Everyone's favorite card game series takes a trip to cyberspace. We already know the Hero, some supporting cast and who he has a beef with. Now we only have to wait for it to actually start.

Oh, that is great. Haven't heard good OP or ED songs in a while.

I was fond of Arc-V's openings and endings. Besides the first OP and last ED. Have you heard Speaking? That shit was great.

"Speaking" was far and away the best of ARC-V's endings. Opening-wise it's a tough struggle between the two Synchro Dimension arc songs, "UNLEASH" and "Trump Card" for me.

Both of VRAINS's songs sound good from the previews, and I'm still amused by them getting the Jojo singer for the opening.

I would go with Unleash. Can actually remember a part of the song unlike Trump Card. Had better visuals too. Can't wait to see Vrains OP tomorrow.

Though, is it me, or does the OP sound more it fit a fantasy series, like regular magic and stuff, more? It just sounds too adventurous for a series like Yugioh.

Yeah the Synchro arc had the best songs in Arc-V. I haven't listened to the ones for VRAINS because I want my first experience of them to come with seeing the first episode but if they're even half as good I'm looking forward to them.

OP 1 is pretty sweet but ED 1 is pretty lacking. This is funny to me, because I had the exact opposite opinions of the songs themselves.

So I heard Xyz monsters showed up as Freeze-Frame Bonus. That said, I'm still thinking the other ED methods aren't going to be prominent for a while just due to marketing and advertising.

Yeah the song's pretty catchy but the footage for the ending is incredibly, incredibly boring unless they update it completely at some point in the future. The opening's still pretty cool, though. I liked the nod to the original series's Millennium Item eye symbol and the design of the new Dark Magician-type monster; it reminds me of Antinomy's humanoid Tech Genus monsters.

Sheesh, Ema even has the Megaman Battle Network facemask thing going on.

Yeah, but I guess it'll take a while before finding subs.

Pfft, I've seen shows get fansubbed the day they aired. I doubt that a show as well known as Yugioh would get less treatment.

Yeah. The same guy people used for Arc-v posted on Twitter half an hour ago saying that they'll be done with subs within an hour so we can probably expect them by the end of the day.

In the meantime, if any Japanese-speaking tropers could give some impressions about the episode, it'd be nice.

I did a summary of the first of the first episode, if that's any help.

As far as impression goes, I still don't know how to feel about Yusaku being motivated by revenge because it goes directly against Yuma and Yuya's messages. I do like that his development is going on the direction of learning to enjoy Dueling.

I'm iffy about Ignis, but I do like that his exaggerated goofiness puts him in a reverse Yuma/Astral dynamic with Yusaku.

So far, the character I'm most invested in is Kusanagi.

An opening episode without a duel at all? That is pretty crazy.

I guess this means we're starting this series in this "Speed Duel" format:

http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Speed_Duel_(format)

Which means we might be going back to standard play formats later, when they're more viable or when other threats outside Link Summoning get re-introduced?

In terms of Yusaku, I'm quite okay with him using dueling as a tool. Sure, it's a game and should be enjoyed as such, but it is also a tool to bring about change. Yusei and 5Ds understood this well, and I'm glad we're going back to that more serious tone underlaid with humor. Yuya was a sweet kid and so was Yuma, but sometimes you need an understanding of Dueling and stakes to get things moving, even if it's a children's card game. That said, a little personality adjustment could help.

From what I gathered, they will play Speed Duels in the Data Storms, but regular Duels otherwise.

A main hero who's fighting for revenge is certainly something new for the franchise.

Lets see what the kid's got.

...Why did the Knights of Hanoi need to be attacking everyone? That just seemed pointlessly destructive.

Oh that's the style of duel we play in Duel Links.

Finally got to watching the episode. Some of the exposition was clunky and fell into As You Know, but I'm looking forward to the duel next episode, and the plot. Seems like it's about to get all .hack in here.

[up] Bishop's exposition to Akira sure did.

Naoki's felt natural because he clearly thought Yusaku didn't know.

Apparently Yusaku has to brush up his basics (or the new rules, but you get it). His first onscreen duel might get a bumpy start.
