A nice gesture would be buying HER the building and giving her it.

Making her his tenant gives him power over her.

Danny is also very dumb.

That doesn't really defend him. That makes him worse.

Danny doesn't need to be lectured or hated for not knowing social norms, he needs to be taught social norms.

There's not knowing any better and there's outright harmful and jerkish actions. Seriously, excusing it by saying "he doesn't know any better" outright makes it worse that he acts this way and gets constantly excused for it by the series.

But he doesn't...each time he oversteps, he gets lectured for it. One really need to be selective to act as if Danny is in any way praised for his actions.

Honestly, most of the time he is everyone's punching bag. This is a guy who has been betrayed by every single person in his live except Claire. By Harold, by Joy and Ward, by Coleen, by the other Defenders - and yet he not only turns around and forgives all those betrayals, I am ready to bet that when Davos turns up trying to kill him Danny will just blame himself for it. So excuse me if I am not ready to join into the "Danny bashing" because he is socially awkward.

To be clear here, if he had ever forced himself on Colleen, knowingly manipulated her into something or had demanded anything in exchange for being her landlord, I would have a different opinion.

Yeah, saying that the narrative takes his side when he fucks up is just wrong.

He knowingly manipulated her into going to that dockyard with him. That was the whole point of buying her building. In the same conversation, he's like, "So, now that I'm your landlord, let's talk about this favor you can do for me in exchange for free rent."

He knows that she's struggling financially and he uses that to coerce her into going on a mission with him. While adding another coating of, "I know the real you," a narrative that he spends the entire mission continuing to creepily push. He's molding her, shaping her identity to be what he wants her to be.

Danny is not smart or conniving enough to have ulterior motives behind anything he does. The man is face-value, all the time. He's a goddamn shonen anime protagonist. He bought Colleen's building because she's his friend and he has a lot of money he doesn't care about so he helped his friend out of all of her financial troubles forever. He asked Colleen to help him do a stake-out and fight ninjas because she's really strong and cool and he needs friends who can help him fight the EEVULL Hand.

It's not conniving or an ulterior motive. It is straight up what he does on its face. He bought her building and then he's like, "If you do this mission with me, you won't have to pay rent. Eh? EHHH?"

That's not some kind of sneaky manipulation. He's not hinting or alluding anything, but laying his new method for claiming ownership of her and her dojo out there. He is, on his face, a complete scumbag.

It's funny that Finn Jones actually brought up Trump as a comparison because he's right: a lot of defenses of Danny are the same defenses we hear about Trump. "He's so honest and forthright! He's like a big kid!"

It's just like when he walks into the dojo and tells her student to go home because he's decided for Colleen that she's having dinner with him. That's not manipulation, that's not sneaky, that's not hinting to anything. He is straight up saying, "I have made this woman's plans for her without so much as consulting her, and you're not included in them so get out."

He's being honest and presenting himself exactly as he is. And who he is, is terrible.

But that's not what he said. He mentioned that he bought her building in the middle of the dinner, and that he wanted her help way later at the end of the dinner. He didn't connect the two in any way.

I think this conversation is going nowhere.

Some people see Danny's act as how it was meant by the writers (non manipulative and him just trying to be a good guy) while others see it as a shitty and manipulative act so he can have power over her.

I think the divide is too big on this one and we should all just agree to disagree.

As for me, I don't really care. I just want Davos to whoop his ass.

And while he gets pushback sometimes it is not nearly enough and he gets rewarded for his shitty behavior enough that it makes it clear that the writers don't see it as shitty behavior

Assuming they will make a season 2, what would it even be about? The Hand for all intents and purposes seems to be completely dealt with. What would make the team reunite? Certainly can't be another conspiracy as Jessica shows they can each handle that on their series.

One of the only decent parts of Iron Fist was the little mortal kombat mini tournament

Tie them together by having Dr. Doom sponsor the tournament and provide the prize money. Luke wins and Doom bails, forcing the Defenders to attack Latveria to get Luke his money.

Danny does not sexually harass Colleen even once. You just insist on watching the show with tinted glasses that make you read everything as sexual harassment.

I would say that maybe it will be something else like Fisk. ('Cause I imagine Fisk will still be very much active after Daredevil season 3 no matter what Matt tries to do to put him down.)

It is emotionally abusive though. Matt is too unhealthy to keep a stable relationship with Karen and he's a bad boyfriend to her.

Season 2 will be about Davos and Joy, and I am ready to bet that Gao is still alive, too. It will also be about Danny becoming a full fletched Iron Fist - and then he will lose all his friends, Colleen break up with him and he will be alone by the end of the season, because that is apparently what they always do in the second season. sigh.
