x 3 I really wonder why Kumiko didn't try to get the dirt straight from the horse's mouth when she met flute-girl alone.

Because she sort of learned not to be quite as brusque and a bit more tactful during the course of the first season after having regularly put her foot in her mouth, especially with Reina?

Also it's quite a Japanese cultural thing, don't speak up unless they ask first and doubly so if they are asked to drop it like she did.

The seniors of the club REALLY have to clue in the freshman as to what really happened during the previous year. It's causing unnecessary drama, and might complicate things down the road.

On a less drama-related note, ahaha, Reina's red ears. I do love how the show seems to be toeing the line between TRYING to prove that Reina's got the hots for Taki (which in the books seemed to have dropped like a hot potato immediately and forgotten afterward), and making her more touchy-feely with Kumiko.

Or as the composition director of Kyo Ani says, we're all delusional and it's just "YOUTH!" ;)

She was asking the club president only a couple scenes ago.

She wasn't asked to drop it by that person.

So! Watched the recap movie. Some scenes that I'm pretty sure were added:

• extended scene of the group's performance at Sun Fes
• Yuko talking to Mizore (right before she asks Reina to throw the audition)
• extended final performance

Man I was really hopeful that the opening was only temporary but alas it doesn't appear to be... it really REALLY sucks. I mean seriously their openings are usually outstanding and flashy

That whole greyscale section with the fugly box needs to go.

Nothing beats the Season 1 opening.

Kyoani is a bit burnt out from producing Koe no Katachi, I guess, and Kyoani doesn't exactly have a good track record when it comes to second seasons.

Episode 2 highlights:

• Battle through T-shirts' words.
• Nice, the pool visit ended up being pretty useful.
• Reina.exe has stopped working.
• Those are some loud earbuds.
• I also know a friend who plays rhythm games like that, don't get them at all.

Yeah, the OP is pretty low-effort. The walkup part is ok, at least.

Yuuko and Natsuki are pretty great together, as always.

Eh. I think the OP and ED are decent though last season's are still better. As for this season's OP and ED I honestly prefer the OP to the ED though like I said I like both.

Episode one was okay albeit a bit slow. Will Yuuko be getting much focus this season? I don't really like her but since I do ship her with Natsuki I would like for her to get some character development so that I have a reason to like her.

Still waiting on episode two to be subbed by my preferred sub group though seeing as they only just put out episode one today I'm going to be waiting awhile.

I feel stupid. They explicitly showed us Asuka's reason last episode, but I couldn't connect the dots.

I did figure that it had something to do with Mizore, but I didn't manage to put two and two together even after the scene near the stairs. =.=

In a certain way, I feel that Kyo Ani is dialing up the Kumiko x Reina vibes, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, they seem to be backpedalling by, for example, bringing Reina's crush on Taki-sensei more to the fore (where in the books it was basically just a throwaway detail). Then in this episode, we had Reina herself nudging Kumiko in Shuuichi's direction. What?

I don't know about Reina's crush on Taki-sensei, but it comes across less that Reina is pushing Kumiko towards Shuichi and more that she's being a little clingy or jealous. (said with my Kumikox Reina goggles firmly on)

After three episodes, so far, so good. In particular, I'm curious to see what will become of the incident from their previous year and how it'll affect the band's journey to nationals.

Well, last episode is beautiful.

That full concert of their choice song was great. And to whom the solos were dedicated... well... SS Yuri keeps on strong.

That was amazing. I didn't expect them to actually dedicate half the episode to the concert, and they went on and made the music do the talking, better than words ever could. This is the kind of feeling I watch anime for, and honestly I don't think they can top the sheer competitive drive, passion and the execution presented in this episode, I wouldn't even mind if this is the final episode.

Of course, we still have two-thirds of the season to go, holy hell. Totally made up the somewhat boring conflict last episode.

It's only half the season so I was on the edge of my seat waiting for anything to go wrong! Nothing did, so much so that they wound up winning! Absolute perfection of an episode.

Episode 6: Start of a new arc, and the OP gets a full color upgrade! Which reveals that the euphonium in a certain part is Asuka's, not Kumiko's.

Well that was certainly a thing. I didn't expect Kyo Ani to take the little subplot with Reina and Taki so far.

I remember what the composition writer said before this season? "It's all youth!"^Explanation Said as a counter to any scene where Kumiko and Reina were touchy-feely, and could EASILY be interpreted romantically — remember, the modern Japanese culture considers girls loving girls a "phase" that most people grow out of once they mature Certainly turned that way there.

I dislike it quite a bit... because I ship Reina and Kumiko of course but also because Reina's crush on Taki is more childish than anything the Japanese may think about young women being together. The man is a widower, 18 years older than her, still pinning after his dead wife who is nothing like Reina so she's not even his type. Furthermore, they have not interacted all that much over all that deeply since Reina didn't even know the man was married. It's the most onesided love I've seen and Reina seems way too strongly into it without any self awareness
