Some characters just have lasting popularity. Ace in One Piece keeps getting in the top 10 whenever there's a poll despite the fact that he died well over a decade ago.

Something similar goes for Hancock, except she's not dead, but it's also not like she's done anything in years.

She's sold figurines. And probably a lot of body pillows.

Ironic since he's canonically in a relationship with that girl who had that retractability quirk.

@drakecake72 For recent popular female Shonen characters, Emma from The Promised Neverland got 1st in her series's popularity polls (she's the main character though and it's not a battle Shonen which we all know has a bad track record with female characters). Chainsaw Man had two female characters in the top 2 for its popularity poll (Power and Makima).

Emma is also fundamentally designed to be a shonen Hero first and a girl second

And Makima fits my female villain statement.

Maybe shindo was in a team up mission chapter around the voting time

And with the exception of Shindo, almost every character has had a more notable role than Uraraka.

I kept telling you guys her lack of focus was a detriment to her character and now you have definitive proof.

Miruko got 20th on her first poll, which is honestly pretty good.

At least they had lasting impacts and roles to warrant that. Shindo is a minor antagonist who appeared in a single arc for barely a few chapters, and his biggest contribution was making an earthquake and needing to be saved by Midoriya from Inasa and Shoto.

Also, something else fishy about this poll? There are less votes in it than the last one. If looking at the number of votes total between this poll and the one prior, you'll see a big difference. Tallying up all the votes in the Top 20 last poll, you have 65,665 votes. But tallying them in this poll? 50,928. That's over 10,000 votes less. You could argue its just COVID-19 making it harder to vote, but it's still just confusing why the sudden drop.

Just as big a difference if going for the Top 40 instead. Last poll? 68,940 votes. This poll? 55,699 votes. About a 13,000 vote difference. Unless sales numbers have dropped, I don't see why there's such a big drop off. And it's not like there are even more characters getting those missing votes, since 40th place is Mineta with only 84 votes. Freaking Mustard is in the Top 40 still. Something is clearly up.

They can mean something if you do them right.

Like improving a characters relevance or their character.

Man, there are so many people on Twitter saying that Mirko got robbed.

I've got nothing better to do sadly. Having trouble sleeping since I'm forced to get a COVID test tomorrow since my Grandmother is in the hospital with it, and I'm the person who was around her most.

Also, how is voting number differences mental gymnastics? Especially when beforehand subsequent polls increased the number of voters, not decreased.

Because as I said, it doesn't matter

This happens with every popularity poll; people's favorites don't get in top and act its like its some travesty

Since we're talking about popularity, I'm curious if Best Jeanist will see a surge both in and out of universe when this arc is finished. Might as well rundown the status of the Top 10 while we're at it:

1) Endeavor is fucked up right now, but the emotional strain of finding out the son he thought was dead is actually alive and also a crazy murderer matters more right now.

2) Hawks back was probably basically destroyed and I suspect he's done heroing.

3) Best Jeanist isn't fully recovered, but doing well enough, as we can see.

4) We last saw Edgeshot fighting Re-Destro so who knows how he is.

5) Mirko is fucked up.

6) Crust is dead.

7) Kamui got set on fire and dragged around a lot by Machia, and last we saw he was knocked out.

8) Wash's current status is unknown.

9) Yoroi Musha's current status is unknown.

10) Last we saw Ryukyu she was being taken to safety by Manuel, I think, so she's basically done too.

It's not a travesty. Just confusing. If I cared about polls in general, I'd be raging Mina never breaks the Top 20. I'm just wondering why the hell Shindo is in the Top 10 despite doing nothing in years. And unlike Ace or Hancock, he was never important.

So, that's three top heroes who have a high chance of getting booted out of the top ten due to severe injuries, the possible loss of a Quirk in Hawks' case, bad PR after the Dabi reveal, and death. I don't think a missing arm is enough to keep Mirko down for too long, but Ryukyu might have sustained some really nasty injuries fighting Shigaraki. Kamui's probably nursing several third and fourth degree burns and it's highly possible that Wash got dusted back at the hospital. By my count, the top ten may drop down to a top four; Best Jeanist, Edgeshot, Mirko, and Yoroi Musha.

The results aren't all that weird. If you look at the characters in the top 20, they're almost identical to previous polls (and those who fell are still close to 20.

Top 10 also isn't surprising besides Shinsho. The top 6 have been top 10 in every single poll. And Hawks, Endeavor and Shigaraki were definitely going to be there this arc. What I'm surprised is Mirko isn't higher though.

But swap Shindo for Uraraka and this would be the least surprising results you could get.

After this arc, Mount Lady has earned a spot in the top ten.

Shindo is there because for some reason the shipping part of the fandom got very entranced with him recently despite his awful personality.

I feel validated for liking Yo Shindo. It's similar to Shinso: yea he got barely featured but i like what they bring to the story. Fun quirk, fun personality, interesting concept.
