I must said that sound funny to me as a venezuelan really. but is probably the issue of being both a lefty and yet being so desenchanted of it at the same time.

While one should try to change things for the better, one should always keep in mind that one fundamental truth:

It can always get worse.

which let to a even more unconfortable truth about it.

Sometimes, you can indeed make everything worst and it will be your goddamn fault about it.

I was thinking of getting this game at some point, but there's some legal controversies going on?

x5 Granted, what makes centrism bad isn't that it keeps things from changing.

It's that it refuses to do anything while the situation keeps getting worse.

In Disco Elysium for example, aside from the usual issues with capitalism there's the small matter of reality itself slowly being erased. The Pale slowly but inexorably expands. And unless a solution is found and attempted, humanity's living on borrowed time.

Okay, maybe I should get this game. The Pale sounds like some horror that I'd dig into.

Sometimes you cant stay aside and sometimes you dont realize you fuck up so bigly until the deal is done, hell sometimes you dont realize until you drive everything away.

One can said in a political way that communism always have a big risk, big reward idea of "let change sociaty, by force if needed to be" and.....well, it lost.

meanwhile centrism is good in peace time but it tend to shiver with big deals happen and boy, that sound like a big deal

Yeah when it comes to big political ideologies if they lose, they cost a lot of people.

And the best thing people and political leaders can do is follow what they think is best for their people.

Also I got this game on a sale. So let's see what this pale is.

On that bit about centrism in peace time, I dunno, it sounds like a pretty shitty ideology to me in general.

It's a big deal in the setting but barring a couple of sidequests (won't reveal which ones if you haven't played it and are planning to play it), it takes a backseat to the main plot.

This makes sense since in-universe it's also a lingering background dread that people try not to think about as they go about their lives.

Thank you for not spoiling any more.

Anyway, it's already downloaded, so I'm very interested in what existential horrors await.

The Pale is notably like global warming. It may be a threat NOW but it won't end the world in a big flashy way.

Also, the Centrists may actually deal with the threat by nuking Revachol when, in fact, they just needed to build a disco over it.

Specifically, they just need to have a public venue where people will gather for whatever reason. It's not clear why, but the Pale's expansion is resisted (but not stopped per se) in the presence of a lot of people.

Yeah, you wind up doing more to slow the expansion of the pale in a matter of days than the centrist capitalist government has in decades of clandestine research just by helping build a discotheque blasting the hottest new electronic dance music on top of a 2mm patch of it

My inclination is it's not just gathered people but joy. Genuine heartfelt faith and hope or awesome blinding disco music will hold back the Pale that is, very possibly, the literal embodiment of despair.

Okay, finally started the game after some surprise stuff came up.

I picked psychological. The opening narration is bizarrely creepy and reminds me why I should never drink booze.

I guess protagonist man went through a messy divorce. Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Or kill em all and let God sort it out.

Some thoughts about the beginning:

There's a bit of Fridge Brilliance when you note your tie is tied to a high object, you are suffering amnesia, and in very poor health. I think he attempted to commit suicide.

Man, it really is a pretty uncomfortable start. Especially when I have to report in with the station.

Wondering if I should play good cop and get my life in order, or bad cop and just fuck shit up out of spite.

The game offers both options.

We talking Bioware style comically "Hey everyone, this hotel discriminates against the poor." evil or Planescape Torment soul crushing evil?

FINALLY got to examining the corpse. I really like Kim so far. Dude did not ask for any of this, but he's very helpful.

Cop protagonist man sounds like an asshole pre-game.

The game not only provides four political philosophies but gradients on all of them.

• You can be a Communist
• You can be a fascist
• You can be a Communist who believes the rich should be murdered and anything is justified for the revolution. You can be a hippie liberal pacifist.
• You can be a fascist who believes in being an ends justify the means Cowboy Cop and Flag-Waving Patriot but still hates racists or you can be a complete racist misogynist.
• You can also be a Centrist (Which means Democracy believing law abiding citizen) or Capitalist.

What you can't be is not a cop.
