From ATT: So, Alphabet News Network is currently "fictional TV news channel is based entirely on CNN" — the examples on the page, with 5 or so exceptions, seem to follow this. But the wicks don't seem to. I think this is due to the name, with the word Alphabet suggesting that any short string of letters counts, the trope's use devolving into Bland-Name Product for TV news. I think this would be a permissable expansion of the trope, however, and we'd probably only need to add to the trope page that it's not just CNN, but also BBC/ABC, ITN/ITV, CBS, NBC, etc. that the fictional TV network can be styled after — or just follow the 3/4 letters style to emulate the real world feel of being a big brand news network.

I'll add that I think the "follows the 3/4 letters style" might be preferable because there are examples that make good use of this: like an animal-themed movie having the news network "ZOO". These examples would also likely draw more context, too, and it is still using the style of name that has now become the default/reliable/recognizable style for credible news channels in the real world.

Well, if the issue is in the wicks we need evidence that they are wrong, not just an anecdotal assertion.
