[I glance over at Dinah.] "...y'wanna know something? When I got here to Foxfell, I...had them put my last name as Dover." [I can already feel myself heating up with embarrassment.] "I...I dunno, I thought it was a...good idea at the time, but...I dunno..."

For a moment, Higgins just sits there quietly with Amy. For all the vitriol he's getting from the citizens, from all the complaints and whatnot, it's good to have someone he knows he can count on.
He finally broaches the silence. "...we need to tell the citizens about this. At the offering tomorrow. We can't keep this under wraps any longer." He turns to look at her. "Everyone's starting to get worried, the town square is abuzz with rumors, and...I can't keep the citizens here in the dark about this. I know that's what you initially recommended, but sooner or later, the dam will burst."

I'm certainly learning that the hard way... ( I tell Eliot.) I thought I was going to be sick when I heard just what Noriaki's friends were capable of.
( Then I hear Eliot mention having borrowed Lucy's surname when prompted for one. I'm unsure of how to react to this. I'm certain Eliot meant well since he and Lucy are such good friends, but I can't help but feel a mite uncomfortable about this, though that may be my maternal instincts talking. On the other hand, though, Lucy may well end up adopting either mine or Benji's surnames once we've officially adopted her, and maybe Eliot doesn't remember whatever it was he used before?)
I see... ( I say to him after a moment.) Um...you wouldn't mind choosing a different last name, would you? I'm sorry, but I just think I would feel better if you did, even if Lucy may end up with either mine or Benji's instead after we've officially adopted her.

The Whirlipede sighed a bit and continued, "If collapsing in the fight is what's getting to you, then don't beat yourself up over it too much. Failures also tend to bring lessons with them. Easier to say than it is to accept, I know, I have a hard time accepting losses myself, but I the big guy always has something to say to at least try to make me feel better. And besides... For what it's worth, that last backstab you sicked on that Noctowl made an opening for us to come in and wreck them."

" I see... ", L'Arachel breathed out as she raised a single hand, fingers curved around her palm that faced the skies above, " Power it is, then? That is what you seek? "

Tiago is carrying some sort of lantern, wandering around, searching for something. He spots some sort of tan hair on the ground.
"Deve ser íntimo..."*
As he continues looking around, he finds a big clump when... something suddenly hits his hand, causing him to drop the lantern.
The area goes dark. Eventually, though, some sort of eyes and smile look out of the gloom and smile.
"Olá."
Tiago snaps to attention. "Você! D-deixe nossa cidade só!"*
The source of the voice chuckles. "Acho que não. Ainda estou com fome." [[labelnote:*]]I don't think so, I'm still hungry.
Tiago shudders but responds. "Não! Eu não o deixarei matar qualquer um outro!"*
The figure chuckles again.
"Grande conversa por uma pequena Timburr perdeu nos bosques." *
"Não sou-"*
He looks down and realizes... he does look like when he did as a kid.
"Ainda acha que pode me vencer?" *
The Timburr glares, still ready.
"...Minha família, eles-"*
The figure scoffs.
"Eles a salvarão? Eles não podiam salvar Izabe-" *
The figure's jaw seems to unhinge.

With the primal screech, the figure lunges at Tiago.
Tiago wakes up in a cold sweat, quickly realizing he's still a Conkeldurr.
He exhales and decides to go get a snack to calm his nerves.

[I uncover my face and glare at her...I feel oddly panicked.] "I'm already getting unstable from all this...I snapped at the group after a fight, threatened t'kill them. I turned into my friend's horrible ex trying to make him—" [Airquotes.] "—'comfortable', and I still don't know how much of an accident that was. I've gotten this...this voice before in the back of my head, and I have no clue what it...what it is...or...or...huh...huh" [Eliot...Eliot, you're hyperventilating, you need to calm down...calm down...lay down, lay down, roll over and lay down...that's it...that's it...]
[...I finally manage to calm myself down. Deep breaths, deep breaths...I close my eyes, having crawled off the wire's edge.] "...s...sorry for that, that was..." [One more deeeeep breath.] "...maybe I just need sleep right now 'n not...this."

"Oh, I wasn't planning on it, Amy!" Laughing to himself, he readjusts his tiebag and starts slithering off towards the office door. However, before he leaves, he turns back and says with conviction, "We're going to need every officer we got on this case. We'll especially need to monitor the offering...everyone crowded out there in the forest, it's an easy target for our killer to strike if someone were to get turned around. Guard the entrance, guard the path, the altar, everything. Have an officer or two out looking out for anyone who can't make it, doesn't want to go."
He stops to think for a moment before conceding against his wishes and continuing, "And we won't fine this week. Not for something like this." And with that, he turns tail and heads out.

*with their powers combined, the combined group just barely manages to push the door disc through the opening, which crashes down on the other side with enough force to cause a slight, noticeable, but harmless rumbling for anyone in the vicinity. A large plume of dust from what once used to be a carpet rises beyond the entrance, with small bits of dust wafting into the tunnel through the opening*
*as the dust settles, hardly anything can be seen of what's inside, as the pitiful light peering through the ventilation shaft and reflecting off the walls of the tunnels quickly becomes too insubstantial for even a cat to use. Beyond that is pitch blackness — the group will need some form of light that won't burn up the stale air inside*
Looks like we're in — but y'all will all have to head in without me. *Sirus says, then turns over to Sarah to tell her with a smirk* We can switch back now.
*Sarah grins, and with an excited* Woohoo! *she heads over to the hole, looks in, and proclaims* Yeah...I can't see shit in there.

( "Ohmiword, ohmiword, Eliot, calm down, CALM DOWN!!" I scream in my head as Eliot begins shouting at me. I find myself gripping my tail again.)
( Before I can really move to do anything, though, Eliot calms himself down on his own. I still feel compelled to go over to him and give him a gentle hug just to comfort him after his panic attack.)
( Now that Eliot has brought it up, however, I find myself beginning to wonder if Eliot's right. Is Benji, Lucy, and I being out here really doing us any good? Right now, I myself am mixed up in a horrific situation that could threaten to basically kill any one of us by being turned into a mindless drone...and that's not even getting into the whole thing with the Viral Aggression. Lucy was this close to one of the Pokémon who wanted to spread it. What if...what if Lucy, Benji, or even I end up with it...? Everything that Eliot and his friends have been through is already clearly taking its toll on him and who knows who else...even Goobert may be hiding fear over the situations he's been in...)
Eliot...maybe...maybe you're right... ( I say as I sit with him, still very worried about him (not to mention myself, Benji, and Lucy) after his brief panic attack.) Maybe...we shouldn't constantly travel with you like this...not when there's this much danger we're constantly getting into and when Benji and I are basically about to try to start raising a family. I'm already having second thoughts about staying behind here. I may bring this up with Benji once he and Lucy are back with us and we get through this.
( If we get through this, anyway.)
Get some rest, Eliot...I-I'm sure we'll all feel better in the morning... ( Of course, there's no telling what'll happen in the morning. I uneasily head to my own bed, shed my blouse and glasses, and climb into it. I lie awake for a bit.)

L'Arachel went over to a nearby tree and punched it, causing a fruit to fall. She picked it up, ripped the modest-sized seed from it. She held it out in her palm for Nyquil to see... Before drawing a rune onto it with her fingertips as it burst in to a very quick growth, the vines creeping out and upwards from the shell of the seed, into a strong, green form, complete with leaves unfurling from the tips already.
