Kalil parallels some of the issues Jefferson is facing at Garfield, where everyone thinks he's an irredeemable criminal except for one person who might be able to pull him out. Obviously he actually did terrible things, but the parallel is still there. He might get a redemption, but at the very least I am certain that Jen reaching out to him is going to have some positive effect. Even if it's just as simple as him hesitating at the right moment.
I kinda wish they had brought in Issa to force Tobias to tell the truth, but I understand why they didn't. The Green Light Babies and Issa in particular have a terrible reputation right now, and it would feel like exploitation. Even if they had used him (if Issa had volunteered without being asked, that would have avoided most of the moral issues), Tobias would have found a way out of it and immediately gotten revenge.
Um, Tobias, Black Lightning didn't kill Syonide. Kara did. And speaking of Kara, has no one at the school noticed she's been unaccounted for?

At least we know what was in the briefcase now.

Mr Councilman, if you want to keep your anonymous donor anonymous try to avoid using such obvious clues as to who he might be. Imagine if Superman were asked if he had a girlfriend and responded with, "Let's just say she has the initials L.L., loves to write about me and has a history of being in mortal peril. I won't mention names but let's leave it at that."
I missed the last few minutes of this ep. Last I saw, Jefferson and Anissa was in Gambi's tailor shop crying over him.
What happened in the final minutes?
One Strip! One Strip!I read that just now on a different forum, and it definitely raises some questions:
Why didn't Tobias bring Tori or Syonide back from the grave, like he did with Lala?

Good question.
Do we know how he brought Lala back?
That might have something to do with it.
One Strip! One Strip! All he mentioned was that it was an expensive process.
But also, Lala didn't really come back normal, so he might not have wanted to subject his sister or Syonide to that.
In Tori's case, she already had super science stuff in her that may have complicated matters with any resurrection process.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Yeah, I saw that coming.
But the show did an excellent job of making it feel real to the audience and especially the characters.
I'm trying to think of this hive mind woman is an existing DC character, or at least based on one.
Considering her name, she might be an In Name Only version of Looker, a member of The Outsiders, of which Lightning was a charter member.
She was even a vampire more or less, and Tv Looker is basically one as well, though the way she gives powers is more fanciful.
One Strip! One Strip!Yeah I got that once they mentioned her name.
Looker has had a broad variety of powers over the years, and that plus her eventual turn into a vampire works as a base for this character which then went in it's own direction.
Same with Painkiller, really.
Anyway, since i missed some of last weeks episode, I had no idea that they lost half the kids.
Lynn was put in a real bad position, especially considering she tried to avert it and was lied to, then not even allowed to explain why it happened.
One Strip! One Strip! As stupid as that plan to kill Jefferson seemed, it does make a lot of sense that at least some people would think his power comes from his suit.
Also, Gambi's smile at a woman calling Jeff 'fine' was kinda cute.
Now that I've watched the episode myself, I kinda agree. Yeah, it's not a completely out of nowhere assumption to make.
One Strip! One Strip!(I'm always 1 episode behind due to the Netflix schedule in my country)
Man, I appreciate the anti-racism message behind the show and all, but sometimes the dialogue writing can become downright cringeworthy. "There are two things I have to do: Stay black and die." Really now?
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianIt has its moments, but overall Black Lightning handles its commentary FAR better than, say, Supergirl.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!"Stay black and die" is an old movie Shout-Out.
Maybe, but it still came off as pretty stupid in this context. Also, it was hardly the only incident.
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the show. But it really needs to learn some subtlety sometimes.

I mean, Supergirl, Flash and Legends didn't end when Andrew Kreisberg was accused of sexual harassment.
You know, it might have been a good idea to say something earlier Jefferson.
Though Gambi may not have been wrong about keeping it a secret back then.
Edit: Really? Seeing the guy who murdered your dad Jennifer? Come on!
