot and a gorilla hehehe, now that doesn't sound like nightmare fuel. What was it like? You talk about the weather and stuff like that?"

It seemed Mr. Wake was understandably ignorant of just how big of a breakthrough a talking chimera truly was. He sure as hell didn't seem that impressed, but no doubt that was because he was a complete stranger to not only alchemy, but to Amestris itself.

So while a bit late on the uptake, the Chief Adviser pulled back his latest statements at the first sign of (imagined) offense.

"My apologies, Mr. Tucker. It's rude of me to make light of something so extraordinary—it's a accomplishment that'd make even Doctor Moreau proud! After cracking a code that tough, I'd imagine that you're set for life!"

Once again, Mr. Wake was more jovial than the subject demanded—and once again, it was because there was no way he could possibly know the truth.

". . ."

Honestly speaking, Gale still fails to see the appeal in having an appropriate title but clearly it means much to her new co-worker, for her to keep on insisting. The Head Nurse isn't one to normally indulge, but...

"Personal Bodyguard." she starts to list off. "The Director's Escort. Adjutant, at best. You're more than qualified as a combatant, yes, but you also haven't gotten acquainted to my workforce formally. Give it a week, month and I'll consider it."

"Promotion to anything else, up to and including pet-names from me personally, you'll have to earn for yourself."

"Personal Escort and Bodyguard.... Ja, I suppose I can live with it. And bah, a week or a month? I am patient, no? And in that time, you will learn just how much protection I can offer. By month's end, even ze Fire Lord herself will be angry and jealous that she is stuck with her guard, and filled with fiery rage that I am standing by your side. Well, that, and because red is far better a color on you than her." Eugen perked up with each word, her hands going all over the steering wheel - thankfully the truck had been barked and the engine off. "As for earning anything else... well, what good is something if you did not earn it? If a majestic mountain is not also tall and proud, nobody would desire to climb it, no?"

Tapping her hands on her legs like a drum for a moment before opening the door, she scooted out slowly and did a tiny spin when her foot hit the ground, a faux half-pirouette, and leaned back, using her hands to support herself on the door frame.

"Well... we vill be crossing ze threshold of your abode for ze first time since walking this new path. Is there a special tour you vould like to give me of ze facilities, now that I will be... an insider?"

Vicky Vale —Tucker’s residence.

“I suppose you are right,” Vicky replied to Alan. “The truth will eventually reveal itself. Even a cat’s cuteness can only take you so far before the ugly side shows up.”

It was all a ruse of course. Now that she had most likely thrown away the suspicion of them being interested in the power of alchemy.

“Names mean nothing at the end. If he wants to be called King, emperor or Princess makes no difference.”

She smiles at Nina, or the idea of her if she wasn’t there. “If a place like this can make a girl like her that happy, then your Fuhrer must be doing something right.”

Vicky stares at the chimeric creations of Mr. Tucker, of course making sure to take some photos of them with her phone as discretely as possible. She didn’t use the flash function, however, so unless Mr. Tucker was familiar with such technology it wouldn’t be immediately obvious.

“Now this is something my readers will want to hear about. Can’t guarantee good opinions. But the gazette will sell plenty of issues. Who knows I might even get a bonus. As for me... well “ she pressed her lips. “I will try not to think of this when I am dining.”

The reporter stays silent as Alan starts to make some literary comparisons. Others would make such lectures feel like being back at school. But Alan somehow made old literature interesting. Perhaps there was something about his voice. The mixture of both energy, and passion with a tint of premeditation was what made him stand out from the common man.

“Never missing a chance to show off,” Vicky said to tease him. “Not that I am complaining.”

She smiles widely at Mr. Tucker while referring to Alan. “Lucky for you. He is as smart as he sounds. Tree times more clever than your average man. And about as half as he thinks he is.”

The revelation that Mr. Tucker had managed to give those abominations the gift of human intelligence and speech, made her frown. She stood in silence, lost in thought.

“As disturbing as this might be, I commend down you for this achievement, Mr. Tucker. I suppose there must be a higher purpose for this... than simply being able to increase our social networking with either animal kingdom. Isn’t it?”

She takes her phone. Now in recording mode.

“Any statement you would like the people of Gotham...and eventually the whole world to know, Mr. Tucker.”

Club Murciélago—- The bachelorette with Chun Li!

“I am the most powerful man in town!” Or so he claimed, as he pointed at himself with a huge grin.

“Well not counting those costumed freaks. Nothing happens without my family knowing all about it. “

And to prove his point, he opened his wallet to brag. Inside the wallet, there were several $100 bills. He also showed off several of his jewels and a Rolex watch to try to impress the martial artist.

And to complete his gangster persona he resembled Michael Corleone.

“Let’s just say, Miss that I am not a good man. But women don’t want good men. No. They want strong men. And strength is something I have plenty.”

As for Mr. Zhongly, he would say, “I am but a mere consultant at the local mortuary. They always ask me about rituals and traditions from religions all over the world. And I happen to be an expert in botany, Economics, history, worldwide cultures, and martial arts. I am also a lawyer that specializes in contract law.”

One curious thing about this man is that he didn’t mention anything about money. Presumably, because he didn’t any...

“Why don’t you pick me,” A blond woman would ask. One that looked identical to Rebeca Romiji with a wide grin on her face.

Chun li would be able to easily tell it was Mystique, because her eyes, flashed a golden tint for a split second. It was an intentional giveaway she gave for her.

Tempting as Lappland's offer was, Sonia shook her head. One, she doubted it would work, and two, the golem took precedence at the moment. And speaking of said golem, it was now firing missiles everywhere. Some of which were now headed towards her and the others.

Thus, she moved. Taking off with a burst of speed, Sonia ran towards the golem. While not fool enough to try and destroy the missiles herself, she was brave enough to try and get them to track her, and hit the golem's body as she ran past its legs and underneath its lower body.

Yue - About to ruin Daud's whole retirement

Tipping her hat brim back, Yue leaned to the side to give the old man a wry look and a shrug from over Reiko's shoulder. She followed her old colleague into the cottage, hands in her pockets as she wiped her shoes at the door.

The first question, she left for her android companion.

"You don't have to, I suppose." She replied to the second, finding a bare patch of wall to lean her shoulder against, arms crossed. "Your network would be pretty useful, but I know you don't hold the reins there anymore. At the end of the day, though... if you're anything like me, there's something you've been needing closure on for a while now. Like, about ten years." She added meaningfully, flicking a glance towards Reiko.

-Wulfrik's eyes go wide as he sees the missiles heading for his ship, and his only means of escape once he has accumulated enough victims in the eyes of the gods. He screams in the daemon tongue at the Seafang, which obediently jerks to the side, regardless of the commotion on deck as the crew tries to keep its footing.-

-Eyes still on the ship, he is struck full on by the construct's baleful gaze.-

GRRAAAAAAAAAGGGHHHHH!!!

-The Seafang drifting closer to the robot, he manages to gain a foothold on its shoulder.-

Nightingale - Frontier Medical Center

"... That makes sense, yes. It'll get the other staff formally acquainted to you too." thinking out loud, Nightingale got out of the vehicle and obligingly walked beside Prinz. "Come." extending a hand(or even an elbow), the two was directed towards the botegirl's new workplace.

Over the years, the medical center has grown quite respectably; as does their facilities and equipment. In addition to being fully-equipped and staffed like any other modern-day institution, creature comforts is also abundant. The patient's lodging itself ranges from a cozy room for themselves to a state-of-the-art technological marvel that can monitor one's condition at all times.

The staff itself is equally varied, some being of them being surgeons and doctors while others mystical healers and shamans. A few are even armed and armored, combat medics that serve as security details in addition to Nightingale's new initiative dubbed the Pledge Guardians. While some bowed and nod respectfully at Nightingale's passing and took note of Prinz Eugen, more than quite a few moved about busily while acknowledging the two with a glance. Seems that even with the day being peaceful, there's still plenty for folks to do.

Speaking of, they would then arrive at another Wing of the building, the Department of Frontline Response. Initially a voluntary service consisting of nothing more but a mixed bag of combatants and healers back during her expedition into Gotham, it has since grown into a respectable force in its own right; ensuring that aspiring Pledge Guardians are sufficiently prepared before being deployed. Here, drills were done, lectures were given and state of world conflict and warfront is monitored within their central headquarters, where resources can be better allocated and personnel sent depending on the severity of the conflict.

Naturally, it was a department that Nightingale was much at home with, given her occupation in life. And in all likelihood, it's also where the Head Nurse feels like Prinz Eugen would be of better use.

"I've made rounds here every now and then." Gale said, looking over the screen before poring over the papers brought to her by a glass-faced assistant. "I expect you to get used to the place, and to accompany me when an emergency does occur somewhere, Prinz Eugen."

... Already, this illicit attention, surprise and gossip from the staff, wondering if she, the Head Nurse, the obsessive workaholic of a war medic, are actually formally going out with someone and it's not just her entertaining the envoy's request all these years ago.

Barry - Fantasia Ruins/Seafang

At the sight of Sonia shaking her head and chasing after the big dumb robot, Barry's enthusiasm all but deflates itself. "Aww..." Guessing that's a no to a brawl, then. Didn't help that said robot is just about on its final legs, so that's going to be wrapping up soon.

"Fine! I'll go find my own fun!" stomping onto the ground in a small tantrum, Barry shot a harpoon at the Seafang before quite literally lifting himself up towards the boat- coincidentally enough getting into a position to grab the blasted-off Wulfrik, which he'll try.

"Yo, boss! Hah, looked like yer havin' a good time!"

Whether the grab succeeded or not, Barry would nonetheless continue to propel himself until he's up on the deck.

Tucker Residence

Regarding the understandable question regarding the date, the alchemist nods and told them. Being isolated from contact and the rest of the world, the time varies, though they thankfully adopted the same Earth calendar. Even more importantly for Wake's purpose, it puts the date on Tucker's Evaluation Exam in about a week or so.

At the lecture however, Tucker's smile strained.

"Y-yes, in the realm of fiction, anything's possible. But just think, bringing fiction into the realms of reality, bridging alchemic creation ever so closer to humanity like your Dr. Moreau. It's not simply a matter of combining the vocal chords of a parrot to a primate, it's making them understand and communicate full-fledged language with an intelligence of their own! Years from then and so on, they will be others like me, pouring over and using my research as a basis for the creation of more advanced and sophisticated chimeras."

"... Of course, I must stress that this was done entirely within purview of my superiors." he added when Vicky gave her honest comments regarding his experiments. "No ethical oaths were breached, no laws were broken. Among the ironclad rules laid out for us alchemists is that human transmutation is forbidden, as is transmutation of any material into gold or other precious materials, for reasons that should be self-explanatory on its own."

At being given to make a comment to Gotham and possibly the rest of the world, Tucker blinked, looking just a bit lost and perplexed. "Oh, I uhh... I don't know what to say, haha." he coughed. "... While I initially took on the State Alchemist exam as a way to support me and my family using the research grant from the programme, I've come to pride myself in being one of their numbers over time. To explore the boundaries of what science can achieve, I feel, is the true purpose of us alchemists."

Near The Seafang

Wulfrik is indeed on the golem's shoulder, as it sinks to its knees when Sonia runs by and strikes its legs. Ripe for the plucking, like a tomato on the vine.

Akihabara Skies

"A job or advice...."

Rosalina's hand goes up to her face, stroking her cheekbone for a moment.

"If you are in need of both, there is no reason to pick one or the other, is there? Is that what you believe you want? What you feel you need? To have something to work towards?"

Frontier Medical Center - Akihabara

No one could ever accuse Eugen of being unwilling to full accept and utilize anything she could be offered like this, which was why she took both the elbow and hand that were extended. One arm tying the knot with the offered elbow, she crossed the remaining arm across her chest so she could grab at the nurse's hand. Still, despite both the sense of excitement she felt figuratively, and the distraction she felt literally, she did her best to pay attention, committing every last detail to memory.

She may have been a teasing, flirting, mischievous lush, but she wasn't one to lie about her commitments, after all.

In the patient's room, she holds her hand out, slowly and firmly pressing downward on the mattress to test its composition.

"We are definitely using my French bed instead of this sort of thing."

At the fancy modern observation unit, she softly runs the back of her hand against one of the mechanical arms protruding from above.

"Vell, sometimes only a robot can provide the precise touch you need, no?"

And, of course, she also made sure to return every greeting and smile with an earnest one of her own whenever they encountered some of Gale's staff. She also might have gripped Nightingale a little tighter and closer when anyone got a little too near.

When they reached the Department of Frontline Response, she licked her lips and gazed around the room for a long moment.

"Ah, ze command center. I am most assuredly not unfamiliar with this type of place. It will be like slipping on a shirt I've not put on for a while - mostly my size, yet still something I need to be careful easing into." Looking around to take in the size and complexity of the area, she couldn't help but smirk. "I remember when all of these places were simply abandoned husks, no better than caves and just as filthy. But now.... Now your vision is reality. Years of work, of effort, of special deliveries for zis to be made. And now here it is, ready for you to show it all off to me. It is rather... cute, no?"

She playfully pokes Gale lightly in the shoulder.

"I believe I can get used to this place. And but of course, you need not even ask that; in any emergency you can count on not even a line of tanks being able to pry me from your side. Although, it does not require an emergency for me to accompany you, no?"

Tucker Residence: Forbidden Alchemy, You Say?

"...bringing fiction into the realms of reality."

Wake buried the urge to laugh. Shou Tucker, you poor poor idiot—you're no closer to reality than you were the day you were "born." None of you alchemists are. You're all just hamsters running on wheels, and all that "progress" you brag about is just the aches and pains of your futile effort.

"Sounds like a legacy to be proud of." the Chief Adviser smiled. "...though I'm curious: why is human transmutation forbidden, exactly? I get why precious resources would be off the table—that's an economic nightmare waiting to happen—but humans are just really really smart animals. Sentimentality aside, what's the difference between meshing a gorilla with a parrot and meshing a gorilla with a human? Sounds like your research would be miles ahead of where you are now, were it not for that one rule."

Despite the heartless implications, Mr. Wake didn't look like he was encouraging the alchemist to go out and practice the field's #1 taboo. Hands in pockets, brow slightly furled, and eyes locked on his host, the Chief Adviser seemed genuinely curious about what he considered an unexpected custom. He might as well be asking a French person why they kiss each other on both cheeks as a form of greeting.

After all, what's the harm in politely asking a question?

On her way out, Tawna stopped short before running headlong into Maria, having to catch herself before colliding with the woman. Once stopped, she nodded.

Akihabara Skies

"Being occupied and having an occupation are not the same thing," Rosalina.

"Doing something only to keep your mind busy only lasts so long. When you're as old as I am, you learn that quite well. You do something to be occupied, but you don't know why, and you will run off at the first sign of something new. And while this is not a particularly big world, it is still not one I'd want to have to search all over."

She holds one hand out, gesturing over Akihabara.

"But an occupation, that gives you something you cannot run from. A goal. A responsibility. Even in ten years, in a hundred, no matter what distracts you, no matter where you've gone, your goal will always follow you. I can't promise that what I provide will become your goal, but I can provide you with what is required to make it so. The question is will you give me the time to try?"

Viki Vale (mystique)—Tucker’s home

Alan Wake had just stolen the words from her mouth. His innocent question was anything but. And she knew it.

Why was that taboo? Was it merely ethics. Or perhaps it was fear. Fear of what could happen. Or perhaps of what had already happened.

“There is a difference between being unable and being unwilling isn’t it? Sure you as a family know how to play nice, Mr Tucker, but not everyone is like you. In fact most people aren’t.”

She plays with her pen while looking up.

“What’s stopping a criminal, someone that might dislike your Fhürer, to do what you won’t? Alchemy, as a science is someone everyone can do provided they have the knowledge, is it not?”

“There might be half human hybrids out there already for all you know. Human with wings of birds that resemble angels, or someone with the claws of a wolverine. Mutants if you will. Hypotethically of course. “

“And if they existed... would your people try to destroy them?”

Vicky would then keep writing on her notebook to keep the charade of her being a reporter.

“Well then, any other interesting wonder or place you can show us? Any other boon brought by miracle of alchemy. And don’t hold back, as what might seem like a mundane thing to you, could be something my readers will want to hear all about it .”

Nightingale - Frontier Medical Center

"... Cute?" To Nightingale, she view her hospital's progression as a matter of course. It was a natural progression, if she wishes to rid the world of all diseases and harm. So it was how she felt, even if she did feel a minuscule amount of pride too.

At the sight and touch of Prinz Eugen alluringly and defensively staking a claim around the head nurse throughout the tour, in addition to attracting questions and gossips from her staff all the more, Nightingale proceeds to resolve this in as straightforward a manner as possible.

With one hand lifting the botegirl's chin up followed by a deep kiss given immediately afterwards, without any forewarning given to Prinz.

It lasted for several moments, long enough to send a lasting impression to her staff... And hopefully long enough to satisfy the bote as their lips slowly parted ways, with her gaze clear as day lingering onto her charge.

"Does that answer your question?"

Some of the folks blushed at the sight, with one even outright fainting! Yep, definitely no more misunderstandings.

Tucker Residence

"..." The alchemist considered it a moment, seeming in deep thought. "Ethics. Like I said, it should've been self-explanatory." he corrected his glasses, choosing his words. "Transmutating animals is one thing. Subjecting a fellow man as a test subject is another matter entirely, especially if it could result in something irreversible." and gestured to his two guests. "Take you two, for example. I'm sure you or your friends wouldn't appreciate me turning you into a hybrid mix of both man and beast, would they?"

... And gave a light-hearted chuckle soon after. "Well, that, and you're prominent guests from afar. I couldn't get away with it even if I did try."

At Vicky's words, Tucker cupped his chin. "... Supposedly said someone has the aptitude and skill for it, they could. And they can get away with it. If something of the likes is done beneath the notice of the military, there's few things that can stop them." he admitted. "Which is why the military is rather strict with its rules and quick to act, in that regard. Once caught, the perpetrator will likely be court-martialed. Or worse."

Regarding on what the state would do with the experiments...

"... No, not immediately. We would most likely detain them, in one of our four prominent Laboratories in Central. Illegal experiments that they are, they still prove both a danger and fascination. Depending if it's possible to even reverse their condition..." he lets the word linger, hopefully that being enough of an answer to the fate of the unfortunate.

At being pushed to ask for other wonders or places, he gave a nervous laugh. "Unless you're interested in perusing my research materials, I'm afraid my other labs are the same. I have books written by myself and the reference materials I used in my personal library regarding the subject on Chimeras, a treasure trove for any other researcher... but I imagine they don't make for exciting news."

"You can try asking for other State Alchemists, or even our libraries." And once more, he cupped his chin, wondering. "... They're strictly reserved for State Alchemists and authorized personnel only. But since you seem to know our Fuhrer personally..." and thought. "If you can get around to getting special permission and papers to enter through one of our Central Labs somehow, the sight and stories you'll hear from our frontmost researchers will be well worth a read."

Tucker Residence: Show Me the Money! Ungodly Abomination!

Mr. Tucker's carefully-chosen words did what his offhand "realms of reality" comment could not—they forced a chuckle out of Alan Wake.

"Mr. Tucker: if 'Ethics' were self-explanatory, there'd be legions of professors on ALL of our homeworlds who'd be out of a job. The multiverse would've gotten Confucius or Socrates and then called it a day! I don't think Ethics are self-explanatory, nor are its applications. But it's more than that: I don't think Ethics are self-evident. Humans are self-centered walking-talking hypocrites, and the only way we keep ourselves in line is by learning the rules of society long before we're expected to play the game on our own. As a father to a young child, I hope you're not expecting little Nina to discover what Central defines as 'right' and 'wrong' all by herself; I'm sure you agree that'd be hardly fair to her."

The Chief Adviser seemed delighted to dive into the hypothetical. He crossed his arms in thought as he mulled the thought exercise over.

"Alright...but what if I begged you to fuse me with an animal?" he smiled. "Maybe I was born with an incurable condition that left me stuck in a bed for most of my life? Maybe, in my invalid reveries, I dreamed of flying like the birds that soared past my window? If your experiment failed and I couldn't be turned back, I wouldn't return to my painful existence—some might consider that its own reward. But regardless of the risks to me, you'd have my consent and blessing to try anyway. You get a chance to advance your research, and I get a chance to fly...or at the very least, experience something as simple as leaving my bed. What's wrong with that, aside from that the military says it is so?"

Wake chuckled along with the State Alchemist; seemed Mr. Tucker was giving up the thought exercise on his own accord.

"It'd be a tough sell, that's for sure!"

Something wasn't adding up. Of all branches of society to uphold what's right and wrong, the military was probably the least likely candidate. And a military with a goddamn Führer at the helm wasn't going to be killing the enemy with kindness anytime soon. Fortunately, his companion had made the same conclusion. Typical Mystique: using personal examples to ask the big questions...though Wake's eyebrows couldn't help but raise a bit at the suggestion these "Mutants" would be put down if no one could cure them.

Congratulations, Mr. Tucker: you've just found yourself on a shit list everyone should fear to be on.

The State Alchemist offered some helpful next destinations, but they'd likely be dead ends if Vale and Wake tried to enter through the front doors. Bradley had sent them to a struggling has-been, after all; if the Führer had any interest in teaching them about alchemy, he would've introduced them to someone more (stably) prominent in the field. Regardless, Wake waited for Miss Vale to jot down any notes she wanted to before asking their host for any other helpful leads.

Perhaps it was time to press a little harder; he couldn't guess what Mr. Tucker's reaction would be, but it was bound to be fun to watch. Maybe they'd get something out of it, or maybe they'd be swiftly shown to the door, but either way it seemed appropriate after what the alchemist had said without thinking.

Whether she showed it or not, Shou Tucker had just made Raven mad; the bastard deserved to have his arm twisted a little.

"Speaking of exciting news, Mr. Tucker." Wake winced, as if he wasn't entirely sure if he was speaking out of line bringing this up. "His Excellency did mention something about a presentation you're supposed to make in a week or so. The Führer has high expectations for the results of your research—it's basically the reason he sent us to your doorstep in the first place! So...if it's not too much trouble..."

Wake left the thought unfinished, and waited with suppressed revelry for the doomed State Alchemist to respond.

Frontier Medical Center - Akihabara

"Wha-"

Eugen floundered nigh-weightlessly at that alright, eyes going wide for a moment before closing again, her mind blanking out on her. While there were many things she would say to describe Gale, 'eager to initiate some PDA' was definitely not on the list. Well, not previously at least. Having to mentally reconfigure her understanding of the world was the main reason she couldn't quite think of anything else at the moment. Still, when the head nurse finally released her patient from treatment, said patient blinked several times, blushing fiercely and short on breath as she listened to her question.

"I... my question? Ze - I...." She shook her head for clarity, and then nodded. "Y-yes! Of course. Though I would not mind a reminder from time to time...."

She coyly smiles, and then looks around the room, glancing at the faces of anyone in the command center who was looking at them still, grinning wickedly at anyone who matched her gaze. Just because Gale had caught her flat-footed - the slightest, smallest, teeniest bit flat-footed, she would insist if ever asked about this - didn't mean she would let herself be the poor, innocent doe caught in the giant headlights before her.

Not... for long at least.

"Fufufufu, I knew you had ze heart of a wolf - marking your territory in front of ze whole pack, asserting who is the dominant one to them all." She leaned in closer, running a finger along the nurse's shoulder. "If you ever need my assistance in reminding ze pups who is ze alpha, do not hesitate, no?"

With a wink and a lick of her lips, she pulled back - slightly - tugged on her arm.

"Well, you've been quite ze lovely tour guide, and I look forward to going over every inch of ze building, but what's say we finish putting things where they belong, and then I factor in..." She puts a finger up to her lips, and looks like she's counting up something in her head, the other fingers on her hand rising up as she adds an item to her mental checklist. "One hour for you to show me how clean you want everything to be, and arranged just right before you are comfortable leaving ze room, and then we go out again?"

She grins, far wider than before, as she looks at the rest of the room.

"Otherwise if we stay here, I fear how many more of ze staff will have trouble thinking. And standing. Not good for them to be inefficient on your day off, no?"

Vicky Vale (Mystique)— Mr. Tucker’s residence

“Would I?”

“There is a certain pride in being different, Mr Tucker. Being like everyone else might be safe, but the price is that nobody will remember you. “ Vicky replies to their host. “You could say the real disease is not on being outside the norm, but in those that can’t accept progress.”

After Alan, explained how ethics were complex she noted in the agreement.

“As for you, Mr. Tucker. Would you say Ethics are a line nobody should cross or...an unnecessary obstacle to your research? Would you cross that line if you could? Wouldn't it be a relief not be shackled my the nuisances of morality? “

As Mr. Scratch had predicted Mystique was furious. She was staring at Mr. Tucker when she crushed her pencil. She pressed her lips. And also sheshe gave him a blink and you miss it death glare, while he wasn’t looking at her.

But then again, she wasn’t stupid. Lay one finger on the alchemist, and she ruins the whole mission. Mr. Tucker truly was lucky he had a daughter, one that made, even the mutant, restraint herself. For now. Instead, she gives Mr. Tucker a fake, yet warm smile.

Alan would owe her more than a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant for her self control.

Given Alan was fond of literature examples, she gave one of her own. Albeit one more well known than his more obscure and inetekctual one. One hiding a threat of her own. Albeit one more common knowledge than his, relatively, obscure reference.

“Has your world heard of the myth of the Titans, Mr. Tucker? They were creatures of incredible power that ruled the world. Not unlike your empire. Their king, Chronos, fearing one of his children would replace him, he ate them whole. But one day, Zeus the one child that survived, came back for revenge. And the age of Titans passed by to give birth to the age of gods.”

She puts her right hand on her hips. “You can get many lessons from that story. But this one is my favorite: Try as you may run from your past, it will always come back to haunt you.”

And as Alan Wake made his final question she added,

“Anything you can tell us in advance about your research, Mr. Tucker? Is it perhaps something a world changing discovery?

Vicky takes out her phone to try to take a picture of Mr.Tucker.

“As hard as you try to appear otherwise, I can tell you are not an ordinary man. The Fuhrer wouldn’t be so good of you if that were the case. “

Gotham, Skies Over Coventry

"Roger that, Krillin!" his crimson-eyed police partner chirped over her radio as she leapt skyward off the roof of the Iceberg Lounge, then somehow somersaulted off of the air repeatedly until she was at the intrepid Mr. Nigma's cruising altitude. Smiling widely, the blonde in the blue of Gotham's Finest settled into a three-point crouch suspended in the sky, then shot off in an impossible dash at inhuman speed across the Gotham skyline in pursuit, feet finding purchase in thin air.

Before long at all, she had easily caught up to the man in green-and-question-marks and was running alongside him. "Hello!" she greeted cheerily with a little wave, shouting to overcome the rushing of air, "The Riddler, right? I love your outfit! It's very stylish!" Her other hand came up from her waist with the old police standby: a pair of handcuffs. "I gotta take you in now, though, okay~?"

Her form vanished, and in an instant she was standing in the opposite direction and just far enough in front of Edward that he would collide with her if he kept going for more than a couple seconds. As he doubtlessly closed the gap, she reached over with her now open handcuffs and slapped one side on his left wrist while seizing his left hand and prying it off the joystick control. Holding his left hand in an iron grip, she forced it over to his right hand (easier said than done with the jetpack still going, but she dug her heels into the air and managed it), and clamped the other side of the cuffs over his remaining wrist.

"Mister Edward 'The Riddler' Nigma, you are under arrest!" she enunciated primly, grinning up at him, "Now, how do I turn your jetpack off? Did you build it yourself? It's really neat!"

"... Comments like those are dangerous." Tucker replied, in answer to both Wake and Vicki. "No matter what my thoughts are on the matter, those are the rules set by the state and I don't ask questions. I certainly wouldn't wish to be caught criminally-charged by military officials." he coughed. "I mean, look at me."

"... If there's ever an opportunity to do it safely, I would welcome such willing volunteers." Saying all there is to say on the matter, the Life-Sewing alchemist immediately broke into a sweat as Alan asked him about his research, not further helped by Vicki's comment on being unable to run from the past.

"Th-" The Fuhrer taking a personal interest? That's- some small part of him is flattered, even proud of the fact that his research is being universally acknowledged. But all of that is overshadowed by the very fact that his result will be seen under very close scrutiny. They're expecting results, and they damn well expect it soon.

"I-it's," between the two's advance and the pressure of the deadline looming over his head like a grim reaper's scythe, Tucker's composure is all over the place. "It's been progressing along nicely, yes! I just need mor- no, wait, yes, I'll definitely get it done!" Instinctively, he reached out for his Silver Pocketwatch inside his coat, the sign of his status as a State Alchemist. He would not return to those dark days.

"I... I can't show it yet. It's in the works, but-" Tucker's mind then drift towards his daughter. "I'll have them done when Evaluation comes."

Nightegale - Fantasia Medical Center

Already, it seems like Prinz Eugen got used to the head nurse, to start counting on how long the tour and moving the furniture would take. Which suits the Servant just fine.

"It'll take less if you're already taking count."

"E-erm," a recovered blue-haired woman coughed, asking the important question all of them had considering their boss wasn't one to usually take breaks. "Would want us to keep in touch in case for emergencies while you're on your date, Miss Nightigale?"

"Yes." she replied as a matter of fact. "That should go without saying." Refreshing though everything had been for her today, not once should she forget her duty.

"Understood." she bowed towards Prinz Eugen next. "Have a safe holiday, you two~"
