Now that i think about it, AFO talks about comic books the ssme way early Shigikari used to talk about Video Games. Still comes off a little flat.

They’re both manchildren, no wonder AFO likes the guy so much.

Its so weird to see how much people prefer Vigilantes over the main series over on Reddit and other sites.

Like goddamn, how badly has this series burned people.

It's Reddit. Not exactly a place known for enlightened takes.

[up][up] People are free to have their preferences of course, and I generally like Vigilantes myself, but I just can’t relate to that opinion.

From what I've read of Vigilantes, it feels like it was trying to do something similar but still distinct. I can understand why someone would prefer its flavor, but for various reasons I was never really one of them.

But, also, this is the internet, and being contrarian/going against what's more popular is, ironically, a very popular endeavor.

From what I've read, people prefer the concise and smaller focus and a more "relatable" protagonist.

It feels less like Vigilantes is some masterpiece, but rather its just more consistent as opposed to the polarizing quality of the main series.

So because it end and some people are just bragging about it.

Plus being a smaller series in general.

I mean, that's fine. That's a perfectly valid opinion to have.

I'm more taken back at how hard people have turned on this series. There was a point where you couldn't get away from it.

I'm really not sure what the point is really? Yes, some vocal people aren't happen. They are almost certainly just a really vocal minority and not everything is for everyone or will please everyone in the end. These things are.... obvious? What is to be taken aback by?

Like, it feels pretty natural. Now, if what you're talking about every happens to something like One Piece then I think it'll be surprising.

[up][up] Just going from Reddit, the last few chapters seem to have had an uptick in positive comments. Though it’s true there’s still a lot of negativity mixed in.

I'm checking in, and there is a lot of positivity with people enjoying Vigilantes ending without putting down the main series.

[up][up] One Piece is a pretty good example of branching opinions as there is apparently a contingent of fans dissatisfied purely because Zoro didn't kill steal Kaido.

Also these things go in cycles. Give it a bit and fondness and favorability will probably tick up. But I try not to focus too much on those things.

[up]Of all the things to be disappointed about with Wano, that's one I never understood.

Zoro fans have been hyping themselves up for that ever since Zoro was revealed to be related to someone who killed a Dragon.

I think a lot of it is just Hype Backlash with My Hero Academia falling back on a lot of well-trodden tropes when its initial franchise selling point was its originally lightning-fast pacing and refreshing (some called subversive) takes on common Shonen story devices.

For the series that replaced Naruto and has global appeal, some of its decisions (i.e. treatment of love interests, subversion of Shigaraki's agency and character arc, use of Mirio and Eri) feel like They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot to them. Heck, I'm on a My Hero Academia-focused Discord server and every few days there's a circle of people mocking the series and declaring Sky High a superior superhero Academy of Adventure story. Many of those same people straight up declare that they've lost all faith in the story.

Taking a look at audience expectations and reactions can be interesting, especially since MHA likes to do meta-commentary from time to time (like AFO calling Jirou & Tokoyami “jobbers” here). But yeah, it’s probably best not get too worked up - I’ve struggled with that occasionally.

....Truly Naruto's successor.

EDIT: I guess its a similar feeling I had when I was reading Naruto; everyone I talked to loved it...until they didn't and then it was just the butt of jokes from the Shonen community for the next couple of years.

I never saw MHA as that bad, even if I found some decisions questionable in recent times. But actively seeing the shift was kind of jarring to me is all.

Think this is the only place I can actually talk about the series that isn't either talking trash about it or just indifference and wanting the story to finish.

[up][up][up] That is hilarious considering all the stupid shit in Sky High.

Plus a really milquetoast protagonist who never worked for any of his accomplishments, being more just gaining random power-ups at opportune moments.

And now Naruto has largely had a resurgence.

Mind, this is a lot of *online* interactions of people going on the hate train. Speaking anecdotally, I've gotten a lot of young patrons at the library I work at who are really into Naruto and MHA and other shonen. In online spaces, you get the echo chambers.
