Cat costume is perfect, not gonna lie.

...

Wait, so the Micheal Jackson lookalike and that Izo guy were bad guys who fought Shinsengumi? What a twist!

Uh, calling the Shinsengumi good guys is a bit of a stretch, given that they were essentially a military police force. Meanwhile Ryoma was instrumental in the Meiji Restoration IIRC and a strong supporter of democracy, of all things.

Tamocat looks like she came out of the 50s or 40s. All she need is skates.[lol]

Edit; Oh, she does have skates. I didn't notice before since i just woke up when i saw the pic.

The Shinsengumi were essentially an armed gang who terrorized merchants and assassinated people, yeah.

It's been fun.

I've got to commend it to anime if you really end up thinking anyone in that conflict is a good person!

I though they were valiant protectors of peace that fought against vile insurgents.

I love Tama Cat's costume, so great.

Now give Tamamo one of her myriad costumes instead of doubling up on someone else, DW.

Even as a young babe who pursued Heisuke in hakuoki I had the vague feeling of "Wow, are these guys really good people". Regardless the slow but kind of tragic end of their organization (and very aesthetic uniforms) make them easy romanticization fodder since they didn't do something like commit mass genocide to make them more side eyeable

Just because one side was bad doesn’t automatically make the other side good.

Shinsengumi can't be all bad if they are beloved national symbol, right?

I'm not sure why what happened a minimum of 30 years down the line in any way has a bearing on the Shinsengumi. Also, they were just a random bunch in Kyoto whose most notable action before the Boshin War was "kill their own former boss".

And by the time the Boshin War started, the Shogunate had already officially ceded power to the Emperor. There was no insurgency, it was a political struggle about where the centre of power should be.

[up] It just means they're fun to romanticise.

Are you saying people would romanticize unsavory characters?

The Shinsengumi get a good deal in Fate GO almost entirely because Okita is such a sweet bean in-game.

The idea that somehow the Shinsengumi were a tragic force for good who wanted to forestall the tyranny of Imperial Japan sixty years in the future is deeply incorrect. They were pro-military dictatorship, they just wanted to be sure that it was the samurai who were on top.

To put it into contemporary terms, they were a right-wing militia granted official recognition by the government.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a military outfit that isn't ridiculously fashionable.

Nobody's ever accused authoritarians of being poorly dressed (medal overload aside).
