Story's starting up FF6? That's quite a coincidence. FF5 landed on Steam today, and I just got finished playing the first couple of hours of it.

Wow Twilight vs. Tirek went straight into Holy Shit Quotient. Since when was this DBZ?

It was awesome to see what the alicorns have the potential to do when the gloves come off.

I'm still working my way gradually through FF 7 for the first time in years. Just beat the Weapon attacking Midgar, running a party of Cloud, Tifa, and Yuffie.

My Tifa's a goddamn monster, wiping out entire screens of enemies by herself with a Counterattack/Cover combo, plus Deathblow/Added Cut giving her a guaranteed crit followed by an extra attack, plus Added Effect/Destruct giving her a chance on hit of instant death.

Story: I think all the abilities are just there (when having nothing but Fire Beam would have sufficed) so they could just show off some cool effects. In a casual playthrough, they all do so much damage that it pretty much doesn't matter. In a speed run, some of the abilities are marginally faster.

Final Fantasy 6: Where I last left off, ?????? had just found a boy in an iceberg while out fishing with her brother, by which I mean tromping about in a mecha suit with two evil empire xwin pilot mecha guys. Then she awoke in bed as if it was all a dream. But it wasn't.

Good thing I took a savestate to be sure. Because the quicksave disappeared when I restarted the emulator.

Apparently ?????? can walk straight through her bed.

Time to name ??????. The game suggests Terra. I'm seriously tempted to name her Katara, but I guess I'll go with the defaults to make things less confusing.

I'm trying to greet the guards at the front door, but the game won't let me... wait, who keeps an Elixer in a clock?

Terra prepares to solo the mines again, this time without two dead xwing pilots to provide commentary.

There's this fake rock wall in the mines but I can't figure out any way to go through it. Oh well, guess I'll have to continue on the main path.

Flashback time! So Kefka is just some guy? I always pictured him as Discord, probably because I heard that he was replaced with Discord in the pony version.

Time to name some guy I've never met who just showed up. Apparently, he's going to be Locke.

I still don't see how these guards are supposed to be a thread. Terra fried loads of them during the prologue.

Moogles, so that's what those things are. I saw one in Order Of The Stick but didn't know what it was. And there's some sort of real time tactics thing here, though given all the chokepoints it's easier to just park everyone in front of Terra. And apparently the guards are all wolves and mammoths. The leader is just sitting there so I guess I have to take him on myself.

Mogsy, Mogwin, Mugmug, and Cosmog are down. Oh well, Moogles are expendable, right?

They just respawned next to Terra. I guess that's a yes. Once more unto the breach! ... they only have 1 hp though. Well that was fast. Time to try the other 2 parties. ... Good thing one of the other Moogles learned a dance that apparently instakills everything.

My mind is trapped in a fog... this is why you don't do drugs Terra. Of course it wouldn't be a videogame without the protagonist having amnesia.

Time to see if I can enter the Inn now that I'm wearing something more likely to fit through a doorway. ... Nope, everyone's too scared of the Mammoths and Wolves that patrol the town for some reason. Guess I have to go to school instead.

Locke just stole a potion from a wolf. I hate to immagine where it was keeping its stuff.

Done with school. Hopefully I can remember all that. And now I finally see the fabled overworld. I guess this is a good place to stop.
