If it's any consolation for you, I was unable to do even a single Cobalion raid, so I don't have Shiny Cobalion.
My double steel strategy seems to be working quite well in Great League. Steelix, skarmory, and wigglytuff to round things out a bit. Usually people don't have two mons that cover a steel opposing mon.
Anyone know what's meant when people say steel is "bad offensively"? Not sure why Heavy Slam would be particularly worse than any other move that does the same damage for the same energy cost.
Probably helps that Steelix and Skarmory that have that many overlapping vulnerabilities, since Flying lets Skarmory do away with its Fighting and Ground weaknesses.
I think it's partly because Steel's move set selection in both Fast and Charged outside of Meteor Mash isn't terribly great. I think Heavy Slam's equivalent in other elements are generally not considered that good, either. I've also noticed the privilege of being Steel tends to cost a bit of stat total (won't stop me from using Registeel whenever I do actually play, though).
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiFinally got an Absol (my favourite 'mon). I Vs not amazing but good anyway.
I finally got myself a (purified) Tyranitar. Big boy waddles funny on the map.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Aside from what Kuroi said, Steel has always been "bad offensively" even in main series games.
The only type it is SE to, are Ice, Rock, and Fairy, all uncommon types. And it deals halved damage to common types like Electric, Fire, and Water.
Plus, most of the Steel-types are defensive. Higher Def than Atk stat. Which as we all know, is useless in GO most of the time (Hi Aggron). Metagross only gets by because its Atk stat is also really high.
.
a little trivia, Dragon as a type is actually even worse than Steel, the only reason Dragon is regarded as highly as it is, is because Dragons tends to have a cool appearance, and usually also have better stats than most Pokemon, since most Dragons tends to be pseudos or legends.

Well, PvP flips that on its head a bit. Def and HP are more useful there than Atk. Atk is usually more useful in PvE because Niantic puts crap in that inflate -HP (even gym defenders get double HP). When you're not beating on a huge wall who can two-shot you with its charged attacks even if you resist it, Def and HP suddenly become more important. This is especially true with Great and Ultra limitation where you can squeeze out more total raw stats by having a lower Atk, since it's worth way more CP.
Go also has Fairy types appear more commonly just because Charm is absolute bonkers for damage output.
Don't get me wrong, Steel is still rather lacklustre in sheer offense (unless, again, you're throwing around Meteor Mash), but in PvP, since defense matters more, Steel tends to win simply by outlasting stuff. As soon as you get a Ground or Fighting opponent against most Steel picks (Skarmory is safer, but has issues against stuff like A-Raichu or Melmetal), you're in trouble. Using my own Registeel as an example, I know I can just bash it out with anything that isn't SE against it, but I'm a sitting duck if Whiscash or Medicham show up. I guess Fire may also be an issue, but it seems a lot of people don't run Fire Mons due to their own crippling weaknesses (especially with Azumarill as a prominent meta pick).

Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order. So basically, it's a little that Steel movepool isn't as good as some of the other types, and also that Steel type mons tend to not have particularly high attack, so a 5 base damage STAB attack from them isn't as damaging as a 5 base damage STAB from something else?
Fire does seem like it would be good in pvp against the prevalence of Steel and Fairy, except it's just weak to too many common attack types. Have found that my skarmory can usually stick it out against Entai, for example.
Finished the Hoenn Throwback research tasks. I went into the three Throwbacks without knowing what the ultimate rewards were, so I was kind of hoping Rayquaza would be the ultimate reward for Hoenn. The Groudon I caught was pretty good though, so no complaints there.
There is still a Sinnoh throwback coming this Friday, complete with Lucario-hat Pikachu and IIRC Grass Knot Cresselia.
So many effing hatted Pikachus
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Oh Sinnoh Throwback has Cresselia? I was hoping for Dialga, but I'm not going to say no to any legendary Pokemon.
Today I learned Turtwig isn't part ground, only his evo.
...but then who pops out for the Catch Ground Type?
IIRC the reward is a Gible; to get it, Hippopotas is a good bet.
I hate it when the mon that is needed doesn't appear, but before that they give them a lot.
I had a moment where someone kicked out my mon from a gym. I went back to fight theirs and every time I was close to beating it, he would feed his mon. I had plenty of supplies and time, so I just kept fighting it until he hit his feeding limit.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order. That's always annoying.
But yeah, sucks that there is really only ONE ground type to look for and there is none to be found anywhere. Incense doesn't help either. Quite uncommon spawn.
I am convinced that spawns related to a task will dramatically drop until you complete said tasks. That being said, raids are also a good second choice if you wanna burn a pass.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Surprisingly and funnily enough, the first non-Seedot to appear from my still active incense right after the community day ended, is Hippopotas. While I still have the "catch a ground type" task.
Made some good progress on the Sinnoh Throwback research tasks today. For the "Catch an X-type Pokemon" tasks, they went like this:
- "Catch a Ground type? Hope Hippopotas show up soon." Hippopotas shows up after a little bit.
- "Catch a Ghost type? Damn it, I haven't seen any ghost types recently. Maybe I'll pop an Incense and..." Misdreavus shows up almost immediately.
- "Catch a Steel type? Dammit, I caught a Bronzor earlier. I hope one shows up...wait." Got a Metagross to appear through Battle League.
I took over a gym then went out shopping. I noticed my gym was being attacked, so I popped a gold berry. Whoever was attacking really REALLY wanted that gym, but I kept burning my gold berries whenever my mon's CP was near empty. Eight berries later, a raid started so he has to wait now
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.I got a Drifloon as soon as I used an incense, but I’m still waiting for a Steel-type…
Edit: But the same incense got me a shiny Tauros, so yay, I guess.

And I ended up unable to get a Landorus; only got 8 hours to catch it, managed a single raid, and failed to catch it. Goddamn Giratinas and Darkrais.
