Watching it now.

Planning to get a book about the actions of left-wing "terrorists" in Japan. I read a preview of it and saw an excerpt on leftists that infiltrated JGSDF Asaka base.

It was interesting. I could tell you guys more.

The ads the various police departments are using to recruit peeps into the force are either funny or cool.

U.N. says it has credible reports China is holding 1 million Uighurs in secret camps

GENEVA – A United Nations human rights panel said Friday it has received many credible reports that 1 million ethnic Uighurs in China are being held in what resembles a “massive internment camp that is shrouded in secrecy.”

Gay Mc Dougall, a member of the U.N. Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, cited estimates that 2 million Uighurs and Muslim minorities have been forced into “political camps for indoctrination” in the western Xinjiang autonomous region.

“We are deeply concerned at the many numerous and credible reports that we have received that in the name of combating religious extremism and maintaining social stability (China) has changed the Uighur autonomous region into something that resembles a massive internship camp that is shrouded in secrecy, a sort of ‘no rights zone,’ ” she told the start of a two-day regular review of China’s record, including Hong Kong and Macau.

Constitutional Revision: A (Tiny) Step Forward for Japan's Self-Defense Forces

Japan has never been closer to revising its postwar constitution than it is now. Japan’s constitution, promulgated in 1947, stands uniquely among other constitutions without a single amendment. The political party at the government’s helm, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), has announced via Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that it is seeking to revise the constitution in the very near future.

While revisions are being discussed about education reform and upper house electoral distributions, the most controversial part of the plan — altering Article 9 — and its effect on the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) stands out as the raison d’être for the proposed amendments. While a constitutional revision could work wonders for the overworked and underappreciated JSDF, the revisions that will actually happen will likely be underwhelming from a military perspective.

The Foreign Ministry had some comments regarding El Salvador establishing relations with China. I'd post the link, but it's too long, so I'll post the appropriate stuff.

Q: China and El Salvador established diplomatic relations today. What is your comment?

A: This morning, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister of El Salvador Carlos Castaneda, on behalf of the two governments, inked the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of El Salvador in Beijing. The two governments decided to recognize each other and establish the diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level as of the day the Joint Communiqué was signed.

There is only one China in the world. The government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole China. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. This is a historical fact and a well-recognized norm governing international relations.

El Salvador is an important country in Central America. The government of El Salvador recognizes and promises to abide by the one-China principle. It has severed the so-called diplomatic ties with Taiwan and established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. This is a right choice made in accordance with the trend of the times and the will of the people. The Chinese side highly appreciates that.

On the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the one-China principle, China is willing to enhance friendly cooperation with El Salvador in various areas so as to deliver benefits to the two countries and two peoples.

Q: First, Taiwan believes that "money diplomacy" is at play behind the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and El Salvador. What is the response from the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson? Second, earlier this year, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed the hope that no country in Africa will be absent from the family photo of the FOCAC Beijing Summit. So, will Swaziland attend this summit?

A: Regarding the first question, I believe that you know the details of the joint press conference held by State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Castaneda this morning. It is for the competent department of the central government to respond to the remarks made by those in Taiwan, not the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. That said, I still want to emphasize that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and El Salvador is a political decision. It is by no means a so-called "bargaining chip" as imagined by some people in Taiwan. The Salvadoran government made the political decision to establish diplomatic relations with China without any economic preconditions because it identifies with the one-China principle. China highly appreciates this position of the Salvadoran side.

I also want to remind those people in Taiwan that to establish and develop normal and friendly relations with the People's Republic of China is the trend of the times and the will of the people. They should learn to recognize this overwhelming trend and stop trying to explain everything away in terms of money.

You mentioned that there is still one African country that has not given up its so-called "diplomatic ties" with Taiwan. We have repeatedly stated that the Chinese government is always ready to forge friendly and cooperative ties with all countries in the world on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the one-China principle. We believe that such a relationship is in the interest of each other and we hope that the relevant country could clearly discern the trend of the times.

The Pacific island nations are going to get the brunt of Chinese strategy of offering a faustian bargain and the Vatican might give up Taiwan in return of solving the issue of appointing bishops with the PRC.

[up][up] I've been hearing this for about twelve years now and still nothing has happened... The government has a pretty tight control over the economy so I would assume only a global economic crisis could bring it down.

There was some suspicion that it may have already kind of collapsed, several times. But the CCP has made sure that no information of such a thing will ever get out, by blatantly falsifying all information available.

And indeed, they can just stop trading stocks if they want to and many other things that keep the growth artificially high. It is a bubble, but so far they've managed to keep it going. Right up until something happens they can't hide or spin.
