You know, I think one very easy way to make Loki sympathetic would be to play up his paternal side. I'm surprised I haven't found a take on him where he's understandably upset about his children being punished for things that haven't happened yet, but is unable to do anything about it directly.

[up] What happened to Jormagonder, Fenrir, Sleipnir and Hel was nothing. Remember the part where the gods tie Loki to a rock and dripped snake venom in his eyes for calling them out on their shit? What they tied him with was the entrails of his son Narfi after they turned his other son Vali into a crazed wolf that killed Narfi.

The later part is adapted out in most versions I've seen. Which makes him look like an asshole trying to start the apocalypse because they punished him for a murder he did for fun..

This is why I hated that Marvel turned his children, Fenrir and Hela, into not being his children but the latter into his older adoptive sister and him into a she-wolf attack dog. Hela already had her own attack dog and I felt it would have been a great opportunity to see a valid reason why he has resentment against Odin. It could be the fact that his adoptive father treated his children so poorely. Heck, I wonder why the comics didn't do that take it would have been a grey issue and even though they are making Loki into a Anti-Hero they kind of refuse to show him in a paternal light. And in my opinion it's shown that the take that Hela is not really is daughter is kind of being ignored because I love seeing them as biolgical father and daughter.

[up] I think at least part of the reason is that Loki didn't appear in Marvel Comics till the silver age. At that point subtlety and nuance literally wasn't allowed thanks to the comics code authority.

[up][up][up]The idea is that the guts of his son were the only thing that Loki would be unable to break. Trickster or not, even he couldn't escape the bonds between a parent and a child.

Kirby and Lee used Norse Mythology at the time because it was known that the more popular Greco-Roman mythology. Seriously, I wonder how the comics would be if they portrayed things more accurate to the myths. I kind of wish they made Angrboda, Loki's giantess mistress, into a recurring villainess in the comics.

If I recall correctly, Cyrus is actually the only gentile to have been referred to as a messiah due to him ending the Babylonian Exile.

And the first shorts on Athens right here and Cartage here.

Okay, I was exited at first, but one minute is really not enough to get into the really interesting stuff.

[up] I'm assuming (also due to the aspect ratio) that the shorts are meant for the Vine/Tiktok audience, my inferrecne is that there is a 1 min cap on video length there.

I still wonder why the dragon wasn't a girl. I could just see someone doing a lesbian interpretation of that tale just to fix that plothole.

Or the Prince for that matter, since the dragon would be the firstborn, it would make sense for them to be the first gender picked (and they are)...and for the sibling to be the opposite gender in turn (which they aren't). Or at least for the dragon to be non-binary.

The first rose she ate was the white one, which was supposed to give her a daughter. Apparently when you eat two roses you get a lindworm baby but the second rose works as intended. Or maybe the red rose always overpowers the white rose so you always get a healthy boy and a male lindworm? If she had eaten more than two roses would all but one of the babies have been lindworms?

The two children being of the same gender is somewhat important because it makes the lindworm technically correct for claiming he has the right to get married before his brother.

There's a webcomic that makes the dragon female with the white rose and goes for as suggested.

[up][up] Good point, but It still find the mechanics of the roses strange

(I assume that sexism in the age of Fairy Tales meant that noblemen were always able to marry their daughters off with little to no limitations)

I prefer a trans interpretation to that little bit of weirdness

mom gave birth to 2 boys, but one of the bodies doesn't match them. they still identify as a man, and the story ends happily once he is able to live as his true self.

a perfect metaphor? no, but fairy tales as metaphors rarely are perfect.
