Or maybe the Rat King could be the Big Bad and they could weave his backstory into either the lab or the Upside Down. It might come across as Vecna Jr, but it could also help with the world-building.

Apparently there is a stranger things stage play.

It's in previews in London at the moment. I've got a ticket for January.

So...from what I heard...

It retcons Henry's whole character, he is an innocent victim who was being possessed by the flayer(Actually a separate entity) the whole time.

Well, that sounds incredibly disappointing. The Complete Monster thread is gonna have a field day once knowledge the play's contents become general/public knowledge.

Uh we took it calmly. Appreciate that people were mature abiut the reveal.

Well, that was certainly surprising.

I too appreciate that we acted better than Villains and Pure Evil wiki.

My issue with that reveal is that we saw in season two that the mind flayer is really bad at possessing people in a convincingly human way; as Will it couldn't even name Will's friends, and by the end it it was just screaming and thrashing.

Perhaps that's an argument towards the twist if you consider it to be character development. But then there's a mechanical issue in how The Mind Flayer even got to Henry prior to El breaking through to the upsidedown.
