Alternatively, go back in time and do a movie about Indy's grandfather having adventures in the 19th Century. Like, maybe they're known as "Nevada Jones".

Why is everyone convinced that this film will be a huge success at the box office? Because of the Top Gun Maverick effect? 15 years ago with Crystal Skull several people were already saying that Ford was too old for the part, and a lot of people outright hated the movie (not me though). What is going be so different this time? It's because there are Nazis again instead of Commies? It's because there are no aliens (sorry, "interdimensional beings") in sight? Personally I have no real hype for the film. Star Wars already burned me too many times, and I'm tired of always hearing people complaining about nostalgia and there not being any original things anymore while giving money to the same tired old franchises.

"Effective Altruism" is just another bunch of horsesh*t.

[up][up] Because we are optimistic. Also wasn't Crystal Skull successful at the box office. Calling doom before something even releases is just odd in my opinion. Though I do agree with you on the nostalgia thing.

Yes, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a box-office success. It made over $790 million.

It's the same thing as with huge cross-over events in comics. People keep saying they hate them and are tired of them, but then they keep shelling out cash for them. People keep saying they're tired of the same-old franchises, but they keep buying tickets to go see them. When people are really tired of them, they'll stop spending money on them.

Movie production companies exist to make money, not to further anyone's artistic or creative goals, regardless of what anyone says. They're continually going to make whatever films they feel have the best chance of making money, and tried-and-true franchises are a pretty good bet for them.

Yeah, this is such an iconic franchise, people are going to see the next movie just to see what it's like.

[up][up] How much overlap is there between the people complaining and the people watching?

I suspect plenty of the complainers went to watch Crystal Skull anyway.

Interesting update: the whole series is coming to Disney Plus, including the Young Indy series. Was beginning to wonder when Paramount would accept an offer given the Spider-Man films are available there now too.

The question will be whether the Harrison Ford episode will be available as the iTunes release noticeably lacks it.

Will it be the original version of the episodes or the re-edits that took out Old Indy?

There was re edit of the series that removed the old Indy segments, this is the one used for DVD and streaming

'Cause what George Lucas production is without a re-edit?

I think it was because Lucas wanted to repackage the episodes by editing them together into features for home video. And from what I've heard, people weren't overly fond of the 90-year-old Indy bookends.

First reviews of Dial of Destiny are appearing online. Seems pretty mixed so far, though even the more positive seem to be saying that this is and definitely should remain the official "ending" for Indy.

I didn't mind Old Indy.

There's a kind of sadness that Indy lived to be 90 years old and saw the world pass him by.

Less magical, less terrifying.

He doesn't worry about Nazis because he won.
