"One is amply enough. I could have done this from the very moment we acquired the CFO's core, but at the time, we had no idea they were personally connected to this 'Chairman' himself."

Tarboy growls and shudders, remembering that disturbing voice coming from the Director of Ambush Marketing...

"THE CHAIRMAN WON'T BE HAPPY UNTIL YOU ARE."

A lie, of course. The Chairman won't be happy until everything in the world is under his boot. He couldn't give less of a damn about anyone's happiness.

Tokiko pulls a crystal orb out of a void of holding, along with some other reagents that she uses in a scrying ritual, with the Cog core serving as primary connection to the target. The orb lights up, and everybody can observe a dark and bleak scene...

Where Fun Is Dead

The divination orb displays a dreary and desolate land, akin to the HQs, but somehow even bleaker. The black smog of countless pipes blankets the sky in thick darkness. Not a ray of the sun ever graces this husk of a country.

The countless Cogs attending the various buildings serving similar purposes to the other minor facilities - Factories, Mints, DA's Offices, and Golf Courses - are somehow even more empty of any personality than the ones everyone here has seen so far. All wear black-and-grey suits. Their wrinkled heads have no faces. They carry out their tasks without a sliver of enthusiasm nor discontent. Even the ones who seem to be taking a rest don't seem to be enjoying it - the impression is more that "resting" is just another task for them to accomplish, another part of their daily routine. Tokiko was right - ants in an anthill have more liveliness and individuality to them than these hollow drones.

In the center lies a gigantic mechanical castle billowing oily-black smoke, staining the already filthy sky even further. A giant angry face adorns its facade. The view zooms on the great gates of the castle, then the orb emits a painful flash and the image fades away.

Skippy watches intently.

"That's... That's gotta be Cog Nation. No doubt about it."

Blade Wolf looks at Tokiko. Even though his facial expression is unchanging, he is clearly looking at her with concern. "He saw through your scrying."

Bloody Bunny tugs at Skippy's hand.

"Right. If the Executive Office Tower is a forbidden zone, Cog Nation is uncharted territory. It's said the Cogs all come from there. No Toon has ever even tried to go there. Either our portable holes simply can't reach it, or it's safeguarded against any form of entry. Completely. The only way I could ever even think of getting in is if I was let in."

"Nobody has ever reached it? I'll take that as a challenge, then."

"Not so fast, red ronin. I am getting a bad feeling about this. Especially considering that he managed to block my scrying spell somehow... This Chairman is not like the other flunkies. We are not rushing blindly in there without any preparation."

Tarboy remains standing there, reeling in disgust and horror from what he has seen. On his world, the slaves felt miserable, but at least they felt something. The Fatcats were greedy and cruel, but at least their motivations were understandable in some way. This place and its inhabitants, on the other hand... they can't even be called evil. They have no heart. No soul.

Somewhere in Space, In Another Universe

Here it is, folks! The championship match! Not since Chrome Scream has Chromus Supremus been challenged by another robot, yet here comes Cherormromem, the rich kid with an attitude!

"I shall dominate your champion and become the new master of Robotropolis!"

GO!

Cherormromem is taunting Chromus, and gets a missile barrage to the face for his hubris!

He promptly returns fire with his own missiles! Chromus repairs the damage, and immediately fires off another missile swarm!

Cherormromem is known for his hatred of using repair units, but it looks like if he doesn't use one, he might get shredded by Chromus' missiles before we can get into the frenetic up-close action he's known for! What will he do?!

He... he uses a Shield! The cross-up, weaving behind Chromus with his insane speed and toward the edge of the ring, counting on Chromus using the distance to fire off another round of missiles, which are wasted on the shield!

He's... he's going for it! HE'S GOING FOR IT! THE CHARGE ATTACK!

"RAMMING... SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!"

OH, BY THE MAKERS, CHROMUS IS HURTING AFTER THAT BRUTAL IMPACT! AS HUMANITY IS MY WITNESS, HE HAS BEEN RENT ASUNDER! All he does is swing at Cherormromem... oh, and he dodges the punch!

Chromus is now standing over Cherormromem, ready to crush him with his massive bulk! But the slippery tank-treaded devil slides out from under him and stabs through him with another brutal strike!

He blitzes behind Chromus to the other side of the ring in a single motion. Chromus takes his chance to self-repair before backing to his own end of the ring. It seems neither of these competitors want to face each other right now!

But - oh, and Cherormromem blasts Chromus with his missile batteries, prompting the reigning champion to step closer, right into the center!

WATCH OUT, WATCH OUT, WATCH OUT - OH, AND CHROMUS TAKES ANOTHER DIRECT CHARGE, forcing him to use his last repair unit! He swipes at Cherormromem - no dice!

Cherormromem makes a brutal double strike on Chromus' chrome-dome, but it doesn't seem all that effective! Neither, however, do Chromus' direct punches, which Cherormromem continues to dodge with the finesse of a ballerina!

Cherormromem crosses back over to Chromus' side of the ring, receiving another blast of missiles! I think he's goading Chromus! But why?

He taunts again, the madman! And Chromus... Chromus has just fired off the last missiles in his battery!

And it's... IT'S ANOTHER CHA - BY THE MAKERS, CHERORMROMEM HAS JUST REDUCED CHROMUS SUPREMUS TO SCRAP METAL WITH HIS THIRD AND FINAL CHARGE!

Cherormromem raises his weaponized arms to the sky after his championship victory.

In the interview room afterwards...

"So, new champ: Will you continue to fight, or will you walk on to your freedom?"

"Neither. I will ascend my limits, and conquer those above me. I will conquer HUMANITY ITSELF!"

"... Well, you heard it here first, folks! Looks like our hotheaded heel isn't much longer for this plane of existence!"

The sly green repair-bot slinks up to Cherormromem."Hey, uh, Chief, I know what you just said and all, but eh..."

"What."

"We've got the business offer of a lifetime. Contract work, looks like." He passes Cherormromem a dataslate. The new champion sheathes his wire-wrapped blades to unveil thick-fingered mechanical hands, which promptly take the slate and swipe through it.

"I accept! My oppression of the masses shall transcend time and space! I WILL BE THE NEW GOD!"

"Okay, okay, calm down the hubris a little unless you want an antimatter smiting."

"THE COWARDS WOULD NEVER TRY IT NOW."

Shadow gives Botar a confident look, bearing a hint of amusement.

"C'mon, if they tried to pull something like that, I'd totally ensure they regretted it. You don't need to worry about me, there. Violation of a treaty isn't something I take lightly."

He then raises an eyebrow, taking another look at each connected realm.

"Eh, well, if you ask me, the mana flow in a lot of these places seems a lot more structurally sound and inert than in the metamorphic part. Well, at least in the areas that have enough ambient magic to be discernible. The others have a definite stability to them, but less of a native magical field. So, if you just want my opinion on the matter, it looks like these realms are going to be sticking around for quite a while, if not indefinitely."

"Oof, can't blame you there..."   , he replies, rubbing the back of his neck.    "Still, his actions had consequences, as did mine. What with your observation of the camera feed, I believe you probably heard me explaining that to Tahn."

He raises an eyebrow.

"Ah, Tuyet...yes, she's a real nasty piece of work, that one. If there's one type of villains that simply rub me the wrong way, it's turncoats, as you could probably tell from my mention of breaking treaties. Tuyet, and, by extension, other traitorous Toa, such as Nidhiki, are very high on my list for most disliked villains from your universe. Also, about Teridax, I'd understand his anger at seeing the demise of one of his own brethren go without immediate retribution, but impulsiveness isn't always the best way to go. I've also seen a particular incarnation of him that just goes to demonstrate how determined Teridax can be, though this Teridax that I have in mind is also from a very specific world, where he was untainted by darkness. I believe he's crossed between other incarnations of your world, as well, and may again, so there's always the possibility of encountering a heroic Teridax, however curious that sounds."

Nodding, he folds his arms.

"Ah, yeah, who better to send than a God when you have to intervene in Heavenly affairs, right? Also, I completely understand that you need to head back to base. You might be one of the mightiest warriors I've seen from your world, but, yeah, you probably don't want to take your chances facing a riled-up deity. Alright, I'll see you later."

He salutes as Botar vanishes, and then begins to turn back toward Ra, only to freeze in shock when he hears him screech. Doing a double-take, he glances back, and seeing the great Sun Dragon plummet to the ground, his jaw drops. He takes a moment to rub his eyes, and, upon confirming that he did see the leader of the Three Gods fall, he takes wing to get a closer look at the scene, shaking his head in disbelief.

When Shadow arrives, Ra hits the ground, screeching once more as the flames bear down upon Dark Marik, who is screaming in panic and disbelief as his body begins to vanish.

"How... HOW is this possible!? How did Ra get overpowered by a... a..."

On the other side of the field stands Bakura, whose monster vanishes just as Shadow appears. However, judging by the size, which is still visible for a split second, whichever monster he used to win is rather tall, but not as tall as Ra. Bakura chuckles as he walks over to Dark Marik.

"Ra's divine wrath was simply no match for the wrath of my monster, Marik."

When he stands in front of him, he shows the dark being a cruel grin.

"You should've known I'd come for you one day. Did I not tell you once that you cannot kill the darkness?"

He snatches the Millenium Rod out of Dark Marik's hands as he completely vanishes, leaving only his Duel Disk and deck behind.

"H-Ha ha ha... by the rules of our Shadow Game... this is now mine."   , Bakura chuckles gleefully as he looks the Millenium Rod over. He then glances down at Marik's Duel Disk and picks it up, looking through his cards until he finds the Winged Dragon of Ra.

Pausing as he looks at it, he seems to be contemplating on what to do with it.

"... the risk is too great."   , he mutters as the Millenium Rod glows.    "I can't tear the card, but I know another way..."

In the year 202X, all is devastation... Soon, any last shred of hope had by the saintliest optimist shall die and decay.

Sky Haven Temple

Awkeff sits cross-legged in the temple courtyard, eyes closed in meditation. She takes in a deep breath. A small whisper escapes her lips.

"Laas... Yah Nir."

Her eyes suddenly fly open as her hand moves to her Nightingale Blade, resting in its sheath. Her breathing turns deep, each exhale visible in the air.

Down the stairs comes a boy in a checkerboard-patterned haori jacket, carrying a wooden box on his back. Awkeff's Aura Whisper tells her there is another person inside the box, although their aura is different - closer to somewhere between a vampire and a daedra than a human.

He raises up his right hand. "Greetings! Are you the Dragonborn Awkeff?"

Awkeff relaxes her posture. "... I am."

The boy bows. "I'm Tanjiro Kamado. Aran-sama instructed me to seek out you and Viserys for training purposes."

"... Should I know who that is?"

Tanjiro falters and almost falls over. He catches himself, though, and proceeds to rise back up to full height. "Samus Aran. My leader."

"Still doesn't ring a bell, kid. Mind explaining to me?"

Tanjiro quivers a little. I'm not sure how much I can say... "Er, I'm on a vital mission to stop demons from wreaking havoc and claiming human lives... but my little sister, Nezuko, was turned into one. In my search to find a way to turn her human again, I've gotten myself caught up in a war. Aran-sama... she's my faction's leader. The conflict reached this place some time ago, and many of our members have spread out over the place to seek improvement from the other denizens of this world. A few weeks ago, Aran-sama came back from a battle with moderate injuries. When she recovered in the medical ward, she told me I should get out there and train too."

Nezuko must be the person in the box on his back. Still, it seems like all worlds have their own versions of monsters and demons, so maybe she's harmless.

Awkeff shrugs and rolls her head, stretching her neck and shoulders. "Tanjiro?"

"Yes?"

"Fight me. I need to get a sense of the skill level you're already at."

Tanjiro's expression loses a little of its energy, but he maintains his composure. "... Alright." His hand moves to the katana sheathed on his belt.

Awkeff stands up and unsheathes her Nightingale Blade. She draws a Daedric Throwing Knife from a holster on her hip.

Test of Might (Waka's Promenade ~ Playing with Waka - Ōkami)

Tanjiro comes running in and performs a lateral iaijutsu slash, which Awkeff dodges by stepping backwards. The way he swings his sword...! She steps back in and does an upswing, but Tanjiro parries it.

Awkeff presses the offensive, going at Tanjiro with a relentless series of precise swings while he backs away from her and holds up his sword to block. Eventually, however, she attempts a standing power attack... and Tanjiro jumps away, landing on the roof of the temple. Fast... and fluid! He's not some run-of-the-mill swordfighter!

Awkeff raises her left hand over her shoulder and, with a wide sweep, sends a knife hurtling at Tanjiro with pinpoint precision. He sidesteps just a moment late, receiving a cut across his cheek. Another knife comes flying in after it, and he deflects it with his sword. He begins running back and forth across the overhang to outrun Awkeff's projectile volleys.

Tanjiro plants his feet and skids to a stop as he grits his teeth. Air visibly seeps from the back of his mouth like steam. Water Breathing...

Awkeff pauses, perplexed.

Tanjiro bends his knees and touches one hand to the floor on which he stands. Second Form... He leaps up and clutches his sword in both hands.

Awkeff's eyes narrow. She thinks she can perceive water erupting from the edge of Tanjiro's sword like the spray from a hose, but her surroundings aren't getting wet or anything. Then he begins flipping over himself, turning that water into a vertical circle... as he comes flying right at her.

Water Wheel!

"Tiid... Klo Ul!"

Awkeff shouts at time itself, slowing all things down to a crawl save for her thoughts. However, this only allows her to realize that in the moments it took her to use the Slow Time shout, Tanjiro has already gotten too close for her to completely dodge his attack. At best, she might lose a hand - just a finger if she's lucky. So she does the only thing she has enough time to do, and raises her sword and dagger in a cross shape, preparing to block the Water Wheel.

As time resumes its natural flow, Tanjiro impacts against Awkeff, and she goes skidding away on her feet across the courtyard, sparks flying everywhere, until she musters the strength to shove outward and launch him away.

Tanjiro lands on his knees, quickly pulling himself back up to his feet.

Awkeff resumes her deep breaths. She holsters her current throwing knife and manifests a fireball, hurling it at Tanjiro. He jumps over it and at her, and she seizes the moment.

She performs a horizontal sweep of the Nightingale Blade at him just as he closes in, slicing a gash across his face and making him fall short. She then whirls around and prepares a second slash.

Despite his injury, Tanjiro jumps!

He lands... on the tip of Awkeff's sword!

Awkeff beholds her current predicament incredulously. "I... don't think you're the one who needs training, kid."

"You're supporting the weight of two people on the tip of your blade. Even I don't have that raw strength."

Awkeff flings Tanjiro away with a quick diagonal swipe to throw him off the Nightingale Blade. "Th-that's irrelevant!" the High Elf stammers. "And why are you carrying Nezuko around on your back, anyway?"

"I have to protect her! No matter what!"

Valorous and foolhardy... heh. A lot like me. Awkeff casts the thought aside as she sprints up to Tanjiro. She begins another offensive chase around the courtyard, only this time she also slams a Fireball into Tanjiro's chest when she manages to move his guard far enough from his body, sending him reeling.

Tanjiro stumbles to a stop. He grits his teeth and does that weird steam-like breathing thing again. Water Breathing... Third Form.

As Awkeff switches her spell and begins gathering power for a Lightning Bolt, she notices the water effect once more. Rather than ponder on it, she casts the Lightning Bolt.

Flowing Dance.

Tanjiro moves with absurd speed and grace. The 'water current' from his blade forms a trail in its wake, a twisting and ferocious trail, like a winding river path. Needless to say, the spell misses, but Awkeff is distracted by him suddenly being upon her with another vicious attack.

"Mul... Qah Diiv!"

The moment Tanjiro's attack connects, his sword clangs off the ethereal armor of Awkeff's Dragon Aspect. "What...?"

Awkeff swats Tanjiro away with one arm.    "Wuld!"

The young demon slayer gasps, realizing the situation has been reversed in an instant. Awkeff is upon him, and he is too slow to react. She stabs right through his torso on the right-side part - but a little too far. Tanjiro's jacket is dampened not by his own blood, but by blood that spurts out of his box.

He notices and proceeds to grab the Nightingale Blade, even as its enchantment saps his vitality and stamina. It's making him struggle to control his breathing... so he just pulls Awkeff in closer and head-butts her, making her stagger and allowing him to kick her, yanking the blade out.

As Awkeff watches, Tanjiro takes his box off his back and kneels in front of it. "Nezuko, are you okay?"

A growling sound emits in response.

"Never let your guard down against an enemy!"    Awkeff yells as she hurls an Icy Spear at Tanjiro from behind.

There is a spurt of blood. Not Tanjiro's, and not Awkeff's. It's Nezuko's. The girl-turned-demon stands in front of her brother, arms spread wide open in a defensive stance, with Awkeff's Icy Spear in her torso. Veins bulge from her forehead, neck, and hands. She's obviously very angry.

"Nezuko..."

Nezuko runs up and punches Awkeff, knocking her sword right out of her grasp.

Tanjiro gathers his focus and stands up straight, calming his breathing.

Awkeff engages in a fistfight with Nezuko. The powered-up Dragonborn has a decisive advantage in strength and technique, but the demon holds her own through sheer tenacity.

"Fus!"    Awkeff shouts a blast of pure force to make Nezuko stagger, then squats low and delivers a fearsome straight punch at an upward angle into her gut, knocking the wind out of the demon.

"Nezuko...! Nezuko!" Tanjiro yells in anger as he rushes Awkeff in retaliation. She effortlessly gets him in a restraining grapple and starts twisting his arm. The demon slayer groans and gasps in pain.

Awkeff doesn't even notice she's been tripped until she's suddenly looking up at Tanjiro instead of down.    "Huh?"

Water Breathing, Seventh Form! Piercing Raindrop!

Awkeff is run through by Tanjiro's blade. She gasps and chokes, trying to steady her breathing. Blood runs from her mouth.

"Hhhhhhh... hhhhhhhh... fhm zhhh..." Shit! I think he punctured a lung! I can't Shout!

With a flap of her ethereal wings, Awkeff rises above Tanjiro, away from his blade, and hopefully out of his reach. She hastily casts Close Wounds, healing herself.

Tanjiro looks up at Awkeff. Nezuko limps over to his side.

   "Krii... Lun Aus!"

As the Shout passes through Tanjiro, he suddenly feels weak. So very feeble. He struggles to hold his blade. He falls to his knees, trembling.

Awkeff descends to the ground and approaches Tanjiro for the knockout blow.

Your breathing... control your breathing!

Nezuko gets in front of Tanjiro again. She growls like a rabid animal under her muzzle.

Awkeff attempts to brush her aside, only to be body-checked, getting blood from Nezuko's earlier stab wound on her. She laces her fingers together and smashes her fists down on the back of Nezuko's neck. The demon drops to the ground.

Tanjiro stands up, still trembling.

"You should just stay down, kid."

"I was taught... to keep going until I'm at my limit, and then push myself harder! I won't just give up! If you want to win, you'll have to make me stop moving yourself!

"Is that a fact...?"    Awkeff narrows her eyes. Then she notices Nezuko reaching out to her.

I have to help... I have to help my brother win! Blood Demon Art... Exploding Blood!

A trail of Nezuko's blood, leading from her to Awkeff's armor, suddenly heats up. The Dragonborn only has a moment to be surprised before it explodes like Brachydios slime, engulfing her in flames. Then Nezuko passes out.

The effects of Marked For Death are beginning to wear off, but Tanjiro isn't waiting to fully recover. He jumps into the air. Water Breathing... Sixth Form!

Although not that greatly injured by it, the fire and smoke from the Exploding Blood prevents Awkeff from noticing the water current of Tanjiro's blade.

Whirlpool!

Twisting his body in free-fall, Tanjiro forms his current into a spiraling column of water, whipping up the smoke and allowing Awkeff to see him... but it's too late for her. The wind stirred up by Tanjiro's spin pulls Awkeff in closer. She pulls her Nightingale Blade into her hand with telekinesis and raises it in defense, but to her shock, the blade of her enchanted weapon is cleft apart. He cuts a mighty gash into her torso.

Awkeff falters. She stumbles forward. Tanjiro lands behind her.

In a flash, she throws one last throwing knife at him, which cuts him on the other cheek.

Tanjiro's eyes widen and he collapses.

Awkeff huffs and pants, her whole body trembling, as she powers down from her Dragon Aspect. She drops her broken sword. While getting a healing potion and drinking it, she thinks to herself, Really made me resort to everything I had short of a Daedric artifact... I had to use a poison to beat him. What kind of training does this kid expect from me?! Basic strength?! The use of Shouts, even?!

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU?!" she yells out loud to the empty air.

It's a place where you have fun, dance the night away, and forget your problems.

He reach for Awkeff and, if allowed to, pull a blue card from behind her ear, with the "address" and precise location of the nightclub.

You look like you're tough enough to enter. Might be too much for the kids, though.

He observes and sit down, putting his fist on his chin to hold it up.

I'd rather not approach. I'm fearful of insects. he says, cooly.

The doors to the temple open, and Hunter!Reyna comes running down the steps. Her Scoutflies withdraw from Awkeff and return to the lantern-like cage on Reyna's belt.

"Ah, Reyna! I don't think I've seen you since our meeting in a frozen hellscape."

"Yeah, I sorta fucking died."

"... You what."

"Don't worry, I came back just fine!" Reyna adds with a wave of her hand. "And I took that time to get new gear and training." She shows off the Clutch Claw.

"... Now who're these guys?"

"The boy and girl are Tanjiro and Nezuko. Tanjiro came to me for training, and Nezuko is his sister. As for this man... did you actually tell us your name yet?"

"He's gearing up for war."

Kakleon. Nightclub owner.

He raises one hand and sort of waves, though he still look down at the ground with a calm, if smarmy, smile. He doesn't appear to react to Reyna's casual comment over her demise, though he raise one eyebrow.

Sky Haven Temple

Viserys quickly arrives in the courtyard of Sky Haven Temple, the commotion from earlier having disrupted his own meditation. After taking a moment to assess the current situation, he approaches Awkeff.

"What in Oblivion happened here, Fahliil Lokaliin? Because unless you were practicing your Shouting, I don't recall our meditations ever being so loud."

He casts a suspicious glance at Kakleon, one hand falling to the hilt of the Infinity Blade.

"And... who might our uninvited guests be?"

Awkeff gestures to Tanjiro on the ground, whose eyes begin to softly flutter open. "A particularly intense training session happened. I won, as you can see. Kakleon here happened to be watching. And, Reyna?"

"Oh, right. I was looking for you guys to show you something."

"Is it a weapon?"

"Mayyybe."

Tanjiro smells something. He suddenly goes fully alert as his face scrunches up, backing away from Kakleon on all fours. This man... smells like evil!

Awkeff looks at Tanjiro and sighs. "With me, Viserys, and Reyna here, you'll be safe from whatever is freaking you out. I'm positive."

"He's gearing up for war."
