Yeah that's the complicated part.

Like there are people there who certainly don't agree with their insane leader but he's got all the guns and power so they have to remain silent and keep their head down.

And whether they like it or not, the Russian government would keep a close eye on something like this as propaganda efforts.

I know quite a lot of Chinese and Filipinos who get judged because of their Governments.

[up][up]That said, this studio is still apparently funded by fucking war profiteers who are likely helping the effort to wipe out Ukraine. It does not really matter whether or not the individual devs support the invasion.

IMHO, the more distance between me and Russian war profiteers, the better.

This guy's You Tube channel gives a pretty decent perspective of the controversy from that of a Russian expat (who's currently living in Georgia).

TL;DR: kinda the same as what everyone else above is saying: the game's PR material and the companies involved are shady as hell, ESPECIALLY Mail.RU and My.com, but at the same time you can't risk making something that can be perceived as anti-Russian in any way, especially in today's political environment.

If I have to wait a year or two to buy this for five bucks, I can live with it. Hopefully Putin will have been crushed under his own ineptitude by then so I won't even have to feel guilty for that.

One of the first things I heard about this game was the questionable people and businesses connected to this game a few days ago.

Even if I think the devs have their hands tied and aren't willingly cooperating with Putin's government, I can't exactly feed the Russian war machine with my wallet, so I'm just going to skip over this game.

We're starting to get some detailed reviews.

Consensus is that it really wants to be this fast-paced action RPG inspired by immersive sims such as Bioshock or Dishonored, but never comes quite close due to all sorts of little nit-picks and a few frustrating glitches. Oh, and the water is uniquely terrible - like, a good chunk of it is basically just a solid texture that doesn't even respond to your presence in any way. You can literally just walk over a couple of lakes and bodies of water, and you won't even see any water ripples reacting to your presence.

  • ACG says it's overall a good game. One consistent complaint is the melee combat, which is both too floaty and because of the first person perspective has problems with accurately gauging the effective distance of both yours and enemy attacks.
  • Gman Lives Found the dialogue cringey, with some odd inconsistencies or signs that more than a couple of script editors went through making changes yet didn't communicate with each other. Turning on the Russian voices for a more authentic experience is an option, but given the rapid pace of the gameplay, constant dialogue, and small fonts, it quickly becomes impractical. He enjoys the gameplay though, and it ran pretty well on his PC hardware.
  • Skillup doesn't recommend it. He hated the combat, especially when in the overworld. Because of how quickly enemies can respawn and be repaired by the small helicopter drones, there's little point in fighting groups of robots unless you absolutely need something nearby or cannot progress otherwise. It's nowhere near as interactive as the environment or abilities would lead you to believe either: lots of red barrels and gas canisters lying around seem like they're meant to be explosive, but in fact aren't and can't even be thrown around.

Skillup's review is interesting to me coz a lot of the issues feel like something that'd be caught in playtesting. Like the respawn rates, the super spongey enemies. Clearly the game had extensive testing coz it runs super well.

There's weird options like no disabling mouse acceleration or no fov sliders.

Sad to see the writing come up from several reviewers as the game's major weakpoint.

Funny that ACG notes melee combat as the weakness and Skillup says it's the best part of the game and the best melee combat he's had in recent memory.

It's baffling that mouse acceleration is not considered by dev in 2023. I thought we already reached the consensus that FPS game must have mouse acceleration option.

Does that mean I don't get the job?

I've been watching some let's plays. The environments are very pretty at times, but you definitely get a "look, don't touch" effect (to quote one of the reviewers) of how little the world actually responds to your presence. Besides the water there's also other weird things, like balloons being solid impervious masses. Seeing a lot of insurmountable waist-high fences.

P-03 has definitely has extremely cliche dialogue, even for the triple-A market, but the bigger crime is that the game is oddly chatty and never shuts up even when it really should. You'll be fighting for your life and your glove starts dropping important story info right when you'd rather focus.

Kinda frustrating, as it feels underbaked and you can see a great game if they just polished it a bit more.

From the looks of it you can tell this is the studio's first game.

Like not first big game but first game ever so its their first attempt.

you can't risk making something that can be perceived as anti-Russian in any way, especially in today's political environment.

The whole "your data gets handed over to the Russian government" bit is still a big yikes, though. Even if that only applied to Russian citizens.

The sad thing is I find that pretty underwhelming, since our data is already being taken by everyone else

Russia doing it basically just gets a "Get a ticket and get in line" from me

That is a pretty depressing but hilarious thought.

But at least the organizations getting our data aren't currently launching a war of aggression.

General consensus from reviewers seems to be this game is mediocre from what I get. Some Good ideas, bad execution. Basically more ambitious than they could succeed at. Albeit funnily the story being lackluster is something that I've seen brought up in multiple reviews (plus the creepy sexual innuendo kiosk robot).

The computer closet thing you use to get weapons and skills is sentient. You first meet it when it tries to eat you using a lot of sexual metaphors, and every encounter afterwards is rife with gross sexual humor. Like, "I want your hands inside me, squirt that polimer baby" sort of writing. And later when you meet her surrounded by corpses she'll tell you how lonely she was and had to "sate her thirst". It apparnlty would have been genuinely funny with one or two jokes but every single time you use it means it reaches creepy levels.

This review goes into it.

Honestly, if this is a game meant to compete with Bioshock and Dishonoured. Stuff like this uh isn't doing a good job of that.
