Sony will be at E3 2020. Next year is a big year for them (and Microsoft) with the upcomign new consoles, and they'll want to be everywhere, especially at what will still be the biggest gaming event in North America.

The big question is How much? How much will they put into E3 or will they find a place nearby like Microsoft and EA have done to put there stuff in?

[up] Well, that post may have aged poorly as we have a possible rumor of Sony announcing they're skipping E3 again this year later today.

Oh for god's sake. Sony will be PRESENT at E3.

What they'll skip is the stage show.

Just like Nintendo has been at E3 every year I've been alive but replaced their stage shows with Nintendo Directs.

EDIT: Wait, I forgot that E3 managed to leak the personal info of pretty much every journalist who attended last year. I could see Sony using that as justification to pull out entirely. It'd be weird given how much industry networking and planning is supposed to happen behind closed doors though.

If that’s the reason, I’m trying to decide if it’s hypocritical, or just ironic.

Realistically though, that’s not the reason. I can practically guarantee that just like Nintendo with Directs, Sony has found that State of Play presentations interspersed throughout the year is a more effective way of delivering their content, and one they have more control over.

But that's not what E3's about, E3 is an industry trade show first and foremost. It's a place for developers to show off their products to journalists and the platform holders to give developers heads up about new hardware and talk about exclusives or marketing deals.

What we the fans think of as E3 are the stage shows, which Nintendo opted out of years ago with Nintendo Direct and Sony is now following suit with State of Play, and that's a very small part of the actual event. I'm all for the big 3 dropping those, but I can't see Sony pulling out of the trade show.

When E3 dies in a few years I hope Nintendo crashes at the Microsoft Theater for a bit. You know, since they're buddies and all.

E3 2020: A Sneak Peak At The Year Ahead

We’d like to cut right to the chase.

We’ve listened to the feedback of our media partners, attendees and the industry at large. We are committed to keeping E3 at the level you’ve come to expect.

You’ll be happy to know that we’re not producing E3 2020 in a vacuum. For E3 2020, we’re collaborating with industry insiders and new creative partners, including the tastemakers at iam8bit.com, to reinvigorate the show and, frankly, to shake things up.

We are well down the path on the development and production of a large, super fun floor experience that celebrates gaming culture in exciting new ways.

Without revealing too much right now, here’s a taste.

We will be showcasing E3 to the world through new streaming and digital programming while creating gatherings on the show floor that let people do what they love the most… play and celebrate games.

We’ll have surprise guests, amazing stage experiences, access to insiders and experiential zones that delight the senses. It will be incredibly inclusive, celebrating all aspects of our industry.

Over the next few weeks – and continuing all the way to E3 – we will be revealing more details and will continue to listen and learn. In fact, if you have an idea that you’d like to see come to life at E3, please send it to suggestions@e3expo.com, and we’ll see if we can make it happen. No idea is too large or too small; we want to hear from you.

You should also know that we’ve upgraded our media registration process, which received a lot of attention this past summer. Earning back your trust and support is our top priority.

That’s why we rebuilt the E3 website with enhanced and layered security measures developed by an outside cybersecurity firm. This included updating our data management processes, including the handling of personally identifiable information, and we will no longer store that data on our site. We have also changed our registration practices and will collect the minimum information necessary to complete your registration.

E3 2020 will be a new and revitalized experience for everyone – the many exhibitors committed to the show, the members of the media who have supported us for so many years, and the fans and community that are the heart and soul of video games.

Finally, in case you’re wondering, E3 registration will start on February 15th. We’ll have more information on the process in the coming days.

We’ve listened to the feedback of our media partners, attendees and the industry at large.

"We're still not quite sure why you dislike having your personal information leaked to the public, but you have been very vocal about it, so we'll try our best to only leak your information privately this time around."

You’ll be happy to know that we’re not producing E3 2020 in a vacuum.

"We generally feel they taste better when kept in a sealed container, but felt like experimenting this time around."

That’s why we rebuilt the E3 website with enhanced and layered security measures developed by an outside cybersecurity firm.

"Which for some reason we felt no need to have before, despite managing that information for years and years and having more of it with each passing E3."

Geoff Knightley will not be attending E3 and will obviously not be producing E3 Colosseum.

Sorry, was going for speed over accuracy and my phone suggestion list looked accurate enough at glance, even though I had the name in the link...

E3 ended up leaking its 2020 website a day early.

E3's 2020 press release:

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) today announced that registration for E3 2020: EVERYONE PLAYS will open February 15 at 11:00 AM EST, exclusively at www.E 3 Expo.com. The show returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 9-11, with an industry day on June 9, followed by two days open to all badge holders.

E3, the world’s premier event for computer and video games and related products, has been reimagined to include new stage experiences, experiential zones, and live events to showcase new titles and innovations in video games and to celebrate video game culture.

E3 2020 will feature special guest gamers, celebrities, and digital programming on the show floor while connecting with global audiences through extended livestreaming. A highlight will be the debut of an all-new floor experience that will be streamed to bring exclusive conversations with leading industry innovators and creators to attendees and fans worldwide.

“We are working to make E3 2020 a more interactive and immersive experience with a show floor that will amplify our exhibitors, their innovations, and announcements,” said Stanley Pierre-Louis, President and CEO of the ESA. “The E3 experience is an industry showcase like no other. It connects media, brands, innovators, and super fans with one another.”

Several leading video game companies have already committed to participating in E3 2020, including Xbox, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Bethesda Softworks, SEGA, Capcom, Square Enix, Take-Two Interactive Software, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc., and Warner Bros. Games, among others.

....Jesus, seems like its still not a good idea to trust the ESA with data, then.

Rumors flying around that E3 2020 is getting canceled. Devolver Digital and Jason Schreier are currently calling it.

E3 has needed to be taken out back for a while now. If the virus is the one to do it then so be it.

[up] Seems like it might be permanent, too. Geoff Keighly, whether you like him or not, did not like what he saw before quitting, apparently. Wouldn't surprise me if people that originally meant to attend will reveal what was going to happen if it gets canceled.
