Salem's pretty good if you approach it as the genre it is. It's a cosmic horror story.
Avatar SourceGoing through Salem, huh? Good luck, hope you have fun.
The manga might also be a decent companion peace since it's pretty good at visualising everything. I had a better time reading that mostly because I had an easier time disconnecting myself from the whole thing as well as some minor helpful expansions
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysI ended up skipping the plays during Salem since I just wanted all the story stuff caught up. Speaking of which, since I finally lucked past the godawful Arjuna fight, I should actually finish LB 4 now.
My son is the cutest!
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysI skipped everything in Salem because I was doing Eo R just to unlock the true names. I was planning to go back and read them all in order after clearing them but never got around to doing it.
Meanwhile, I haven't finished EoR because I do it for the reading, so still no true names for anyone from Shimosa.
Avatar SourceSpeaking of which. I'm currently working on the free quests of Shimousa right now (as a result of certain master missions)
I'm mixed on Salem.
i think the first two-thirds is an incredibly strong horror mystery as we try and piece everything together, and things get more and more tense as we try to figure out who to trust and struggle (and sometimes fail) to earn the trust of the townspeople.
i think the last third completely breaks the tone and sense of immersion of the story and frankly ends up kind of ridiculous
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeI think Salem would have worked better if it was divided in parts, though I will also note that as the most impactful aspect of that story was not so much the Cosmic Horror stuff but rather how dreadful was puritan society.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.aha! found my original post on it. i'm surprised i remembered when i originally posted about it.
salem DID do an amazing job making me care about abby and circe, though.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeNezha was the big star of Salem for me, but Circe was a pretty close second.
I mean, Salem does do the thing that also happens in Cosmic Horror: the eldritch thing from outside reality (or the ocean, or) is finding its way in through the small town, and you need to stop it.
It's less like you beat the eldritch deity itself, you just hit Abby until she stops being a doorway for it.
If it got this far in a normal cosmic horror story, we'd probably be totally boned, but hey, concession to the game it's in.

Avatar SourceNezha did shine in Salem for me, as well.
The story had some good moments, especially in the build up, but was nothing special.
Yeah, Nezha was pretty good and at least the plays work as a way to keep things from being too bleak.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.Salem was overall okay for me but if I had to pick what stood out to me the most, I'd pick these: the plays, Abby and Lavinia, Sanson, Robin, Mata Hari's trial and flashback. The rest was fine, nothing outstandingly good or outsandingly bad from what I remember. They did ggod enough of a job keeping me invested in what was going on but didn't reach the emotional heights of Camelot or Solomon nor was it as fun as Yuga Kshetra imo.
Nezha's role in Salem unfortunately ended up being her most significant story role. Though we at least got a bit of characterisation.
The plays were the best part for a lot of people but I just found them kind of long. Which reminds me of the random one that unlocked at the end of the story
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysLol, Ereshkigal rate up to coincide with FGO Carnival.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.As is tradition, I have rolled and gotten no Ereshkigal.
I have literally rolled on every Ereshkigal banner to date and gotten nothing but spooks. Game, if you're going to give me spooks how about giving me say, Elizabeth?

Poor Ereh- Wait, she's actually getting a new proper banner? Thinking about it, isn't the whole thing on FGC about Eresh feeling neglected?
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru! The way I didn't know who was in that CE at first until I looked at the birds. My brain registered Rin first because of Ishtar. I love Mori's art but the same face can get a bit hard
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysThe new CE is meant to be a "replacement" to Verdant Sound of Destruction (I say "replacement" since it functions as ATK-focuses Imaginary Around) so it should obviously be Illya.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!I know it's Illya, thanks to birds and white hair. I just couldn't recognise her at all at first since I looked at her face initially and my mental recognition cycled through "Rin? Fillia? NO WAIT, ILLYA!!!?"

Salem is quite long despite having less nodes compared to the other epic or remnants so good luck.
I didn't really enjoy it but despite all my Meteo memeing I didn't dislike it either. I kind of want to give a general spoiler free expectations/impressions but honestly I'm not really the best person for that (and I can't really remember much about Salem outside of hating the NP Cs) so someone who actually enjoyed Salem should probably do that.
