Princess Mako's fiance, Kei Komuro, is going to study law in New York for three years.
U.N. says it has credible reports China is holding 1 million Uighurs in secret camps
Gay Mc Dougall, a member of the U.N. Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, cited estimates that 2 million Uighurs and Muslim minorities have been forced into “political camps for indoctrination” in the western Xinjiang autonomous region.
“We are deeply concerned at the many numerous and credible reports that we have received that in the name of combating religious extremism and maintaining social stability (China) has changed the Uighur autonomous region into something that resembles a massive internship camp that is shrouded in secrecy, a sort of ‘no rights zone,’ ” she told the start of a two-day regular review of China’s record, including Hong Kong and Macau.
At this point, what more can be said besides my signature, plus a bunch of expletives?
Disgusted, but not surprisedConstitutional Revision: A (Tiny) Step Forward for Japan's Self-Defense Forces
While revisions are being discussed about education reform and upper house electoral distributions, the most controversial part of the plan — altering Article 9 — and its effect on the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) stands out as the raison d’être for the proposed amendments. While a constitutional revision could work wonders for the overworked and underappreciated JSDF, the revisions that will actually happen will likely be underwhelming from a military perspective.
China earns another victory in South America when El Salvador ditches Taipei for Beijing as reported today.
I'm starting to wonder if Taiwan will have any allies left by the end of next year.
Disgusted, but not surprisedWell, there's word in Swaziland that China's trying to make contact...

The Foreign Ministry had some comments regarding El Salvador establishing relations with China. I'd post the link, but it's too long, so I'll post the appropriate stuff.
A: This morning, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister of El Salvador Carlos Castaneda, on behalf of the two governments, inked the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of El Salvador in Beijing. The two governments decided to recognize each other and establish the diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level as of the day the Joint Communiqué was signed.
There is only one China in the world. The government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole China. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. This is a historical fact and a well-recognized norm governing international relations.
El Salvador is an important country in Central America. The government of El Salvador recognizes and promises to abide by the one-China principle. It has severed the so-called diplomatic ties with Taiwan and established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. This is a right choice made in accordance with the trend of the times and the will of the people. The Chinese side highly appreciates that.
On the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the one-China principle, China is willing to enhance friendly cooperation with El Salvador in various areas so as to deliver benefits to the two countries and two peoples.
A: Regarding the first question, I believe that you know the details of the joint press conference held by State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Castaneda this morning. It is for the competent department of the central government to respond to the remarks made by those in Taiwan, not the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. That said, I still want to emphasize that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and El Salvador is a political decision. It is by no means a so-called "bargaining chip" as imagined by some people in Taiwan. The Salvadoran government made the political decision to establish diplomatic relations with China without any economic preconditions because it identifies with the one-China principle. China highly appreciates this position of the Salvadoran side.
I also want to remind those people in Taiwan that to establish and develop normal and friendly relations with the People's Republic of China is the trend of the times and the will of the people. They should learn to recognize this overwhelming trend and stop trying to explain everything away in terms of money.
You mentioned that there is still one African country that has not given up its so-called "diplomatic ties" with Taiwan. We have repeatedly stated that the Chinese government is always ready to forge friendly and cooperative ties with all countries in the world on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the one-China principle. We believe that such a relationship is in the interest of each other and we hope that the relevant country could clearly discern the trend of the times.
...What a load of fucking bullshit. But then, what else can be expected from the CCP?

Disgusted, but not surprisedThe Pacific island nations are going to get the brunt of Chinese strategy of offering a faustian bargain and the Vatican might give up Taiwan in return of solving the issue of appointing bishops with the PRC.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleSadly, Taiwan has very little to offer, while China has a lot and has no problem in using the stick as well.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I know that Taiwan has given more economic aid packages and medical teams sent to Palau on a regular basis.

Swaziland’s resisting Chinese offers to make contact as of now.

The State Department is upset of El Salvador’s decision to recognize China.

Ugh, fuck the PRC. How I wish something would happen that crushes the metaphorical nose of the CCP into a bloody pulp in full view of the international public.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. That isn't going to happen as long as China still have that sweet, significant economic leverage.
I'm not as witty as I think I am. It's a scientifically-proven fact.Isn't their economic growth a massive bubble anyway? If that ever bursts, things will be... nasty, to say the least. :/
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.Cross-posting from the China thread: Xinhua sees the CPC make a desert, calls it peace.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)I've been hearing this for about twelve years now and still nothing has happened... The government has a pretty tight control over the economy so I would assume only a global economic crisis could bring it down.
Life is unfair...There was some suspicion that it may have already kind of collapsed, several times. But the CCP has made sure that no information of such a thing will ever get out, by blatantly falsifying all information available.
And indeed, they can just stop trading stocks if they want to and many other things that keep the growth artificially high. It is a bubble, but so far they've managed to keep it going. Right up until something happens they can't hide or spin.

Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleHoles are showing up in the balloon everywhere, but the CCP keeps applying bandaids. But sooner or later, the bandaids won't be enough.
And it's going to suuuck.
Disgusted, but not surprisedWouldn't it be the opposite of suck? As all the air is deflating out of that balloon despite their attempts.

Nah, they're sucking out the helium sounding ever more ridiculous as it all falls apart.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkelePretending your economy is fine when it absolutely isn't didn't work for Moscow and it won't work for Beijing. It can and did however draw things out.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Tokyo is extending aid for the UN in Gaza via economic aid since Washington halted all funding.
Watching it now.
Planning to get a book about the actions of left-wing "terrorists" in Japan. I read a preview of it and saw an excerpt on leftists that infiltrated JGSDF Asaka base.
It was interesting. I could tell you guys more.
