The Flower of the Battlefield Blooms Once More

Entering dimensions that weren't native to oneself tended to be something most people didn't really ever do in their lifetimes. A couple would be lucky to land in another world by either chance or even more rarely, because of circumstance. An even smaller minority would be able to access more than two different realms. And so the percentages of the very minute percentages continued to dwindle even further until you got stuck with someone whose very goal in life was to enter new dimensions to fix problems plaguing their home one. Such as the newest Climber.

Years of ingrained habits and training had ensured that coming back to consciousness required very little urging. One moment you were out cold and the next, your brain went out of hibernation as though fog had dissipated underneath the rays of the sun. Though not an instantaneous action, it was a steady one and the faculties were reigned back under control- particularly hearing, touch, and smell. Sight came later as the eyes were opened ever so slightly and slowly when there was insurance that no one within arm's reach, the breathing still deep and steady so as to feign slumber.

Empyrean, Elrios, the demon realm, that weird little prison house, and now this tower. She knew that they were in wholly different dimension considering the fact that Zero was feeding her data that they weren't in any of the prior locations, the little bot's space-time coordination functions failing to get a read on their new and exotic setting in any way that matched its database.

Still, at the very least the gist of what she was expected to do here was within the same boundaries as all the other settings after she eavesdropped on the conversation between fellow new arrivals and the one person that seemed to know what it was they were here for- she was given a task of indeterminate time to accomplish and it was up to her discretion whether or not to go along with such a suggestion though it'd be in her best interests to simply accomplish the objective as quickly as possible with tangible benefits for 'playing the game' so to speak.

Judging the situation to be a nonvolatile one where violence wasn't needed, Rose gave a short sigh as she picked herself up and checked over her body to find it was untampered with before nudging at the frowning mechanical AI companion that peered this way and that with a bit of recalcitrance on its expressive face. "I see that we're way off course. Again. Wonderful, just wonderful. Just what I needed after a trek into that horrible little dimension full of the demons and the Dark El and the outright disillusionment of what was assumed to be the laws of physics. I'm never getting back home."

"Zero, please stop with your complaints. I too find this situation to be rather unfortunate but we must deal with the cards we are dealt. There's no use crying over what has already happened, only that we must continue to make the best of the situation." Holding her hand out and having her various firearms flicker through in rapid succession several times to ensure that her helper's functions were without problems, the blonde woman nodded before turning her gaze away from the conspicuous door to alight to the rather seedy fellow with the bald head loitering around.

Sharp eyed, suspicious, and with the look of someone that would sell even their own mother for a few gold coins- sadly also those who were among the best at dispensing crucial information as well. Striding forward with long legs that ate up a goodly amount of distance with every step, the stern woman decided it was time for some business.

"Vendor, what goods do you deal? And while we're at it, are you willing to dispense information as well?" Mercantilism was a powerful force, costly but of usage. Mission briefings tended to raise the success rate by a fair margin after all, and merchants tended to want repeat customers. Now was a time to make connections even if it did seem rather probable that this man seemed to be a general stereotyping for those of the black market.

Lucifer The Tempter

Staring dully at the literally sniffling umbrella with no small amount of humor in her gaze, the Lightbearer let out a small exhalation before simply shaking her head. "Nay, I never lie and say things that goes against my principles. I meant it when I said I want you to be my umbrella. There's no other replacements for me, I will only settle for the very best and you fit my qualifications to a T." Honestly speaking, if the umbrella youkai WASN'T one of the four parasols needed to unlock the next floor then the ruler of Hell would simply wonder what was wrong with the Tower's requirements.

Elsa - The Cold Doesn’t Bother Her Anyway; Just Outside Tower Door

Magic.” Elsa replied to Uzume with a smile. Her experience in the house had shown her that she had nothing to fear in showing her powers to those from other universes. “I command the forces of ice and snow. In fact, my whole outfit is made from ice.

At this point, a young woman with silver hair came up to them, asking about a missing child.

I’m sorry, but we haven’t. We just arrived. Where did you last see her?

Qrow - One Last Condition; Literally The Other Side of Town

One last condition.” Qrow said defiantly, casting a dark glance at Anabel.

While the motivations now seemed sound, there was still the problem of starting a war in the middle of an enemy camp. The plausible deniability would be even better if they weren’t alive to say otherwise.

You gotta come with us. You can hide nearby when we trigger the scroll, but I’m not taking the chance it won’t take us out too when we use it.

"Junko"-Outside the Human Village

It was only now Junko allowed herself to get out of her combat positions, as people decided it was better to try to work with the Racoons, albiet without fully trusting them, if Qrow's part of the deal was anything to go by.

So she waited until the group headed out for the mountains. Not the longest walk she's done.

Uzume-Human Village

Huzzah! Content!

"Really? That's pretty sick!" She responded to Elsa.

Before the conversation got much farther, a woman asked them if she say a Remila.

"No, sorry. Is she missing?" Uzume responded.

Guts, Outside Mugenkan - Anathema

The blonde one berated him for doing what was only natural.

The Apostle quivered and begged for unwarranted mercy.

The vampire hastily made negotiations with the blonde and by extension the Climbers, and having gotten what she needed; Yang grabbed ahold of Guts' sword. The message was clear enough, hold back or face another opponent. And Guts would've welcomed that, but at the prospect of helping speed along the completion of the Tower's current objective? He couldn't argue with that.

His sword grip lightened, he was no longer pushing down with intent to cleave Kurumi in half.

But he couldn't just let go of his hatred for Apostles, couldn't stop feeling the stream of blood flowing down his neck, having only decided not to kill this one for the simple fact that she was too ineffectual, too pathetic. And so, before he withdrew his blade, he raised his foot and thrust it into her stomach, intending for the hard kick to be the final insult.

"Give the blonde one what she wants, or I finish what I started."

He could always try killing her after she'd given the Climbers what they needed.

Kirito, Mugenkan - Escape rope

Just as I'd hoped, the Baron jumped in with the save, clocking our opponent in the face and sending her a good distance away from our escape.

I noticed that her scythe had been flung into the air and was coming back down on her head, and a pit formed in my stomach, seemingly preparing for a gruesome sight. Thankfully, it was the pole end that met her head, and she was knocked unconscious, but in one piece.

I looked to my flamboyant teammate, unable to smile reassuringly seeing as I was pretty tired out already.

"Nice one."

With that, I raised Elucidator and used the butt of its handle to smash that window open.

Knight Gundam - exiting the tower and entering Human village.

"Thank you for the kind words sir Locksmith. I will set off then, the idea of such an adventure already has me bursting with anticipation."

With a nod and somewhat flashy wave of his cape, he went for the gate that would take him to the world the group was currently in, though he paused briefly to see if the fox maiden would be following behind him or if she was still nervously stuck in place.

Regardless of whether she did or not though, he went through the gate to start his new journey and ending up inside the human village, looking around briefly to get a visual of his surroundings.

Hibiki - Whoa its cold

Hibiki hugged herself as she noticed it was cold out. She was in her summer clothes and really they weren't idea for this situation. That is until she saw the girl litterally covered in snow and completely forgot about her own worries as she rushed up to the girl fast enough to kick up a cloud of the white powder behind. "Ahh geez! You're covered in snow, you'll get a cold like that you know!" she exclaimed as she started to brush the snow of the girl. That was when she heard her request. " Little girl out on her own? In this weather? That's not good, where was the last place you saw her? I'll defintely find her and bring her home for you." Hibiki said, not even knowing this girl's name but already promising to find her little sister or her kid or something.

Sabrina closed her eyes and tried to listen to Mamizou's surface thoughts again, wanting to see if she could gleam any information about her intentions. However, this might not work since Mamizou now knows Sabrina could telepathically connect to her.

Baron, Busting Out Of This Crib

"Booyah! Dat's karma, byeatch!" Satisfied with the conclusion of his little tussle with Elly, the magnificently opulent Blacker Baron gave Kirito a big golden thumbs-up. "Ya can always count on dis Baron, Baby Guts. Now then..." He was kind enough to break the window open, so the splendid pimp duds wouldn't get ruffled too much. What a player. "Hold on and let da Pimp Express carry ya out."

Assuming Kirito would let Baron manhandle him for a moment, the opulent visage would then bust with the smaller Black Swordsman in tow through the broken window, right by the bigger Black Swordsman (and that kickass blondie who knew a good weapon when she saw one). "Gutsman, m'man! How's world of tiny magic ladies treatin' ya?!" He grinned at his friend (sentiment likely not reciprocated), surveying the situation at hand. Another of Master Kazami's flunkies, seemed, safely disabled by Yang and Guts both. "Runnin' off like dat, givin' everyone dem worries, that just ain't cool, man." Despite the words the Baron didn't seem to mind all that much, setting Kirito down on his feet as he approached the situation.

Claw, Touche

The girl in a hat gave him a stinkeye. True, the question came across as just a little insensitive. Nobody said that a pirate would be one of the better diplomats in this climbing team. It looked like the two of the small shopkeeps were trying to sell... sweet potatoes?

"Do you mean batatas? I haven't eaten these in a while, I must admit." 2B was probably not the kind to eat in the first place, but perhaps Kashira could be interested? "I don't know if we're in a condition to take a whole bushel however." Here he gestured idly at the dreaded kappa machinery behind, certainly unprepared for carrying so many sweet potatoes. "God knows if this won't explode on its own either way. What would you want for these anyway?"

"While we're at trading however, I would like to ask you for directions. We're looking for one Yukari, one Remilia Scarlet as well as one..." Here the British cat took a moment to recall weird Japanese pronunciation. "Seija Kijin. We've been told the latter can be anywhere she wants to be, but I presume that she has her own favorite spots."

Dresden in what might as well be the dark tower. To the Locksmith

There's a reason why, when we're young, our nightmares so frequently began with us waking up and immediately knowing we weren't in the warm, comfy bed we had remembered falling asleep in, but something altogether foreign to us. It's the same reason why we give our children little bears to hug and cuddle as they dream, the same reason why falling asleep on someone else's couch feels so much more uncomfortable than it does on our own, the same reason why when we fall asleep alone we instinctively feel that small but aching sense of loneliness. The same reason why, when we do wake up, we subconsciously touch that little bear, seek our lover's hand, or listen for that cool breeze of the ceiling fan.

It's because when you get down to it, there really is nothing more naive, more trusting, and more innocent than the thought that when we fall asleep, the world is going to be kind enough to not have anything happen to us when we're at our most vulnerable. As human beings, we crave that security and peace of mind. To know that as we entrust ourselves to the world's mercy, something will be there to let us know when we awake that everything is alright, that the world didn't change. That everything is still exactly as you remember it, that the hand of god didn't weave something new for us while we weren't looking.

And there are few things more terrifying in this world than waking up, with no memory or recognition of how you got there, or even any logic to explain how the hell things went so off the rails. That feeling when your trust in the world is shown to be as hollow as it really was all along.

So imagine how I must have felt waking up in the middle of what looked like a large chamber with eastern-inspired walls and architecture when I HAD been expecting my little wooden shack. To the sight and sound of a damn foxgirl and a frigging pint sized knight attending loony lectures 101.

My legs finally stopped feeling asleep by the time the old timer had finished explaining our 'circumstances'. The two of them appeared to eat it up without question. I was just a little teensy bit skeptical myself, which apparently made me the weird one here.

"Right", I drawled mostly to myself as I slowly picked myself up, shaking my limbs off. I somehow had gotten my black duster equipped on myself, as I did my combat boots. I didn't sleep with them on but here they snugly were. I was always a fan of the western look, the coat's long hems trailing far behind me in the wind as I walked. The fact it also covered just about all of my body helped, what with it being enchanted for defense and all. Beneath that I had on a standard pair of blue jeans and one of my gray T-shirts, the one with John Wayne's face on it. You'd hope this god would have been benevolent enough to teleport in some cowboy boots for me instead, but nope.

I stretched with a groan, feeling the blood begin to flow back into my arms. Being lanky had its disadvantages beyond just the dance floor, I was still rubbing some feeling back into my poor fingers. "Because I was special or entertaining enough to be chosen across an infinitely large casting call. Yup."

Don't get me wrong, the universe had a habit of finding more and more creative ways to screw with me, but when the odds are infinitely small it usually means there's a way better explanation afoot. Like, I dunno, a kidnapping into the never never. So first thing's first: exit stage right. I pulled my right hand up to the air and muttered "aparturum," IE the spell that I used to cut holes out of whatever weird magic realm someone had trapped me in here.

Well, that was the plan. You know how they say that no plan survives being punched in the face? Well neither do they survive having its first step flip you off and refuse to even get up off of the couch.

I blinked at my hand, still hovering in midair, as absolutely nothing happened. There was nothing for it to cut into.

A cold chill went down my spine. Okay, easy Harry, I thought to myself. Let's not panic just yet. It's probably just a very elaborate illusion of some kind. Or maybe it's a big tv set and I'm being casted for the part of the bumbling wizard. Yeah, right. I swallowed and closed my eyes, frowning as I built up concentration in the center of my forehead. I had one last ditch effort before I started to accept things here.

When I opened them, I opened my third eye with them. And I saw the chamber for it what it truly was: a big...chamber. The walls didn't peel apart like they would in an illusion; they held firm, as did the floors and the ceiling and the couple of doorways built quaintly into it. Energy hummed through the place, some magic evident through the architecture but not an absurd amount. But that door behind me, the one that the old man had pointed out? It was lit up like a grand arch, the very vision of the monuments like mankind had built itself in towns like St Louis. Gateways, large and powerful, filled with the feeling of travel and promise, promises to all that would brave through its legs. Within it stretched warped images that had no origin and no way to tell the meaning of, snippets of life and power and memory that thrummed like a densely contained ocean, and the longer I stared into it the more it seemed to draw me in, without an end, onward and forever.

Tearing my eyes away, I shook my head and looked elsewhere, making sure to keep the other people — uh, beings out of my sight for fear of what they might be. On the floor and across the walls, there were footprints. Hand prints. Small lingering impressions of life that covered over each other, burying each other, inescapable marks of hopeful travelers on their way through. It was the build up of countless vagrants, tiny snippets of magical traces, of faint hopes and wills of beings who had been here before us, and the Chamber thrived with it, welcoming each fragment like it was its purpose. This entire place was a hub of travel, both in spirit and in material. The Locksmith hadn't been waxing poetry, it really was a tower of names, journeys and thoughts. It inspired purpose, but in those footsteps I could feel too the fears every traveler would. A sense of the unknown, of insecurity and hesitation. Of aching, unending loneliness, the feeling of being lost with no one familiar and safe to call your companions as you faced what was ahead.

I was suddenly feeling that same loneliness myself. Yeah, this was real. And I was alone to face it.

I squeezed my eyes shut and felt the third eye close. I took a breath, and it shook. I sure as hell wasn't in Kansas anymore, and my shoes hadn't magically turned into red slippers. Yep, this one was going to take the cake on weirdness alright.

"Hells Bells. Why is it", I grit my teeth as a surge of frustration took me, "That lately it seems like my whole life could be described with the phrase 'take one step forward, get shanked and bodily tossed twenty feet back with the promise that maybe I could take another step forward if I managed to crawl my bloody way back?’" I just got done getting balls deep in with one sort-of-hostile goddess, was there a whole line up of them in the background just waiting for my scraps? Wasn't I already basically living a trial of god?

I turned with a grunt and rested my staff against the wall — thank god I still had that at least — and took another look around with my normal eyes to get my bearings. Miss sleeping beauty who had been some feet over from me when I got up had apparently gotten up and into the program already, striding with impressively steel posture over to the shady looking guy who was running a weird stand over to our right. The small knight guy had apparently gone through the mammoth doorway into wherever universe it apparently went, and the fox girl was standing nearby. Getting a move on with things, I walked up the Locksmith, trying not to scowl.

"Okay, so if this is a test from God, Smitters, then what, are you an angel? Here to spread the good word to all the good boys and girls? Job well done if so, this is the first time anyone's ever successfully gotten me come to church." Outside of business, anyway. "I wonder why more religions don't try this whole 'ambush them with clubs and throw them into a bag so you can drag them there' tactic."

Redfox exiting the tower

Ezo nodded her head in acknowledgment of what the locksmith had said, she really didn't have any further questions as she still wasn't quite sure the full extent of what was going on... Upon seeing knight gundam turn to leave though she quickly decided to follow him, without a silverfox to follow he was probably the next best thing... so she stuck close behind him as they went through the gate.

Knight Gundam - Inside human village

Looking around, Knight could tell he was in a village of some kind, that part was obvious. Taking a second to think, he realized he hadn't even asked what his fellow travelers looked like, still he figured that approaching someone would be a better option than standing around and waiting for something to happen...though he once again checked to see if the red fox was still behind him before proceeding.

"Excuse me"

He spoke as he approached the group of Uzume, Hibiki, and Elsa.

Nitori - Genbu Ravine; good heavens would you look at the time?

Sketching blueprints for a flying tank, a hovertank if one were taken with sci-fi terms, ended up being surprisingly fun. Nitori laboured over immaculate sheets of graph paper, drawing up designs and scribbling notes in the margins, hardly noticing the departure of the others.

The end result though was a thing of beauty.

Admittedly good materials weren't always easy to come by in Gensokyo, but Nitori had not let that deter her.

The thing sported a multi-tread/wheel system, that let the driver switch between the two as terrain changed. It couldn't actually fly, at least not in a controlled manner. It could lift into the air thanks to thrusters built into the base that would send it sailing through the air, but that was the extent of it. The thing could be put together using plain simple steel, it wasn't actually that heavy.

For something she cooked up on such short notice Nitori was quite pleased. Sure it could be better, and she could do better, but it would be best for this world's Nitori and the other kappa to handle that. They'd fix it and improve it, and they'd make some good bucks in the process.

With a satisfied nod she looked around, at last taking note of her surroundings.

"Hey! I'm done here. Where'd everyone go?"

Kashira Lavellan - Potato Farm - Farmland Security

Kashira decided it might be time to step in. Claw was doing his best, but these two might need to be handled delicately. He was correct in that they could hardly buy even a fraction of this dubious crop themselves, but demanding directions and then riding off and leaving them with the same problems as before wasn't something she wanted to do if she could help it. It brought to mind the bitter farmer on a road through the Exalted Plains. He lost everything because of the war and the Inquisition could offer him nothing but more fighting, more death, more destruction, more squeezing blood from him and his fellows. Just because it was to stop Corypheus didn't make it right. There has to be something we can do.

She took on a neutral expression and stepped forward after the sister who had turned to leave, raising a hand and calling out.

"Excuse me, ma'am! We meant no offense. It's hard sometimes to appreciate all the work that goes into raising a crop when you weren't there for any of it. I did a little herb-gathering when I was younger and it seemed like everyone else expected me to pull fifty Crystal Grace flowers out of my pocket the next day. It looks like you worked hard on this one." A slight frown creased her face. "So I have to ask, why hasn't it sold yet? Trouble with the buyer, or something else?" A brief pause. "My mame's Kashira, by the way." A respectful nod. "I won't make promises I can't keep, but perhaps we can help you."

Weiss Schnee—Mugenkan Master Bedroom—Schnee gets sneezed

It was so close.

She was only one step away from getting away. That faint smirk on her face was immediately replaced by her eyes being wide open as she felt a strong pull that could rival Yang’s.

The heiress only managed to turn around and look at Yuuka’s tired yet penetrating gaze, just before Yuuka’s sneezed at her. But before she could react, the youkai pulled her to the ground.

Using her scroll to warn the others wasn’t viable. Although, Qrow and Yang, with their scrolls, might be able to notice how her aura had dropped ever so slightly after Yuuka’s push.

Once Weiss stood up, she looked at the mistress of Mugenkan with squinted eyes. “That’s disgusting! It’s very rude to sneeze at people. If you’re sick, cover your nose, at least.”

The heiress began to clean the snot with a white handkerchief, slowly removing it from her clothes. “Now I will need to get new clothes.”

She looked at Yuuka while still sporting a wrinkled nose of disgust. “You must be Miss Kazami,” she said to the youkai as she could recognize her face from the aged photos in the hallway. “You’re still just a kid.” The heiress raised an eyebrow. “I thought you would be older.”

”My name is Weiss, Weiss Schnee.— I must admit I’m not too thrilled on acting like a common thief; it’s beneath me. But I assure you it was an act of desperation.” She sighed deeply. “I’m part of a group that was taken from their worlds against our wills. These umbrellas are the only way we will be able to to get back home that’s why they are valuable to us. If there is a way we could compensate you for them, let me know. But you must understand, we can’t leave them without them. ”

Re: All Players (Tanuki Tutorial)
Now, we could sit down and write this out as if Mamizou was laying this all down, but let's keep it as clear as possible.

Standing now in front of an almost featureless background, with only a repeating pastel pattern of some highly stylized raccoons that seemed to go on for infinity and past the invisible floor, Mamizou stood in front of a blackboard with one of those extendo-stick things.

"Hello, you all can call me Mamizou Futatsuiwa, and now we're at the part of the challenge called Tanuki Tutorial."

"Tanuki Tutorial?" Yoshika looked up at the older woman, still covered in snow from the scene six spots down. "What's that?"

"Its the non-canon part where you and I will sit down these guys and explain what's about to happen in the most permanent format possible: in a post dedicated solely to it. You're here because you ask dumb questions." Mamizou slapped her pointer down on a crudely drawn portrait of the jiangshi, with 'DUMB AS SHIT' written next to it. "Got it?"

"Got it," Yoshika said happily.

"Now, it's very simple, what we're going to do. We've got time, sure, but just how long are you all really gonna be going at this? You've got one umbrella in the bag, one in the hand, one you have all the pieces to get right now, and one just out of reach. So!" She pointed at a big diagram consisting of two circles, with "Tanuki Tactics" written above them. "We'll kill two birds with one stone!"

"I love killing birds," Yoshika exclaimed!

"I do too. Now, here's the important part: To get everyone moving, we'll have the group split up a little! Team A will go up the treacherous Youkai Mountain, teeming with baddies, to help me out. Team B will be going to with a smaller team to mess around and try their hands at gettin' another umbrella at a place of your choosing! We'll make it clear: they're probably with Yukari and Remilia. That should be obvious by now."

"But, how do we decide who's going where?" Yoshika asked, now wearing a dunce cap.

"That'll be harder than any trial the Climbers have ever faced. You all, just choose one team! Tell someone about it! If you can't choose one, that's your problem. Or, you can just abandon that and go do something else if you're not feeling like that's your thing. It's up to you! So, any last questions, my dead little friend?"

"Where are we?"

"And that's all the words we have left! Everyone, thank you for what precious li'l time you got and hope you'll log back in next time for Tanuki Tutorials. Back to your regularly programmed existence in the Tower."

Outside Human Village
"...Pretty dangerous, I gotta admit," Mamizou replied to Qrow, "Just having me up there'll be a breach of treaty...but, hey, you're riskin' yourselves, right? It's fair." She extended a hand towards the man. "Deal. I'll even make it easier for you to sneak in."

Sabrina could just as easily look into Mamizou's mind, and for once, it actually seemed fine. If there was any treachery on her part, it wasn't with this plan of hers. She seemed genuinely invested in it succeeding, and though she wasn't too concerned with these Climbers' safety, she wasn't thinking this was a suicide mission or anything. Just difficult.

Mamizou was also thinking "This guy ain't half-bad lookin'," but that was unimportant.

Inside Human Village - Lost Child Collection Center
"That's the thing," the silver-haired lady said to Hibiki, "I saw her last at home, but she tends to...go out and about sometimes. I heard that she caused a big commotion with some people from out-of-town in this spot, so here I am."

She looked a little confused at many things, probably. There were strangely dressed women and little robots who were talking of bizarre things, of course. But, at least she was being polite and not mentioning it.

Outside of Mugenkan
Finally freed from the prospect of becoming half the girl she used to be, Kurumi celebrated with a hard oof as she was violently jabbed in the stomach. The wind knocked out of her, she crumpled to her knees and grasped at her belly, wincing in pain.

If this guy wasn't so fast with this ridiculous sword, she'd have totally beheaded him for that on the spot. Totally.

It took a little bit, but with the threat of even more kicks to the Guts and the giant black man who just walked through the front door with some really big shoes, she recovered fast enough. "...Okay, then. What do you want from me?"

Mugenkan Master Bedroom
Of all the things a thief would complain about, her being sick was not what Yuuka was prepared for. She honestly seemed kind of concerned when Weiss pointed out her impropriety, and after sucking back up a stray strand of snot, she said "Forgive me, then...I'm not exactly used to being sick, you see." The master of the house pulled the luxurious down blanket she was wrapped in to her face, to wipe it clean.

"Never once in my life before now. But you must be mistaken, on two things. One, surely you can wash your outfit. Two...you ha-a-aaaaaaaaaa"

This time she was prepared, and buried her face deep into her bed to shield the filthy thief that had crept into her bedroom from further contamination. There was a muffled sneeze, and then she wearily looked back up.

"...you have no right to think of me like a child, human. Even if you were a youkai, I look, and am, much older than you," she finished saying.

As she shifted herself around in bed, trying to get into a position mirroring the one that the blanket-wrapped hunchback Reimu was taking some miles away, she looked at Weiss through narrowed eyes. "The only reason thieves do as they do is because of desperation, or enjoyment. It doesn't excuse it, however. You could have decided to talk to me instead of breaking into my home...but, whatever. You can have two of those, but the white one is mine."

Yes, the white one with a green handle that Weiss was holding. It looked especially dainty.

"There is nothing else like it. Make due with the two of them."

Minoriko Potato Farm - Desolace
"Yes, yes, batatas," Aki said, nodding happily as she wondered what the hell he just said. "You don't have to buy the whole bushel, even, just...just buy a few! We can put them in a sack, and they're just scrumptious when you roast them, so...please, buy some."

That desperation was put aside for a moment, because Kashira's sudden sympathy was just the thing she needed. Even if it was a tired smile, smile she did! "Thank you! The youkai around here hardly care about farming, so it's good to see at least one of them actually cares. We figure that nobody's buying them because everyone figures that Gods of Autumn like ourselves just...leave, or something, in the winter. It's annoying, but...we've dealt with it for a while now."

And, back to Claw, it was time for a good list of places, people, and problems. According to her,

  • Yukari is...somewhere, she guessed. There's probably people she knows that could get her in touch with you, but it'd be kind of a hard trip to get there.
  • Remilia was down the road, take a left, go on for about a mile, turn left again when you see that clock tower of the SDM sticking out above the trees. Or, you know, just follow the roadsigns that point to it.
  • Seija was actually just there last night, she was pretty sure. She woke up and saw a...well, she saw something rude drawn into the snow of her fields. Rude and big. One of the tengu said that she saw her heading down south, near where the Scarlet Devil Mansion was, actually.

Genbu Ravine
"Oh," one of the kappa said, one that Nitori would recognize as being an archivist back home, "the...our you gave them one of our experimental motorbikes and gave them help with a map. All I know is, they're heading south. You'll probably see them flying over, unless they, like, circled the mountain or something."

This archivist had a strange new thing, the plastic straw, that she sucked from as a form of punctuation. "You want me to hand that off to yourself?"

Forest Path
It was slow, it was gradual, it was many things. Most of all, the way that Kogasa looked at Lucifer, with a great, big smile, was heartwarming.

"...You really are a...that's the first time anyone's said that to me for as long as I've been around," she said, with little tears in her eyes. Even the actual umbrella part of her seemed to be getting misty-eyed, though it tried to turn away from Luce. "That's...that's something I can do. There'll be no better umbrella than me."

Yoshika threw a snowball at the lot of them, but it was so lop-sided and poorly thrown that it hit a tree about 5 feet to their left.

The Tower
"I am no angel. If I were to live my life as I pleased, I'd be no less mortal than you are," the Locksmith said to Mr. Dresden. "I am forced into this continuous existence not because I gave up, or succeeded, but because I tried to circumvent it all completely. To simply unlock the doors of the Tower...hence, why I am the Locksmith. I succeeded at that..."

A brief flash of terror rose up in his face, his eyes widened, and in a hushed tone he said "But...this existence is a blessing, compared to some of the others who shared my crime."

"The Ruler of the Tower is a God, but I do not worship him. He is divine, but there is nothing majestic about him, in my eyes. We are all just here to climb, as he demands."

Now, over in his own little den of a corner, Patches was still squatting like a champ. He looked up at Rose with a smile, and extended his arms over the cloth covered with wares in front of him. "A little bit of everything, luv! Weapons, armors, bits-and-pieces from here-and-there. Just ask and I'll check right quick if I've got something else lyin' around. Especially information." He briefly rubbed his bald, gleaming head. "I've got plenty up 'ere, in storage."

Kashira Lavellan - Team B - Potato Farm - The Verchiel March

Autumn Gods? Are they like spirits, then, some aspect of the mind and heart but for the seasons here? How does...? Kashira mentally shook herself out of the pondering she was drifting into. Well, anyway, at least the situation isn't as bad as I'd feared. If they have indeed faced this sort of thing before, hopefully, they should be able to handle it.

She offered a small, rueful shrug to the merchant.

"Well, unfortunately, I don't think we'll be around long enough to try and change that, even if we could. Your world is strange to us and I fear we'd do more harm than good."

The directions given made matters somewhat simpler as well.

Sounds as though Seija and Remilia are fairly close by. It might be just as well, I wasn't too eager to start experimenting with the Anchor on that barrier anyway. Creators know what would have happened. And Yukari is an unknown factor. Remilia...well, I wouldn't say we can deal with her, but we know what we're up against, at least.

"Thanks for the help," she said, inclining her head. "As I'm sure you might guess, we don't have the coin or the space to buy too much, but I can spare a few coppers for one of your potatoes. Travel rations can wear on you after a while. And then, we really should be on our way. Good luck to you."

While digging through her purse for the requisite coins, she spoke aside to Claw.

"What do you think, then? I'd say we should make for Remilia's estate. It's closest and we might catch Seija there too, if she's still in the area."

Dave, Team A

Dave thought about the options he had. On one hand, he could try to get an umbrella from a weird youkai that didn't seem to have any respect for humans. On the other hand, he could go on some sneaking mission on behalf of some weird Youkai who didn't have any respect for humans. With that in mind, he decided to go with the plan that was more likely to involve some action. If he had to do something, it might as well be something interesting.

"Alright. I'll be going with Team A, if anyone wants to join me."

Bringing an Umbrella Girl Home

Lucifer was known for doing various bad things over the course of her long life, her whims as mercurial as the wind itself and her temper as sudden as striking lightning. Still, despite her negative qualities it couldn't be disputed that there were positive ones as well.

Back in the day when she still lived in the kingdom of Heaven, the woman had been protective and caring to her subordinates in an almost motherly way. It was one particular mission that ended up with her being the only survivor that caused her heart to fracture and grow rigid, ending up with the warm Lightbringer becoming the Rebel that she was now. To the innocent children, there was nothing to fear from the Lord of the Fallen. One could argue that the angel was a paradoxical creature but it was simply who she was.

In another vein, Lucifer was also sympathetic to those that were shunned by others to no fault of their own as well as approving of those with a strong will to keep going. A youkai formed from the soul of an umbrella that simply wanted to be of use was something that the Morningstar simply couldn't be cold to.

"Verily, you shall find the succor you seek with me. Here is to a wonderful and long working relationship." Holding out a hand towards Kogasa, the Monster gave a smile that radiated angelic warmth. And probably simply begin flying towards portal to come back to the Tower if the youkai was willing to be dragged along after attempting to drop off Yoshika if she wasn't being particularly cheeky.

The Tower, Getting Information

Taking a quick glance at the wares and finding them more a mishmash of underworld Arad fare that would work for the rough and tumble adventurers wielding cold weapons, the tall woman inwardly sighed at the lack of proper equipment before turning her schooled face up to regard the bald man that had all the subtlety of a snake oil salesman (she was actually surprised there was no such ware there).

"Information it shall be then. Tell me, what manner of payment would you prefer? I've got gold coins, mana laden crystals, and monster parts in the vein of bones, shells, and leathers should you be interested in those. As for information... What sort of challenges are done and over with? What is the current mission? Are there any notable acquaintances among the fellow... Climbers to look out for?"

Fastidious and cautious was a proper Minerva, to be prepared for anything and everything. Knowing was half the battle and formulating proper responses and counters to the knowledge was the second half. Zero meanwhile simply floated around the place to continue eyeballing the surroundings with a disgruntled grimace on its rounded face, the AI still somewhat bitter about the whole experience.

Wrex, Human Village

Wrex stayed silent and his sight didn't move from Mamizou as he took a moment to quickly consider the options before his body language loosed up, showing that he no longer felt that fighting was going to happen. "Coming along is more than what I got from most employers during any mercenary job I've been on so can't really say we're getting a bad deal," he said to the tankui boss before moving next to Dave and announced to the Climbers the plan of, "Anyone that's doing the job get over here. Everyone else make a second group. I want to see this done orderly and quickly," and then took a moment to make some notes about his only squad member at the moment.

Unarmored and no firearms but still sure enough about his chances to throw himself at a mob of charging monsters. Wrex would have to consider the non-standard tactics and abilities in the sqaud when he issued orders so because of that he aimed some minorly skeptical inquiry forward Dave, "So what can you do kid? Don't know many who would prefer a sword over a gun where I come from. Most wouldn't wear only a shirt to a fight either."

Claw, Potato Sale

...perhaps it was better to leave talking to Kashira, after all. Still, a part of his pride felt seriously tarnished. Grumbling, he stepped back to let her handle the situation, arms folded. "...Nathaniel Claw." He threw in his own introduction. The potato farmers began to explain the circumstances.

It made sense. Most youkai around here would probably be able to procure a food of better quality whenever they needed to, and the human village likely had their own crops. Even if they didn't, something told him that they wouldn't buy from these two. "Well, do you leave? I'm sure someone wouldn't mind a bushel of potatoes in the winter should hunger look them in the eye." Claw commented idly from the side.

Then, it was time for their directions. Yukari seemed not worth the effort at the moment, the road to Remilia's mansion was planned out and Seija... apparently was in that same direction, somewhere. Talk about killing two birds with one stone. "Right. How does she feel about surprise guests? I hope she's not the type to sic her housestaff at us..." He said, knowing full well that she would do that. Still, try and be optimistic.

Kashira asked him for opinion on their next destination. "That works for me." He replied succintly, pulling out a coin from his own pouch, offering it to the potato farmgirl. An unusual choice for both heads and tails, but its percentage content of the gold could not be questioned. "Many thanks for your help, misses."

Baron, Outside Yuukahaus

"We lookin' for yo Master's umbrellas, dig? Dat's all we need. Long story, don't wanna bore ya." He grinned in response to the slightly winded housekeeper. "We wanted to do it all prim an' proper, ya see, but we're kind of in a hurry."

Weiss sure was taking her sweet time. "Ya doin' okay dere, Ice Queen? Need da hand or sumthin'?"

Qrow - Don't Have To Be A Mind-Reader; Outside Human Village

"Well, that sounds pretty damn fine to me." Qrow shook the hand of his fellow shape-shifter, giving her a rogueish grin to boot. Now that she was on their side, he could admit she was attractive, in a "meek librarian" sort of way. Though she seemed far from meek in personality.

"And I'll be coming up the mountain. I'm used to doing favours like this for a friend back home."

He didn't bother to stand off into a group: he knew where he was going.

Elsa - Why Isn't Looking For The Lost Child an Option?; Just Outside Tower

"Yes, we are." Elsa replied to the... sentient suit of armour(?), before quickly turning back to the pressing matter at hand.

"Unfortunately, we're new here. We know nothing about our fellows yet. But we do know that they have to come back through here, so waiting for them to ask about her is probably the best course of action."

This didn't sit well with Elsa. Who knows where this child could be, what could be happening to her? The Locksmith had seemed certain that their fellows had matters in hand already, would she and her fellow newcomers really make much of a difference?

"Can you think of anywhere else she may have gone? If this disturbance upset her, where would she go?"

Dave, Human Village

"Nobody I know really fights with armor," Dave replied. "We were all basically nigh immortal demigods with cosmic powers - kind of a weird story, that - so we didn't need guns and kevlar. Sure, those would really come in handy now that I'm back to just being a normal guy again, but not much I can do about it now. Plus, it's not like I'm totally defenseless. I've still got super speed, and I can do some timey-wimey shit where I freeze people in place or pull versions of myself from the past to fight with me, so there's that."

Weiss—Mugenkan Master Bedroom— Worst thief ever

“I am not a youkai. —Weiss raised an eyebrow as she kept staring at Yuuka’s youthful face —If you’re as old as you say, you must’ve felt sick before.” She narrowed her eyes at her. “You look awful. Are you even taking medicine?“

Then when the youkai mentioned the evils of stealing, the heiress crossed her arms pressing her lips at the side while looking at the ground.

“We couldn’t. Your servant, Elly, wanted us to wait until you came to us, and judging by how you feel, that wouldn’t had happened any time soon.”

When the mistress of mugenkan pointed at the white umbrella with the white green handle Weiss picked it up from the ground, staring at it a few seconds. Of course it wouldn’t be that easy.

“I must say you have an excellent taste with those flowers, and this umbrella does have a beautiful design. But, there must be something you want more. Maybe we could do you a favor in exchange for it? ”

Then her scroll vibrated getting a message from the baron.

“I’ll talk with my team if you don’t mind,” She told Yuuka as she took out her scroll to text message her team.

“There was a complication. Yuuka caught me. She doesn’t want to give the umbrella up, but I’m trying to change her mind. Any ideas?

Yang, there should be an open window visible on the outside. Think you can come?

Anabel - Outskirts

"Yes, I find myself agreeing with Miss Sabrina, standing around here won't do us much good." Anabel waved over at Lucario, and the pokemon came close to her to hold the scroll up triumphantly.

Yang - Outside Mugenkan

"Okay, good! Kind of. See? We can all just be cool and-" her arm vibrated again, slightly, and she whipped out her scroll in an instant to take note of the messages she had received.

Barely even taking a moment to think, she fired off her shotguns at the ground to launch herself back to the side of the house she had originally come from, firing off again and rocketing through the window she opened earlier and running down the hallways in the direction she had seen Weiss go.

Yang - Inside Mugenkan

"Alright Weiss I'm here!" Yang shouted as she charged into the room. An unoccupied bathroom.

Blinking, she backtracked and took a few steps away from the door. Okay, that was a dead end. The next door was probably fine.

"Alright Weiss I'm here!" Yang shouted as she charged into the room. This time it was the room Weiss and Yuuka were actually in. "What's up? Wait... huh?"

When Weiss had said "caught" in her message she figured like, held in a jail cell and only able to message her because these people hadn't confiscated her scroll because they didn't seem to understand that any high technology beyond the two-furrow plow existed.

Instead she was just... hanging out with some girl?

"What happened to your shirt?"
