Goblin Slayer (anime! light novel!)

Sword Maiden made her debut today.

Definitely Medieval 2B.

So.... How were the Goblins able to avoid the giant Gator before Goblin Slayer and his crew showed up?

Its controlled by Sword Maiden and she couldnt bring herself to use it?

Sword Maiden feels what her familiar feels, smells what it smells. She describes what it, and she, felt when the alligator attacked the goblins. Terrified of goblins as she is, it's understandable that she rarely, if ever, used it to attack the goblins before Goblin Slayer and party arrived.

You gotta admit, that's kind of a severe downside to using a familiar. How many of us would be able to cope with those sort of sensations?

It does sound like it would be disorienting.

I certainly wouldn't be forming a pact with a familiar if that was the downside. It certainly explains why Sword Maiden hadn't been more liberal in setting her familiar on the goblins more. If she feels what it feels, it'd basically still be her facing the goblins. Also, she described the feeling of arrows and blades on scales and flesh, so she also felt the pain her familiar was feeling when it attacked the ship.

I guess I should have paid more attention to all of the GS reviews popping up on Youtube. I didn't realize this series was getting so popular so fast.

Here, have a parody to distract yourself from the constant arguing.

The voices are a bit hard to hear, and I feel like this wasn't a great first episode but, given what they had to work with, I'll say they actually made that scene amusing in a twisted sort of way.

Shouldn't they wait until the season is over before doing an abridged series?

I don't see why they can't... *shrug*

I never really cared about Abridged series one way or another. Seems like every popular (and some not-so-popular) anime gets one these days.

Because the season isn't over, it's premature. Most Abridge series start after the original is over.

And these days they usually aren't all that good. The best ones are still the stuff from Team Four Star, Something Witty and Yu Gi Oh Abridge.

It was a one-shot, so there was never a plan for that team to do a full series.

Which is a good thing, because I found that one to be less than great. Decent to good editing though.

I've been wondering if they're planning to do the farm raid as a closing to the season because they want to end it on an awesome war sequence.

We are already about halfway through the series, so I don't think they'd be able to finish Water Town, the Farm Raid and the Harvest Festival. I'm actually kind of surprised they included the Slice of Life episode, though if they are planning to do the Harvest Festival arc it makes sense since that episode introduces one of the primary antagonists of the Festival arc.

I just finished watching Episodes 5 and 6 today. I really am enjoying the show. I wouldn't call it AOTY but it's a nice little show. That's all I really have to say.

Oh so albino gator was Sword Maiden’s familiar? Did know that from episode, but that’s powerful

This is the first time I got frustrated with the lack of state force against goblins because it’s Watertown and it honestly should have some token effort from city guards let alone hapless adventurers

IIRC isn't the official response from the government why do you need the army when Sword Maiden is there?

Yes. I still haven't watched the anime, but in the manga there was a scene where the king got Sword Maiden's missive (while he was in the middle of planning a battle against the demon army) and he was just like "You, personally, should be able to handle this by yourself. Figure it out, we've got other things to deal with."

I just read he was also one of the heroes who defeated the previous Demon Lord

So the most generous reading of his character is that Sword Maiden never told her comrades of her past trauma so the King doesn’t understand or know why she’s so hesitant about facing goblins. Or more he does and doesn’t care.

I believe the most recent LN confirmed he doesn't know and her abuse by Goblins happened before she joined the team she beat the Demon Lord with.
