It doesn’t matter if you’re the biggest comic newbie there is.

I'll hold you to that. tongue How's the availability of Iron Man, Black Widow and Mystique?

Or wait, am I in the wrong Sign-Up thread?

Once again, I have reserved a character only to think of someone I'd like to play even more. Oh well.

  • Name: Captain Carrot
  • Real Name: Roger Rabbit
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 25 in anthropomorphic rabbit years - whatever that means.
  • Appearance: A friendly chap. Don't call him silly.
  • Alignment: A good guy.
  • Personality: Captain Carrot, when he's not struggling with his sarcasm or laziness, is a caring and brave individual. He doesn't like taking huge risks but when someone else is in trouble, nine times out of ten he will pull through and do the right thing. Is prone to sarcastic quips about how ridiculous everything around him is.
  • Powers and Abilities : Superhuman strength, Enhanced speed, stamina, hearing and vision, limited invulnerability
Ability to leap long distances. Can feel pain and every 24 hours, his powers wear off and he needs to eat another one of his irradiated carrots to replenish them.
  • Weapons and Equipment:
    • The Zoo Crew: I don't intend on playing as all of them perse (more details below) but if a battle is not going Captain Carrot's way, he will sometimes summon his pals - the Zoo Crew. The members consist of Pig-Iron (pig, superhuman strength), Yankee Poodle (poodle, American themed energy projection), Alley-Kat-Abra (cat, limited magical ability), Fastback (turtle, super speed), and Rubberduck (limited elasticity but not invulnerable).
    • Meteorite and Carrots - keeps his meteorite handy that gave him his powers and radiates his carrots with it so he can eat one and replenish his powers. Carries two such carrots on his belt at all times.
  • Origin: From the parallel universe of Earth C which was inhabited by anthropomorphic animals, Roger Rabbit was just your average cartoonist until he and the rest of the Zoo Crew were given spectacular powers by a strange meteorite. However, Earth-C and its more human counterparts occasionally had space-time fluxes that would sometimes transport Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew to other universes - meeting Superman himself in one such incident. The unstable Earth C had another flux and Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew are now stuck in space in another universe and they need to get home. Perhaps these Green Lanterns they've been hearing about could help...?

  • Name: Saint Walker
  • Real Name: Bro'Dee Walker
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: Adult
  • Appearance: Blue Lantern.
    • While most lantern rings are fairly small and basic in design, his has a bulky metal component engraved with the blue lantern symbol in the middle of a more complex pattern. Hidden inside his ring is a shiny blue gem.
  • Alignment: Good
  • Personality: Bro'Dee is an immensely peaceful person. Despite the misfortunes in his past and the injustice he has witnessed, he remains tranquil and calm and always believes things will be well in the end. He is also very respectful and always respects the rights and dignity of others, even when fighting them. In search of peace, he always tries to find a diplomatic solution, looking for common ground or a good compromise, but can resort to violence if he has to, although even then he tries to keep it defensive.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Mundane Abilities: Although his innate physical capacity is at a fairly mundane level, he has a reasonable level of fitness. He is trained in a form of martial arts from his home planet that focuses on agility and finding, then striking, weak points in his opponent, but rarely uses this as his ring offers better combat abilities.
    • Blue Lantern Ring: Saint Walker is the leader of the Blue Lanterns and possesses the first fully-functional ring. His ring is unique in design, and secretly has an enchantment placed upon it that keeps it close to him, even if he were to become unworthy of its power or lose the finger it was placed on. The ring's power is dependent on maintaining its charge and can be replenished by reciting the oath at a portable power battery, kept in a pocket dimension created by the ring, or at the central power battery on Odym. The ring's charge will last longer the better a Blue Lantern maintains a peaceful state and can also draw on the peace and hope of nearby beings in an emergency, so Saint Walker can keep charge for some time. The ring provides a number of powers.
      • Flight: The ring allows for flight and automatically adjusts speed depending on whether it is in a certain atmosphere or in space. When travelling long distances it can activate faster-than-light travel and an automatic guidance system, although this takes a while to accelerate and start up so it can only be used for travel.
      • Force-Field Generation: The ring generates a force-field to protect the user's body. This is normally a small field shaped like the user's body, equivalent to armour, but can be made to extend further or combine with another Lantern's force-field for additional protection. It also has some life-support functions such as stabilizing gravity and atmosphere. A Blue Lantern's force-field is particularly strong as long as they remain calm.
      • Information Functions: The ring has a large host of informative functions. Crucially, it has a universal translator which can translate almost any language (the exceptions being truly ancient and/or from another universe) and will alert the user of untranslatable concepts. It naturally syncs with a Lantern's mind and can play any of their memories, or a designed image, as a 3-D hologram. It also has an in-built database which it updates automatically when it connects to trusted information sources so it can give a Lantern information on a publicly known topic. Further, it can scan substances and obtain information such as their basic chemical composition. It also functions as a communicator, able to send a message to other Lantern rings and some other types of communicator.
      • Healing: A Blue Lantern ring can heal the user or other willing lifeforms of physical damage to some extent. This power is better at helping surface damage but can stabilize some injuries it can't fully heal until a proper medic can be found.
      • Energy Constructs: The ring can generate physical structures by constructing a mental design out of hard light. Compared to other colours, blue constructs tend to be smaller. This power can also be turned into a simplified energy blast, which just releases light and force rather than taking a recognizable shape.
      • Ring Interaction: The blue light can be shared between multiple Blue Lanterns, allowing them to power all of their rings off of all of their peace and hope, thus giving them a power boost when standing together. A blue ring can also link with another colour if the two users agree, giving both a power boost. This works best with green and rookie blue lanterns have energy blasts and constructs locked behind this function to discourage them from violence until they have learned when it is truly necessary. Further, this can be used to help calm a Lantern (although it works best on red) if their emotion gets out of control, provided that some part of them wants the help.
      • Corps Functions: The ring also has a few other functions; it can instantly create and, when necessary, change the design of the Lantern's uniform, make another blue ring (which can be temporary or restricted-use) for recruitment and scan a mind to see whether it is suitable to wield the blue.
    • Mind Gem: Saint Walker guards one of the powerful Infinity Gems. It gives him assorted mental powers but he does not commonly use them all, as some make his possession of extra power too obvious and some are, from his perspective, morally reprehensible.
      • Telekinesis: He can move objects remotely using the power of his mind.
      • Telepathy: Even over vast distances, he can create telepathic links and communicate with others just by thought. He can also use this to gather peace to increase his power.
      • Mind Control: Theoretically, he could control other people's minds and manipulate their memories. However, he thinks that actually using this ability would be morally wrong so he has never actually done so and it would be fairly weak if he did due to this total lack of practice.
  • Weapons and Equipment: He possesses a customized Blue Lantern ring with the mind gem secretly hidden in it. As the leader and first Lantern of the corps, he is very skilled at channeling its power. He also has a blue power battery, which can charge up his ring's, or another blue lantern's, power and is stored in a pocket dimension linked to the ring.
  • Origin: Bro'Dee Walker once lived happily with his family on his home planet, Astonia, in what the Lantern Corps designated sector 1. He was quite a religious and spiritual man, being given the name of Saint Walker by many of his people. When his planet was threatened by a dying sun, he learned of an ancient prophecy and his family ascended a spiritually-revered mountain, the prophecy saying that the savior would be found at its summit. However, the climb was harsh and along the way his family died, leaving only him remaining at the top of the mountain. Once he reached the top, he found no savior but quickly realized the truth; he was the savior that the prophecy had spoken of. He found true peace with the universe and felt the power of the blue light rushing through him. Although he was not the first to discover this light, the Watchers having known of it before, he now shaped it into a ring like that of the famous Green Lanterns and discovered the power within. When he returned down the mountain he brought the message of peace to his people, and witnessed its power; the residual blue energy allowed a rift to open, allowing the majestic entity Adara, which embodies the blue light but lives in the astral plane as it can't take a physical form, to reach out with the great power of peace and heal the planet's sun.

Now knowing just how powerful the blue light of peace could be, Saint Walker learned to communicate with Adara while it still resided in the astral plane. The peace bird lead him to the planet Odym, where a renegade watcher told him what his kind had learned of the blue light. Adara once more made an influence in the material world, using its power to help Walker create the blue central power battery. With this power in hand, Walker made more blue rings and started recruiting new Blue Lanterns.

With Saint Walker as their leader, the Blue Lanterns grew, each choosing the next member one sector at a time, with a few exceptions joining as they proved their devotion to peace in other ways. Although a smaller group, it gained an established place in the universe, forming an alliance with the Green Lantern Corps quickly and becoming a respected organisation. Its most common official duties are to mediate political disputes and help with disaster relief but the Blue Lanterns are encouraged to spread peace in whatever way they see fit. Saint Walker doesn't consider himself above the others but they all respect him deeply and he realizes that this makes him the most sensible leadership candidate so he happily continues the role. Although assigned sector 1, he often travels the wider universe seeking where help is needed.

For some time now, Saint Walker has also been the guardian of the mind gem. While he was on Odym in the early days of the Blue Lantern corps, he learned of an incident involving the dangerously powerful infinity gems, where somebody had tried to collect them all and caused massive devastation even in failing to assemble the set. Unexpectedly, the mind gem resonated with the ultimate peace of the blue light and Adara managed to bring the mind gem across the universe to Odym, where Saint Walker vowed to protect it. He crafted a new ring that could hold it safely and vowed to never abuse its power and keep his ownership of it entirely secret. He eventually managed to get a powerful sorcerer to enchant his ring against loss or theft so he could keep the gem safe, although the mage did not learn what he was really helping to protect. With the power of the blue light and the responsibility both of leading his corps and protecting a dangerous artifact, he set out to spread peace and help the universe.

Oath
In fearful day, in raging night,
With strong hearts full, our souls ignite.
When all seems lost to endless blight,
Look to the stars, for peace shines bright!

[up][up][up] Wassup.

Iron Man is part of the New York game, or at least was until his player unfortunately had to leave. So while the position is technically open, Tony has been part of the game for so long and been integral to so many important events that retconning him away is impossible and picking up where the other player left off is nothing short of intimidating.

Mystique has shown up in the New York game as well, but only as an NPC. If memory serves, she did all of the mutant supremacy brouhaha that you would expect, going so far as to try and assassinate TV personality Jack Ryder, at which point she was captured. She was then released—this game day, in fact—by her two children, fellow mutant supremacist Raze and reluctant but dutiful daughter Rogue.

Black Widow hasn't been touched so far, as far as I'm aware. But this particular sign-up is for the Cosmic game, which is looking to have a pretty high power base. Black Widow would probably be better served in the superpowered intrigue of the New York game, the gritty misadventures of the Hub City villain game, or even the Saturday Morning Cartoon antics of the Jump City game.

@Saturn: Just because some characters have had space adventures doesn't mean they are well-suited to them. The Punisher example in particular is ridiculous. What would Taskmaster, a human mercenary, be doing in space? Also, what's he gonna do if Galactus sneezes his way?

I'm not saying Taskmaster wouldn't be a fun character to play. But he'd fit better in Hub or New York.

Still, the choice is yours (with GM approval of course.)

Oh, that reminds me- who's going to be the sub-GM for this? While I know Liz would do great job, I'm also aware of how much stress he's already under with New York + keeping an eye on all threads.

Marblocks: That does sound like a cool idea, though I hasten to note that there's actually been a Bruce Wayne Batman in the original game. Still, we can easily work around this. Perhaps this is another Batman, even a Batman from an alien world that coincidentally has some things resembling earth bats on it. Hell, it could even be the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh.tongue

Strato: Consider him unreserved.

Lemurian: What Uncan said.

Fantasy Liver: Nice choice. Reminds me of an idea I had where the Zoo Crew came from Halfworld, home to Rocket Raccoon and other sapient animals. Still, if you prefer the alternate universe angle, that's up to you.

Saturn, Sijo, I say this now before it escalates: cool your jets, the pair of you. I'm not about to go to bed just so I can wake up to another bloody flame war.

On the matter at hand, my personal vote goes to Amethyst of Gemworld. But if we can have a Symbiote Alien Batman, I see no reason why someone like Taskmaster can't be reinvented into, say, an alien bounty hunter that specialises in giant monsters.

People and events are going to be waking up fresh, and historical evidence shows that it's the best time for enterprising newbies to get in on the action. tongue

@Liz: no Flame War on my part, sorry if it sounded like that. I was just baffled by Saturn's choice and was trying to explain why. But I've ALWAYS believed in "let each player play his way, this is a game, its about having fun." With the GM having final word for fairness' sake of course.

I think the real confusion comes from confabulating "Cosmic" with "Space." Both are fun to play but obviously, we'll have to keep an eye for balance issues. Let the powerful characters fight it out while the more human ones deal with the behind the scene plots, and such.

  • Name: Death's Head, yes?
  • Real Name: N/A
  • Gender: Identifies as male
  • Age: A freelance peacekeeping agent never tells, hm?
  • Appearance: A good picture, no?
  • Alignment: As a freelance peacekeeping agent, he keeps the peace, yes? For a price, of course. It's not his fault that he tends to go along with the highest bidder's idea of peace, is it?
  • Personality: Resourceful, daring, deadly. Not a bad resume, right? He's not in the freelance peacekeeping career to make friends. Or to help out the galaxy, come to think of it. He's in it for the rewards: credits, shanix, Altairian dollars, Flanian pobblebeads. They're all good with him, no? Gadgets and technology are alright too. One of the perks of not having to eat is that you've got a lot more disposable income than your average sentient, yes? Some people call him a bounty hunter. They never do it twice, hm?
  • Powers and Abilities: A good shot with his plasma rifle. That robotic body of his means that he can take a lot of punishment, yes? Modular right hand, too. Can switch it out for different attachments, hm? Grappling hook, mace, spear, heat sensor, net cannon, even a miniature concussion rocket launcher. Good for bringing down his quarry, eh? A rather resourceful fellow too, if I do say so myself. Good at improvising when things go wrong. In his line of work, things tend to go wrong a little too often, yes? Never hurts to be prepared.
  • Weapons and Equipment: His plasma rifle is a fairly decent blaster, no? Got that modular hand, too. Always handy in a scrape, right?
  • Origin: Nobody really knows where he comes from, do they? He's a robotic life-form, maybe from some uncharted arm of the galaxy. Or maybe he's a prototype cyborg gone wrong. Lots of people like to speculate. Anyway, no matter where he sprang from, he's carving out a name for himself among the seedier spaceports. Doesn't like working for robots larger than himself, though. Says he had a bad run-in with something calling itself a "Decepticon" years ago, whatever that is. Hm. Not too fond of doctors either. Says he's looking for someone calling themselves "The Doctor", eh? Says he's got a score to settle with him. I'd stay out of Death's Head's way, no? Death's Head has had a few good business deals recently, though. Helped, ah, pacify a few rabble-raising warlords on some backwater planets. Also brought in a prince recently. Another warmongering organic with more bluster than grey matter, no? A Zn'rx, I think he was called. Called himself Jakal. High Prince Jakal, or something. Anyway, Death's Head decided to lie low for a while after it attracted a little too much attention among the local sector's law enforcement, hm? Green Lanterns don't take kindly to freelance peacekeeping agents overstepping their boundaries. Maybe all he needs is a juicy contract to get back in the old spirit, yes?

For some reason, he's got an irrational hatred of police boxes. Who knows why?

@Oni-lord: I decided to go with one of my backups, go ahead and use gali

  • Name: Udarnik/Shock-Worker
  • Gender: Male, though he's sexless
  • Age: 50's
  • Appearance: Udarnik, Shock-Worker
  • Alignment: Good
  • Personality: Udarnik by all intents and purposes is a polite and humble soul, an industrious one with understated cleverness and genius, if a bit grim and jaded. Shock-worker is more aggressive and single minded in the surface, geared to defend himself and his own creations. Udarnik is the dominant, and only snaps into Shock-Worker when seriously threatened. Internally they work well together often conversing, Shock-worker being a simple minded yet amicable precence, like an over protective lab assistant.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Robotic Physiology: He's a completely artificial mechanical organism, not needing air or water and being in general very sturdy but being vulnerable to EMP's, malware, viruses and needing either an external power input to fill his batteries or radioactive materials to fuel his internal engine. He's also able to modify himself.
    • Defence System: When threatened and snapping into Shockworker his body shifts from its more 'delicate' mode into a stronger, bulkier one. At first he only had that: more resilience and strength by now he had added a few more features, namely a couple of energy blasters and barrier generators. Shock-Worker's subroutines and programming allows him to use them effectively use them
    • Construction: Udarnik is capable to design and build almost anything given enough time, the right tools and materials, with superhuman efficiency and proficiency. Before needing basic tools was a limitation to him but since he has added such tools to his default form.

Weapons/equipment/Assets: The Crimson Dynamo : A large ship originally constructed from the materials given to him to build the mining complex. It is powered by a larger more efficient version of his own reactor and houses facilities to manufacture and repair equipment of all kinds. It has some light armament on its own but its defenses come more from the armoring and energy fields it generates. Since it is essentially a mobile workshop/research lab it is bound to have weaponry and gadgetry lying around.

  • Origin: The servile Udarnik was created in a secret soviet project at the tail end of the space race. He was meant to be the perfect laborer, an engineer to surpass the human capacity and push the space race beyond their wildest dreams. The young robot was sent on a mission to establish a mining operation on the asteroid belt, however the transmissions and orders petered out as interest in the space race and developments dropped. Soon he was stranded with equipment that wasn't well suited for its intended purpose. He attempted to rig something that could send a signal back to planet Earth, but to not much avail, so he waited, decades on end for rescue. He decided at the end that if humans didn't want him he'd leave, the cosmos seemed so open and full of possibility. He used the ship he took on the way there and the materials for the station and he made a new ship to escape. Now he drifts through the galaxy, giving a helping hand and taking jobs where his expertise may be needed.
