I've seen her stream the original Mario Maker before. She's good at the game. I guess nerves and/or unfamiliar mechanics just got to her.

It's not technically free. You can only place 4,000 ground tiles.
But that's still a lot, especially with it now being separated.

It's effectively free in the sense that it doesn't count against using any other blocks, and 4,000 plus those other 2,000 blocks is more than you could ever really need. The video shows about 90% of the stage completely filled with blocks.
The biggest negative I'm seeing in that video is that you're now limited to only 5 red coins. The 100-enemy limit also groups in a bunch of other stuff which could be a limiting factor, but I don't know if something like that was already in the original game.
