Oh, hell. I definitely gotta get in on this, sasa ke?
More people are always welcome, hell encouraged.
Bumping in a desperate attempt to get this going!
Tentative interest. I'll try to think of a character to use for this...
off the shitsThat's good to hear.
Voila:
Name: Natalie Vengerberg
- Sex: F
- Race: Martian
- Age: 35
- Occupation: Engineer
- Personality: Snarky, reserved, but generally sociable. Can usually be found reading a book in her down time.
- Backstory:
- Born to reasonably wealthy parents in a town in the northern hemisphere of Mars, Natalie went on to become an engineer, and eventually ended up joining the Martian Navy. After getting some experience in being a ship’s engineer, she decided to try her hand on the private market. Mainly because the pay is better, but also because she didn’t want to be in the middle of a shooting war, which everyone assumed was going to break out soon.
She’s been on a couple of runs since, and now she’s on the Benjamin.
So why does she have a bad feeling something’s going to happen, soon?

- Appearance: Short-cut russet red hair, sharp features, storm grey eyes. Her right arm below the elbow is a high-quality, but obviously not natural, prosthetic replacement. She generally wears a jumpsuit with the sleeves rolled up just above her elbows.
- Skills:
- Mechanic
- Has a degree in engineering
- Knows a number of languages. To wit: English, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, German, French.
- Items:
- Locket
- Welding tools
- Soldering tools
- Augs: Prosthetic right arm after an industrial accident. Neural implant to make it so that she only needs to sleep ~3 hours a day.
Approved! Thank you Izshta for your signup!
Hopefully more people will start taking interest soon. I only really need 4-5 to actually run this. Might have to make one myself.

- Name: Artyom Fedorov
- Sex: Male
- Race: Earther
- Age: 38
- Occupation: Security
- Personality: Rough, direct, blunt. Artyom does not dispense with formalities or even any semblance of being nice. This doesn't mean he is unfriendly, rather it means he's just not going to ever lie to you. He's rather stoic and doesn't emote well, always stating the most likely and awful outcome.
- Backstory: Artyom was born on Earth, in Russia and served with the Russian Military when he turned 18 for 5 years, he later transferred to the UN Navy in Dropship's and served for 10 years. He's been on the Benjamin for the past 5 serving as security personnel.
- Appearance: Large, pale skin, broad frame, blue eyes with thin brown hair, stubble, a hard gaze.
- Skills:
- Trooper Training - Self Explanitory
- Zero G Maneuvering - Working on a UN Ship for Drop training
- Drop Tolerance - Artyom has a high tolerance for high G forces
- Maintenance - Give him something to fix and he will fix it. It was practically required that all UN troops know how to maintain their ships or else they die.
- Items:
- Hand Terminal
- .44 Revolver
- Augs: None
Figured I might as well add my own just to try and bump this some more. Anyone see any problems?
- Name: Yaqiratu (Just Yaqiratu) note
- Sex: F
- Race: Belter
- Age: 32
- Occupation: Legal/compliance and Accounting (Think JAG Officer not Ambulance Chaser)
- Personality: Patient, dependable, formal —Generally approachable and friendly but rather stiff in anything but professional communications. Mostly a listener in conversations, storing away notes in her head or surreptitiously scribbling them down. Would rather do things the hard way, then violate ethics. Well, she can lie but has a horrible poker face. Often found, contacting well contacts and exchanging sweet nothings. (This is not spare time: in actual spare time, will be found trying to insert herself into other peoples' works or inexplicable staring into the distance—totally not plotting to get to the highest court of the Belters or anything...)
- Backstory: Born on 951 Gaspra in the Belt of course. It only took a few months of mining to decide that joining up was a better option. They even had a spot for learning the local code and keeping the troops in line, not marching in line. Yeah, that lasted. Whenever the budget got a little tight, the big bosses would say well, maybe you can do this too. Well, getting shot at while studying inter-solar and Belter regulations made both easier. Go figure. Never really settled anywhere. Spent way too much time on Luna once defending some Belters the Earthers refused to turn over. For some reason, her superiors found it fun to send a law officer to talk to mutineers on 4 Vesta. (It probably had nothing to do with Yaqiratu sending the admiral's son to the brig.) Technically, never crewed a ship. The last time she was on a ship it was as a POW. No regrets. It's still a good three years on her resume. (Even if they still haven't paid for the legal advice). Still, alive. Not bad for someone who the brass didn't want to pay for power armor for. And now a liaison to the Benjamin. Yes...given what every instinct is screaming she will never again remind the admiral "at least she's cheap..."
- Appearance: Quite tall of course. The ascot cap makes it look all the more so. Dusky skin and rarely seen without either a tailcoat or full formal officer wear.
- Skills: JAG thing aside, is a soldier too
- Can fix minor mechanical problems
- an acceptable shot with a weapon
- rather better in a melee (what tends to happen in some parts of the belt when lawyers tell you what to do)
- Excellent at surveying (and accurately fixing heavy weapons on a target)
- Excellent stamina (mental and physical)
- Well able to do background logistics work
- Usually adept at deescalating situations
- Able investigator
- Good translator between inners and Belters
- Items:
- A really good Hand Terminal (It may be dated, but twas the one way for her old unit to contact loved ones across the Belt and Inner Space in the past. Sweet memories...).
- Martian Pistol
- Other Surveying tools
- Augs: None.
Um, so far, I'm leaving Augs and items limited—it keeps the theme in the rest of the description—but suggestions would help, especially if an un-augmented character may slow the story.

Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesOh no it's fine. I like what you've done and how it actually works for the setting!
Welcome to the game!
Ooh, an Expanse-based RP? I watched Season 1 with my friend and was hooked. Currently figuring out how we can watch Season 2 together while living in two different cities. I'll start writing up a character once I get home. Looking forward to this.
Sweet! Look forward to seeing more signups!
Yaaay, more signups!

All are significantly abnormal in a normal world... All are significantly normal in an abnormal world.Come on. Puns are fun. They are't rocket science!
Now that one was on purpose.
So think I'll give this a shot. Tell me if anything needs fixing or expanding
Name: Hyouta Shimabukuro
Gender: Male
Race: Earther
Age: 30
Occupation: Cargo Management
Personality: Sorta brash, but pretty friendly otherwise, somewhat of a dreamer
Backstory: Hyouta's life was pretty average for an Earther, but he did always want to travel in space. After training for his current position, he eventually found work on the Benjamin Resource Hauler and has been working there for a few months.
Appearance: Stout, rough but friendly face, light brown skin tone, hair tied back in a ponytail, eyepatch
Skills: He's pretty strong physically and fairly resilient as well, which comes in handy for moving heavy objects, even with tools. Combat-wise, his only real training is experience, for better or for worse. He can likely hold his own against those without proper training, less so for those with. He's got a pretty good memory for facts, being able to keep track of a decent number of things even without a list on his hand terminal. This also helps him keep tally how well the ship'd be doing on supplies. He's also got a bit of experience with electronics and can try and fix stuff if no one else is better for the job. Otherwise, he's been on Earth most of his life and is still used to things working like there, meaning that while he might know about something sudden going wrong on the ship in theory, there's a good chance he might not be the best at handling it in practice. He can also draw things reasonably well, if mainly as a hobby. Might come in handy in some way, though.
Items: Hand Terminal
Augs: None

"life is just a series of increasingly canon-eluding ao3 tags" ~ everydunsparce "Keep your hellfruit away from me, tempter" ~ also EveryMight want to expand upon skills a bit. Doesn't really give me a solid idea of what they can do.
Other than that, it's alright.
Alright! Character accepted!

Done. Once I know more about the geopolitical situation on Earth I'll update it. Also let me know if the eye is too much.
- Name: Alexander "Xander" Gwyn
- Sex: Male
- Race: Earther
- Age: 29
- Occupation: Ship's purser/Logistics Officer
- Personality: Somewhat aloof and introverted. To him, this is just another job, just another ship, so he doesn't see a particular need to establish close personal relations with anyone, though he is always outwardly courteous and friendly.
- Backstory: Born in what was once known as the United Kingdom, Xander's family moved to the United States, where he enjoyed a fairly comfortable and utterly unremarkable childhood, with the only incident of note being an incident involving a vehicle collision and explosion, which drove a shard of shrapnel into his right eye, necessitating the need for a prosthetic. He pursued a degree in business management, minoring in systems programming and architecture. After graduating, he served on several ships as ship's purser, moving around from ship to ship until he came to his current position on the Benjamin, where he's been for a year. His eventual goal is to amass enough experience that he can land a comfortable managerial position in a shipping company groundside.
- Appearance: 185cm (73in) and thin. Black hair in a crew cut. Pale skin typical of career spacers exacerbated by tendency to stay indoors. Eyes almost always partially closed, giving him a perpetually sleepy appearance. Left eye is blue, right eye is cybernetic, steel grey and glowing blue. Right eye also bisected by large scar, running from eyebrow to cheekbone. Usually wears a jumpsuit, prefers dressing as casually as he can get away with.
- Skills:
- Inventory management: Has a good head for numbers and excellent memory, both boons in a logistics position.
- Amateur pistol marksman: Knows how to maintain and fire a pistol somewhat accurately. Self-taught, partially for self-defense, mostly as a hobby.
- Computer programmer: Studied programming in university, in addition to pursuing it as a hobby.
- Items:
- Civilian model 9mm automatic pistol (for personal use. Kept in storage)
- Hand Terminal
- Augs: Cybernetic right eye. His original prosthetic was very basic in terms of features, but he replaced it with a better model on his own money. It has x4 zoom, illuminating beam (in UV and customizable colors of visible light!) controllable via hand terminal, and can display information from his hand terminal.

I don't see anything wrong. Alexander Gwyn is accepted.
Quite a few Earthers.
I was considering making him a Belter from Ceres, in the vein of the show, but the fact that almost all Belters are poor and/or criminals didn't quite work for the backstory I had planned. It was a toss-up between Earther or Martian. I could always make him a Martian if you'd like.

Nah it's fine. Just means more people ready for a plot point.
Torch Drives. They are such useful things, constantly accelerating at 1 G of gravity? Especially when you can't afford the fancy new paragravity devices. Thankfully Alan D. Sokolov got one working, if you chart the starmaps you can see him, drifting off into the great abyss after he idiotically tried to run his Fusion Drive on a homemade rocket. Wherever he is now? He's probably long dead.
Still, at least we made it out into the big empty, it's the 23rd century, 2281 and humanity has colonized the Solar system. The UNSF has elected a new Prime Minister, Mars has managed to fill at least one giant dome with all natural grown green using Martian Soil, and the Ring-World Alliance has no current plans for destabilization, everything should be fine. But it's not.
It always seems to be at it's quietest before everything goes wrong...
"Welcome to the Benjamin Resource Hauler. What's your name and occupational class? How long do you plan to serve here?"
Hello everyone and welcome, I've gotten very much into the Expanse recently and I figured I'd run a Sci-fi stlye game based on the idea of the Expanse, space opera adventure in a relatively hard setting. Ships will use realistic rocket orientation, all decks are layered like a skyscraper, water is the most valuable resource in space. I hope you all look forward to the insanity yet to come.
Signups
Signups are limited to keep the crew to a reasonable size and prevent clutter in the adventure. I may permit no more than 10 people, this is as large as it gets. So let's hope your signup is good, and that you are dedicated to this adventure.
