Like, I get it, Don't buy the game if you don't want to, but bullying people for wanting to play a game is really not helping your cause. Terminally Online asshats.

Yeah I’ve said this on another thread, but I feel that certain members of the Anti-Rowling crowd are only joining on so they have an excuse to bully people with so called self righteousness.

I can’t watch that clip, she seems like such a sweet lady who doesn’t deserve this.

Probably for the best, this is some really messed up shit.

this is more a side issue of cancellation: the lack of proportionality and redirection toward proper people, after all is a sort of mob fury and it can be vicious.

Yeah I've seen people online wishing for the deaths of Rowling and her family as well as certain other people involved with the franchise. Mob Fury can be vicious even if directed at their targets. To be united by hatred is a fragile thing, there are more productive ways of being against Rowling's TERF beliefs.

But I think this discussion is going off topic and probably will get emotionally heated so we should drop this.

So onto the game itself, I've noticed a lot of reviews talk about how the game is full of plot holes.

If nothing else, I hope the story is an entertaining car wreck for youtube viewing.

Honestly? Yeah, probably.

I noticed that in the reviews I looked at. Even the positive ones were "you need to overlook all this to enjoy it", which isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

Def sounds like youtube watch material if you've got an afternoon or two to spare.

So many "big" games these days feel half-assed for some reason. Do they think, like, the IP alone prints money so they don't need to actually try?

I might rent it one day if I have nothing else onboard

Yes. And judging by the sales numbers of this game, it seems to work.

People really shouldn't be surprised that publishers keep pulling this shit as long as it keeps making them money.

Yeah there are a lot of games on my backlog so I'm in no rush to play this one.

Evil West sounds fun, but I've still got Path of Midnight Sun and Fire Emblem Engage.

The problem that Rowling has specifically outlined her stance as "Every cent you give me fuels my political campaigns". She has specifically drawn her line in the sand that giving her money at all is fueling a hate campaign.

I know this thread isn't about her politics, but her politics are simply involved with the game at this point. You can't separate the topics really. It's the elephant in the room. And Rowling in her comments directly about the game's backlash and the devs in their token trans character, have kinda encouraged the topic to fester.

If not her TERF politics, it's her and the game's politics of antisemitism. Again, it's kinda hard to disassociate creator from product when the creator outlines the veins connecting the two.

Unlike a lot of other major celebs where they do a job and do what they will with their own money, Rowling has left no implication on the fact that her funds for her campaigns come directly from fans' pockets. Other celebs do not comment on these things usually and try to keep a pristine public face. Rowling has instead embraced it, reveled in it, and encouraged people to fuel her bigotry.

There's no real ambiguity here for the franchise as a large entity. If it continues to profit, she will continue to license and in turn fuel her damaging TERF nonsense. It does raise a question of what to do when big names directly express their intent with what their continued work pays for.

I don't condone bullying streamers or other people. But there is a big difference between bullying or death threats and "Hey, you're not really an Ally to the community if you knowingly give her money after we (and Rowling herself) already explained to you she's explicitly going to use that money to fuel a bigotry hatred campaign against us".

This isn't all that different from a politician being outright on where their campaign donations go. Don't see why it shouldn't be treated as such really.

It's also not like there's *no one* boycotting the game. Several of the actors (the Protagonist VA comes to mind) and devs have come out against her claims and said they would never have participated in the game had they known what kinda person she was. Multiple outlets have decided to not cover the game at all in their news cycles. Other outlets that are covering it are clearly uncomfortable with doing so or jumping in hoops to justify covering it in light of the controversy. Pretty much every LGBT Twitch Streamer I can think of refuses to even touch it. Some even stopped streaming entirely because they can't control what ads air on their channel (a long time complaint) and twitch is flooded with Hogwarts Legacy rn.

A couple of my twitch friends actually brought together a weekend-long chairty stream for Trans Lifeline (I think?) this coming weekend to stream Trans-Friendly games and get away from the flood of Hogwarts Legacy. There are plenty of people who are taking this to simply deplatform her nonsense by ignoring it and promoting people who better deserve it.

It's probably not some tsunami of a boycott or anything, but it's not no one either.

As far as the game itself, anyone I know who actually looked into it says it's noting particularly remarkable, maybe a bit bloated/everywhere in mechanics, and the RPG-ness of it was extremely over-sold by the trailers and pre-release.

It's quite jarring that nobody asks your character any questions when your characters just use kill spell willy nilly. And the house choice is deep as cyberpunk choices, aside from few side quests, there's not much substances going on.

Yep. It's like ultimate in any other game. You can blast someone with OHKO but the cool time is quite long. And nobody cares you flings crucio and AK which should get you in azkaban immediately.

... maybe it's a weaker effect cause you're bad at it? Fake Moody did imply there's levels to it at least, unless he was joking about the entire class using it not even giving him a nosebleed.

Granted killhappy MC is pretty darkly funny. Old Hogwarts was hardcore apparently.
