Oh good, I can't wait to see how they handle Batman. Because we've all seen how well they handle the male characters....

They could have at least made this Robin Jason since he is supposed to be the asshole Robin alongside Damien.

Makes more sense than making Dick into an asshole just cause his name is dick.

[up] Superman doesn’t have a good deal here either, makes sense that Batman doesn’t.

Even then, it's not that he is a dick, but he really is a poor excuse of a hero, not the kid that basically becomes one of the most respected leaders of the superhero community.

Dick has been having bad luck with adaptations, doesn't he?

Superman's a jerk to contrast with Kara. Batman's been treated with nothing but reverence and respect because Babs idolizes him.

Unless they pull a 180 and make him Frank Miller Batman, there's no way he's not treated with the utmost dignity and grace.

[up] You know they're going to do exactly that. I do not trust this show not to go the obvious route have Batman be anything other than a jerk so they can have some "Never meet your idols" message.

[up][up] There's something particularly spiteful about how this show handles some of its male characters, especially Dick Grayson.

[up][up] Wait how does that contrast with Kara who’s pretty jerkish too as apart of her tough brute thing?

[up] Plus it is Batman, he’s always a jerk.

If you're talking about accuracy to their comic book counterparts, none of the characters in DCSHG (maybe Wonder Woman at most) closely resemble their standard characterization. It's more in common with TTG in terms of character divergence and that's the grounds the show requests the audience engage the show on.

If you mean male characterization, a lot of the later episodes have given them plenty of good points as a whole (though Superman/Robin are still depicted as jerks, though in Robin's case, all of the "Tween" Titans are juvenile hell raisers) in line with the wacky characterizations of the rest of the characters. Most of the focus are of course on the DCSHG, but the Invincibros have been given good characterization, as well as spotlight episodes.

[up][up]Maybe contrast was the wrong word, but Superman's just as snippy as Kara is to show they're not that different. One just gets more good press.

Batman doesn't seem so bad in that clip, honestly. He's a bit of a parody due to how all his dialogue is just grumbling, but he's also fair with Barbara and clearly sees her competence in comparison to Robin's complete lack of.

But yeah, most of the characterizations have been off. The way they handled Karen, Kara, and Jessica should've made it obvious.

As I recall hearing a critique here that Faust is too reliant on archetypes.

Like how Kara is a dumb brute who barely understands science despite that not even making sense considering shes from an advanced alien society.

[up][up] Karen and Jess should have been reversed amusingly enough.

[up]x3: I found it amusing how Bats just carries Babs with him on the grapple line.

But yeah, from the little we've seen of this version's Bruce, he only acts like a jerk when he's playing up the Rich Idiot With No Day Job persona on his reality show: Make It Wayne. (Conversely, Robin's nicer on camera, whom Babs enjoys while despising Bruce.) Even there, he's noted to give to charities and doesn't look down on Karen and Jess.

The below compilation also has another clip from "Am Batgirl", which seems to come before the recent clip.

[up][up] While Faust does tend to go with archetypes as her baseline and it would be a fair criticism that she should probably step away from them (even in cases of wildly diverging characterization), Kara being a brute who doesn't understand science is not implausible.

One, when Kara was sent away to Earth, she was prepubescent as shown in flashbacks in #DC Super Hero Boys. She's now either Junior or Senior in High School, meaning there is a large gap in events that could have stunted her educational growth.

Second, being from a technologically advanced society doesn't mean that living it it, one understands any and all the basis for all that technology. That falls into the Possession Equals Mastery trope, which is not realistic and is stated to be a fallacy in its own page. Part of being in an advanced society is compartmentalization and specialization of skills. It's why say most people on Earth don't understand complex mathematics that forms the basis of all our technology is only know by people who actually use it. If Kara wasn't raised to be a scientist, there shouldn't be an expectation that she should know science.

Third of all, comedy series. They are free to make changes around if they want to make a plot or joke work.

Huh I just realized Black Canary hasn't appeared yet right? Cause it be a great idea if they have both Canary's in the show, featuring the mother and daughter duo.

Cause I always thought its a bit of wasted potential that for a show with most characters aged down, they didn't bring in some of the Justice Society to function as adult heroes like Jay Garrick and Alan Scott.

While Warner Brothers and DC give the 2019 series plenty of love, it's safe to say that Cartoon Network doesn't care about the show. I mean, burning off Sunday mornings at 8:00, with 2 episodes each week instead of 1 is not a good sign.

I would say "Move DC Superhero Girls 2019 to HBO Max so it can be treated better." except that the streaming rights for the show are with Netflix at the moment, and Netflix doesn't really share streaming rights with other streaming services. It's like how Sofia The First isn't on Disney Plus in the United States yet due to the streaming rights still being with Netflix. Conversely, the movies and specials for DC Superhero Girls (2015) (from the regular series and the Lego projects) are on HBO Max.

Edit 1: I did not expect this two parter to be written by Jase Ricci. He wrote for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 (albeit only season 1), was a writer for Penn Zero Part Time Hero, and story editor for Tangled The Series. I do like how this is episode is turning out so far.

Edit 2: Well, I call this episode a good way to start season 2.

Just saw the season premiere. the Riddler was cool, always love to see him in action. The girls trying to get replacements for Babs was funny, especially the Katana poster. I will say the episode needed at least one scene with Bruce and Dick out of costume, though. Because that whole 'Robin on his own' sequence is weird.

Agreed. They should also bring over some more obscure female DC characters, like Volcana and Gsptlsnz.

Apparently, in addition to Lauren Faust being replaced by Amanda Rynda, MA Larson was also replaced, this time by Nate Cash. He did some work on Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, Sponge Bob Square Pants, Adventure Time, Over The Garden Wall, and the Animaniacs revival.

I was disappointed by Riddler, especially since two-parters usually have higher stakes. Dude was straight up defenseless aside from that bomb threat which wasn't even a very good threat.
