Library, lobby

Miss Tairee #10 was certainly surprised by the question, though didn't look shocked; more, mildly confused. "Well that's an odd question out of the blue, Cole. We are given limitless power to change ourselves, and so I, like many of my predecessors, went ahead and gave myself a perfect, ideal body, mainly for convenience. We're expected to look the part of our assistant role as well though; that's why I have these even though I don't need them" Miss Tairee #10 explained to Cole, bringing a hand to her glasses frame and hooking a finger through where the lens would normally be.

"I'm not sure if that's what he meant" the former Sekreh Tairee mentioned, looking thoughtful. "Care to elaborate, little one?" the elf then asked of Cole.

Meanwhile, Silanea glanced to Makoto again. "Well, my mother is supposed to be at the court in person by now, so I don't think I'll need to... I suppose I could offer to contact someone still at the tribe; that would be much easier than waiting for a messenger to get there" Silanea said, trying to think.

"We're ready now whenever you are" Valentina said from over by the mirror.

Silanea took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to compose herself; then inhaled a bit sharply when Rex was heard suddenly yelling at the air over at the desks. "What? Huh?" Silanea wondered out loud simply, turning that way; exactly what Rex had said hadn't been clear to the lamia.

Over at the desks, there was again that film reel sound around Rex, before he could hear that same classic director call out voice.

"Rex, Rex, I don't have fingers to lay on anyone. You don't seem to take this direct communication thing all that well; what if I send my assistant down there to talk to you instead?"

lewis, library, the fact that no threats have been made is a minor miracle tbh

"Um, I could—" no, I gave my word I wouldn't get involved. "...n-never mind." I gripped the back of an empty chair, trying to not explode, not helped by the day's apparent refusal to let me keep my hands clasped as tightly as I was trying. Yeah that's what you wanted for emotional support on a diplomatic mission. Just slipping up for those two seconds already made it that much harder.

"..................................................." there was nothing i could do, even if i could i'd sworn off anything not petty enough to be meaningless, would people even believe if they knew, would they even care if they did, who would even know that they'd listen to, it's not like he'd ever do it himself—huh...n-no, i promised. why, because i was scared? it would never be 'okay' if i couldn't make it right and how could i do that when i'd sworn to not even fucking try until it was fine which it never would be unless i

I glanced for a moment at the sudden outburst at the desk. "R-Rex?" Was this still on the thing or...?

Two and Sisters and Dito (who's just sitting there at this point) and Caboose no, Library

Something about a contrast how Ben was often the only person available or qualified to ward off a local threat, only to be kept confined by his own concerned parents... as far as Two knew, they weren't aware of the watch. In general, it seemed that it gave him purpose - the only purpose - in life, and that thought was kind of concerning. Meanwhile, Five ignored Four's minor scoff and proudly pointed to a V on her forehead. "Oh, but perhaps you don't know Roman numbers? You needn't worry your cute little head about it~" She giggled, but then something in her eyes flashed with recognition.

"Well, to me it sounds like you're being bound by things you don't need." Five hummed. [ "If that trinket lets you be a hero, who's to stop you from being a hero? Why, you deserve some recognition and a way to unwind, too."

"School is important in his life, even if he may not appreciate it now." Four cut in sternly. "There's nothing stopping him from being a hero and a law-abiding citizen of great prospects." Five laughed, waving off her older sister's concern.

"Ah, but what if he's feeling stifled, like he's wearing too many clothes?~"

"...stop it right now."

"I suppose I could do that." Opting to tune out that part of conversation entirely, Two turned back to Rean and Alisa. "Problem is, there's quite a few of those books that haven't been deciphered in full yet, so we can read less than we have." And then Caboose dropped a bomb she hoped he wouldn't. The bluenette went stiff and rigid, feeling herself break out in cold sweat. Of all the times... "...no, we're not telling anything." She finally settled on with a terse tone.

"Not telling what?" It was always the least aware-looking ones that were the sharpest. "Is it more interesting than Caboose's toy Freckles? You should do one, by the way. I think it would be great."

"Well, now you have my attention too~" Five smiled. Four raised an eyebrow, but didn't say anything. And yet, it seemed she too was curious of the discovery Two have made. Two herself was anything but eager to tell it.

"Sorry. It's not that important..."

"Oh, next you're gonna tell me that you're ditching Cent for one of those fine gentlemen here." Five teased, much to Four's chagrin and Two's red-faced embarrassment. "Or is it that Rex fellow? Aw, but then he would have left that cute mouse for you... unless you fancy women too~"

"Five, this may come as a surprise to you, but not everyone" The way Four said it might as well have sounded "only you" - clearly, she was already losing patience with her younger sister. "is a lecherous slag."

"Well, not everyone tries so hard to repress themselves until they turn quite green~" Four bristled with righteous fury, but chose to just sit there and stew in it. Three, situated between them, seemed completely unworried about being between a rock and a hard place.

Rean || Library

So a lot of the books they had were in a language no one there understood. Well, that wasn’t very helpful was it?

And then Caboose dropped a bombshell on Two, or reminded her of something. Was this about the 'evil flower' thing from a few days ago? From what Caboose whispered to Rean, it sounded like it was specifically about the sisters' origins.

"I’m not 100% clear on what you’re talking about, but your sisters deserve to know the truth, Two." Rean said, ignoring Four and Five’s back and forth.

He then reached out to grab Two’s hand. Now it was his turn to repay some of the reassurance Two had given him.

"Whatever it is, I’m sure they’ll understand. And even if they don’t, Caboose and I here to help. "

Alisa stayed silent, letting Rean just do his thing.

Doug stared at Rex for a long moment, and then he made an agressive series of growls, trying to copy him. It wasn't very intimidating, but he seemed proud of himself anyway. He looked over at the box as the film reel sound started up again, curious. Rex's yellling was too fast for Makoto to catch the whole thing, but she decided to dismiss it for the moment. He really did need to tone it down in the library though.

"Um, go on, he'll be fine," Makoto said to Silanea, trying to refocus. The earlier they started this call, the earlier it'd be over.

Ben tried to tune Five out himself. He desperately thought of a way to try and exit the conversation, especially when Five started to be weird again.

"Uh, actually, I need to get downstairs," he said. "Eve should be arriving at the library any moment now and I need to get her her present. Nice to meet you girls," he said, starting to sidle away from the call and moving awkwardly towards the stairs.

Oh... so she didn't want to talk about the stuff. Probably would have been better if she had told Caboose ahead of time about that, the blame was on her now... at least, that's how Caboose felt. "Oh yeah I'll definitely try making one, Three!" he told the intoner happily, confident that as long as it was functional he could build a tiny death robot. "Anyways, this is not really that interesting. We basically took care of everything already, I just thought that talking about it now would be as good as talking about it later."

Not like any of them could do anything about the flower now that it was already dead, after all. "Sorry Two," he apologized to his friend for tipping all her sisters off to the secret. "I kind of thought they might have already noticed? It has been a few days already." He wasn't entirely sure what they might have noticed, but he had always been bad getting out of an egocentric mindset. If he knew something then everyone knew it.

The soldier looked at Rean, who was being super encouraging about this. Not that the purple haired youth actually knew the full extent of what was going on. "I mean, she probably shouldn't tell them yet, Rean..." Caboose suggested, having a moment of insight. "Because One is not here yet. And this is probably something she should also hear?"

Two, I Don't Wanna, Library

Two was stiff as a board, though she did return Rean's encouraging squeeze. It really was it, huh? She would have to disclose the ugly truth, but... she didn't want to! But they would learn sooner or later. Was it possible that none of them were aware of their sudden lack of Intoner powers? If things were peaceful, then presumably there was no need for them to use them... Ben started to leave, but she didn't acknowledge the fact, just kind of avoiding everyone's gaze.

"Aw, he's got a girlfriend. You don't waste time, darling~" Five crooned teasingly as he started leaving before her attention fixed back to her sister. "Well, out of it. What's so gravely important?"

"If it concerns all of us, then we should wait for One, at least. She should be back soon-"

"No... no. I think One knows already." Two sighed in defeat, rubbing her temples in preparation for what was to come. "Honestly, she probably knew from the start... it's... I... I don't know where to start."

"Our powers are gone." Three spoke up suddenly, eyes lighting up with recognition for a moment before they went back to the same disinterested selves. "Is that it?" Guessing correctly that this was it - Two's sudden widening of the eyes helped - the purple-haired Intoner nodded to herself. "Makes sense. That's why I couldn't make Freckles..."

"...excuse me?" Four's tone grew sharper. "What do you mean our powers are gone? That's ridiculous. How would they even-"

"By outside interference." A familiar voice cut into the discussion, as everyone's heads turned. One made her way to the seats, now in full vision of everyone present, expression unreadable. "Whoever allows us to have these conversations had the Song excised with no ill effect for us. Four" The green-wearing Intoner jumped a little in her seat. "how are your nails?"

"I... they haven't grown very much, actually..." Recognition dawned upon her face, horror and relief mixing together. "They barely grew at all."

"Three, has Octa cut your hair in recent days?"

"Not really, no."

"Oh oh, ask me too-"

"And my senses no longer grow sharper either. The Intoners can intone no longer." Now that tidbit got Dito's attention, but before he could ask a pressing question, One continued. "But all these revelations come from somewhere and-"

"W-wait, One, hold on a moment... s-surely, this cannot be right? Three's just spouting nonsense like always a-and Two might not be in a sound state... who knows what that place did to her..."

"Please don't interrupt me." Four shrank in her seat despite the fact that One didn't raise her voice or even give her a mean look. "...hm. If I had a wish-granting genie too..."

"...did you... did you know all of this beforehand? Where we came from and... what we were meant to do and how we would end?" Two asked, steeling herself for the answer. Between Three's general disinterest, Four's increasing panic and Five's bubbly obliviousness (or was she?), it was One's grim acceptance that bothered her the most.

"All of it. I came to these conclusions somewhere along the line during our journey, and then confirmed most of them once we've settled. Dito, if you please: bring the other Disciples over. There's something they'll have to know too, yourself included."

"Yeah, I guess..." Thus he left, leaving only the Intoners by the call. One watched him go (together with Five) for a moment before turning back to Two.

"Please, Two, tell us about the Flower." She smiled, but it was a sad, defeated smile.

Well, Caboose also thought that One already knew. Her weird attitude when he asked questions was one of the things that made him suspicious enough to look for more info in the first place, after all. But it wouldn't be fair to talk without everyone being present. "What, are you going to tell them about the bird thing?" he asked idly, not really thinking of anything else that might concern the disciples.

Now that One was here, though, the explanations could begin. It was unfortunate that she really did know everything, since it painted a bad picture of her, but those were the facts. "Well, I kind of did a lot of the reading to find this all out," the soldier informed the intoners. "So I guess the best place to start is that you do not have any parents sort of? Unless you count Zero and a really evil monster flower. So Zero died a long time ago and this flower made her not dead anymore. And she didn't like that so she killed herself. And the flower really didn't like this so it stopped her from doing that and made the rest of you so that it would be inside of people who wouldn't want to kill themselves because it didn't want to die before it could do a thing that would destroy the world. And I guess Zero just wanted to kill you all to stop that."

"But it is dead now because we asked nicely, so that is all good now!"

No one seemed concerned about what Rex had yelled out. Apparently his quick thinking had saved him for now. That was close one. Doug even played along, trying to look as scary as he could while adorably growling. That kind of commitment to the role deserved some encouragement. And a few head pats.

"Good job! You're getting there"

At least the threat achieved something. The Director proposed sending a representative of his to sort things out without Rex blowing up at nothing again. With the advantage of being able to look at its face, Rex could surely convince whoever this person was to do him a solid.

"Yes, I would like to talk to someone that's actually here, please" Rex said, trying to lower his voice so people wouldn't be once again "But make it subtle. We can talk upstairs or something"

"Are you sure? I made a promise... If he's having a problem I should go help" Silanea said, in a somewhat worried tone. "... If it's one I can help with... Unlike your challenge... I'm sorry" the lamia muttered, turning her gaze away with an ashamed look.

"He can't be harmed on this day; surely it can't be that bad" Valentina said, a bit dismissive in tone.

"Like you would have any idea" Silanea stated reflexively, in a bitter tone. Valentina just stared at the lamia with a rather blank, unfazed expression, as Silanea slowly deflated, metaphorically that is. "... Sorry" the lamia added, and slowly slithered over towards the mirror.

"Do try to remember your manners in front of the king" Valentina remarked, only slightly being sarcastic, as she placed her hand on the mirror's surface and concentrated.

Her hand was briefly surrounded with an aura, and the mirror's surface blurred and shimmered before changing into the view of the large room in the Vusluoran castle they had seen before. Also like before, there were three long tables set up in view, with the king sitting in the center of the center table. This time the tables seemed more packed than before, with more nobles and what seemed to be church officials present for this large meeting. Silanea's mother, Akyaliha, was at the far end of the right hand table, wearing slightly nicer clothes than the last time she was seen, though they were plain, which still stood out opposed to the ornate clothes of the human nobles. She also didn't have a chair, with instead her tail coiled up on a fur rug on the floor, but that was probably just because of the ergonomics of having a large tail instead of legs, rather than discrimination.

"My lord. I hope we have not kept you waiting" Valentina announced in a humble tone as she and the rest of her party bowed deeply. Silanea glanced at them and made her own bow.

"It is good to see you are all still alive" the king said, though his tone was more neutral than happy.

"We are always prepared, my lord" Sir Tristen said, as he stood from his bow.

Meanwhile, Miss Tairee #10 had a look of understanding and realization pass over her face. "Ah, that's what you're referring to. No, when we get brought back from death to serve Writer, we're brought back as ourselves" Miss Tairee #10 said to Cole.

"Physically, and, to start with" the former Sekreh Tairee added in.

"Oh yes, just about all of us modify ourselves once we get the hang of our powers. Other than the general outfit, we're allowed to be what we want" Miss Tairee #10 explained. "Even back in my mortal life I was a Caucasian redhead; I needed real glasses back then... I've changed most everything else though" the tenth librarian added.

Over by the central desks, there was the film reel sound around Rex again, before he alone heard the voice of Director again.

"Alright, my assistant is up on the second floor now."

Library, upstairs

"... Huh? What's going on?" Louie muttered as he was finally and slowly brought out of his trance by overhearing some of the conversation that was happening. He clearly hadn't caught all of it, however. "Is there... Something bad going on? Something we can fix?" the trainer added, seeming perhaps a bit too eager to jump into things, as he took an action ready stance and held up a clenched fist. Probably no ulterior motives currently happening for the boy, no sir.

Then suddenly, there was a cut in the air just behind the group, and a tall Caucasian man with short black hair, wearing a nice, black suit and tie appeared. He was holding a flip phone in one hand which he was just flipping closed and pocketing as he appeared. "Well hello there!" the man said in a cheery tone, his accent sounding vaguely Eastern European. "How are you folks doing this fine day, huh?" he continued, before suddenly focusing on the red team member and adding as he put a hand out for a handshake, "Caboose! Nice to meet you in person!"

"What- how- who are you?" Louie stammered in confusion.

"Tset Diy Signh'ere, note  Director's assistant" Tset introduced himself, using his free hand to take a business card out of his front coat pocket.

He looked back at the tablet. "A lot of people here are very loud, and when I was first here, it was hard for me to remember not to be scared of someone with a lot of power like Miss Tairee has. I screamed a lot and said some really mean things. I'm trying to be better now. And trying to learn not to try to hurt people who are threatening Arcade. ...that one is harder. It took a lot of effort to not glare at Valentina for being as sensitive as a brick, but it was important for things to stay as civil as possible. Makoto just sighed and tried to ignore her annoyance.

"We'll be okay for now, at least. We have all day to work things out. Just...don't let them get to you and make you lose your composure," Makoto said to Silanea before the call started. "Focus on securing your alliance so you have a home to go back to, that's much more important right now." She knew a couple of things about keeping calm under emotional pressure, as that was what she'd been doing for the last month before arriving in the City. Playing a game of mental chess with both an invisible enemy group and a prodigy detective at the same time wasn't easy. "I didn't mean right now!"

Rex quickly built his boots and jumped over the railing of the second floor, unaware of the ruckus his display caused—at least he made sure to hold Doug so he wouldn't be sent flying all over the place. People were probably too busy calling their loved ones to notice or care. Unfortunately, even if that were true, there were still a lot more people ready to receive him than he had expected.

"Uh... hi guys. I was... waiting for someone" interrupting not one but two calls felt very awkward. Rex quickly pointed at the only person he could recognize, trying to change the subject and speed things up on his end "I think it was you?"

Miss Tairee #10 let out a little giggle. "Well, sorry Cole, but you wouldn't have even qualified, I'm afraid to say" Miss Tairee #10 mentioned.

"Nobody from a main cast is eligible to be one of the three assistants" the former Sekreh Tairee added, then looked to the tenth librarian. "Speaking of which, who are currently Tset Diy Signh'ere, and Tester?" the elf asked.

"Oh, you actually know who's still Tester, since I read that in one of your diaries. The jaeger AI from Pacific Rim, Director universe" Miss Tairee #10 answered.

"My, that one? He had only just recently started when I retired. I assume it's been much more relative time for him than it's been for me" the former Sekreh Tairee said.

"Yes indeed, he's been working for a long time now. Tset is a military starship crewman, from the Vorkosigan Saga, Writer universe" Miss Tairee #10 then added.

"Hm, I don't think I know that one" the former Sekreh Tairee muttered.

Meanwhile, Morty's sudden arrival at the call got most of the royal court to look confused, while the king himself simply raised an eyebrow. Valentina stood back up with a bit of a jolt, and glanced at Morty with an angered expression. "Someone who has joined you, champions?" the king asked, mostly just curious in tone.

"No, sorry sire; once again we've had to have our end of this communication in a public location. This boy has simply, shown up" Valentina said, a bit fumed, but otherwise keeping her composure. "Thankfully I have already spoken with the woman providing us this magic; she will remove anyone who becomes too disruptive for us" the sorceress added, casting a side glance at Morty.

"Now now, as long as the boy remains polite, I see no reason he cannot observe" the king stated, placing his elbows on the table and folding his hands in front of himself. Valentina reluctantly turned her attention away from Morty, to focus on the court once again. "I believe it best if we begin promptly. The sooner we are done, the better" the old man continued, then motioned to Akyaliha, "thankfully the lamia leader and I have already discussed the matter to an extent; they are prepared to accept the terms. From henceforth their people would become citizens of Vusluora, subject to and protected by all the same laws as any other of our land."

"Excuse me, my lord" spoke up a middle aged fellow in armor that was certainly fancy, but still also armor. "Surely you can't mean, all of the laws? You really intend to allow them enlistment in the army?" the military commander asked.

"From a purely objective standpoint, it could actually be a significant boost to our military prowess" Valentina cut in, speaking confidently. "We've seen first hand what some of their combatants can be capable of. After all, you can now directly speak with the men who had fought and died against them in the forest" the sorceress continued.

"But from a practical standpoint, sorceress, allowing them in the army would create conflict within our ranks!" the military commander retorted, raising his voice a bit. "It will probably already be disasterous enough letting them live among us! You really expect our troops to stand side by side with them?!" he went on.

Now, the soldier had no idea who this guy was but he also wasn't the sort to leave a man hanging either. So he took the hand and pumped it maybe once or twice more than was normal for a handshake. All in all, though, it was a surprisingly firm handshake coming from such an unprofessional individual as Caboose. "Yes, it is good to meet you."

He also gave a small wave to Rex, acknowledging his presence.

Ben started to take a step down the nearby staircase but was startled by the sudden appearance of Mr. Signh'ere. However, once the man introduced himself, he furrowed his brow and stood firm, glaring up at the Director's assistant.

He had come to talk to Rex about something. No doubt Rex was trying to make some kind of deal. After gauging the situation, he stormed up to Mr. Signh'ere and tried his best to look the man in the eye. Which was difficult as he towered over Ben.

"Hey, you!" he exclaimed. "You work for Director? He's one of the Writer's buddies, isn't he? Well I want you to give Writer, Director and Developer a message from Ben Tennyson! Tell your boss and all of those monsters to let us all go! And if they won't do that, tell them to jump in a lake!" he insisted. "And here's another message!"

With that, Ben swung his leg to try and kick Mr. Signh'ere in the shin. However, he missed entirely, falling over onto his rear. It hurt nothing except Ben's pride. After a moment of stunned silence, he stood and grumbled, glaring at Mr. Signh'ere and moving to continue storming down the stairs.

I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.

The day's theme almost felt like an insult directed at him: a darkless night, devoid of veil. The scenic starscape was its sole merit, and even then Garrett wondered if the Writer had stolen this sky from somewhere else, just like he had stolen the inhabitants of the City. Unwarranted suspicions, perhaps they were, but Garrett hardly felt the need to be charitable to their jailor.

Right now he had more important things to do than to speculate. He had made his way to the library, and right now he had reached the front of one of the queues to the Tairees' desks. This never ceased to feel demeaning — he wasn't used to standing in lines for anything — and there was frustration showing in his voice as he said:

"Hey. I need to talk to Hammerite Inspector Drept, can you get us connected?"

It seemed Five was more or less just focusing on Real and Ben specifically in her "advances" and Hercules really didn't have anything else to add to the conversation that Rean and Caboose were having with Two's sisters and like Ben decided to go downstairs. Suddenly a man then appeared from thin air claiming to be one of the Writer's assistants was here to see Rex who had also arrived on the stairs to talk with him about a deal of some sort.

Ben then almost immediately as soon as he heard this then got at him and then lashed out at Tset and then demanded that everyone should be released at once, Here had heard every word that Ben had said to him could only wince wishing he wasn't right there when Ben was saying this and what's worst try to kick Tset in the shin only for him to fall on his rear. He then started stomping off after this was done.

Here then just looked at Rex and Tset and then went: "Sorry about this." He said apologising to both Rex and Tset as he then quickly followed after Ben. As soon as he was at his side Hercules then said quietly to Ben: "Ben calm down. You don't need to yell at everybody who happens to be with the writer. You are creating a scene."

"...I guess you're right." Rean said. It would be best if all of her sisters were here first. Alisa, meanwhile fidgeted slightly. She seemed uncomfortable with where the conversation was going.

"Ummmm...You know what? I’m gonna go check on Millium and Gaius, and see if they’re almost here. Maybe bring Celine back, too."

"...Oh. Ok." Rean said. And with that, Alisa left the room.

And then One showed up, revealing that she'd known the truth the whole time, while Caboose jumped in and started to explain the situation.

"...So that’s what happened." Rean murmured. It took a bit because the explanation was buried in Caboose speak, but he got the gist of it.

And then some man appeared on the second floor, wearing a suit. He introduced himself as...Mr. Sign'er? Apparently he was working under someone named the Director. Ben shouted out that he was one of the Writer's 'buddies.' Rean frowned. There were beings other than the Writer involved in this mess? Rex came up too, apparently to meet Sign'er.

"Wait, Ben-" Rean said, watching Ben charge at the Director's lackey. But Ben then tripped and fell, and then stormed down the stairs, with Hercules following close behind.

"Anyway, uh...is that it?" Rean asked, returning his attention to Two and her sisters.
