Chapter 7: going fast as always. This is the moment where Historia became one of my favorite characters. "Fuck my dad, fuck my role, fuck humanity, I'll do what I think is right, whether you like it or not. And FOR FUCK'S SAKE, SHUT UP, EREN!"

That Levi-Kenny fight was pretty sweet, albeit short. And I'm not sure what the heck that net is supposed to accomplish.

Otherwise… what's up with the insert songs in this episode? I can maybe buy the one at the end, but a fucking rap? In AOT?

I certainly don't remember them being that corny. Maybe I wasn't paying attention back then. >.>

Well, corny may be a different story.

Eren's iconic "I never needed to happen," really stuck with me whne I read the manga, the scene was done justice I think.

What's wrong with the season 2 songs? Barricades is fucking awesome. Same with Vogel Im Kafig in season 1. Rap just seems like a weird fit for AOT.

Personally, I love the rap in all of Sawano's music.

Episode 8 is a little quieter than the last few, but does a good job setting the stage for the arc's climax. The CG for the Crawling Titan is noticeable, but not quite as jarring as the Colossal Titan in S2.

Also, I think that Historia accepts her "job" much more easily than in the manga? I'm pretty sure Levi had to rough her up a bit to motivate her, but not here…

Nothing wrong with season 2’s music (Barricades is straight up my favorite non OP/ED song in the series). I was just saying rap shouldn’t be too surprising given Sawano’s history.

Episode 9: God that was good. There's a lot of buildup and character introspection, but it's all beautifully done. And clunky CG in some shots aside, they did a good job making the crawling titan creepy as hell. Those melted guts falling on the wall… yuck…

…Huh, good thing they didn't stick to Eren's idea of letting himself be eaten. Because that titan probably can't eat anything.

God, yeah that was pure nightmare fuel. It was genuinely horrifying from beginning to end with that scrapped-off face and organs falling on to the wall. D:

I know some people had issue with its weird sliding-crawl movement, but I think it actually made a lot of sense. That sort of movement with the entire body involved in pulling it along the ground ala a snake or a worm makes a lot of functional sense is how something that massive could move itself along. Those long spindly arms wouldn't have had the strength to do it alone.

That was way more gruesome then what I expected that scene to look.

Not that I am complaining persay.

A little something for fun, Film Theory posits the question "What are Titans?" That is, what are they actually made of that can produce the qualities we see in them.

There aren't any manga spoilers mentioned, as the video sticks primarily to the anime and the latest event the host mentions is the Reiss Titan. That said, I listened to the video as I worked, not actually watched, so I can't claim there aren't any spoilery images.

The next few episode titles have been released, as well as some cast listings.

• Episode 10: Friends
• Episode 11: Bystander
• Episode 12: Night of the battle to retake the Wall. (Probably the finale for this half of the season? Then new opening/ending?)

So they finally animated the Crawling Titan.

OH MY FUCKING GOD THE FACE. Holy fucking shit, even though I'm up to date with the manga it's absolutely terrifying.

Episode 10… I never expected to say that, but I almost felt a tiny bit of sympathy for Kenny. A very melancholic and quiet episode, which was so well done I was pretty sure they had extended the flashback compared to the manga… but no, it's 100% faithful. Yet it had a lot more impact.

Oh, and the titans are back at the end of the ep. Long time no see.

This week's episode has been delayed because of Typhoon Trami making landfall in Japan.

It is scheduled to air next week on the 7th.

Hope everyone in the path of the typhoon is going to be okay.

Ah, so that's why it wasn't there… Man, Japan really has rotten luck with its geography. =.="

Episode 11 is a very peaceful one for a change. We see why Historia decided to become Queen, and a flashback about Keith Shadis' relationship with Grisha and Carla. We don't learn a whole lot (except that Keith was the one who sabotaged Eren's equipment for the balance training early on) but we get a bit more insight into several characters' mindsets. And it's a nice transition before the next arc, which will no doubt be much less peaceful.

Episode 12: yet another peaceful episode, with barely any musics to boot… but it's probably the last bit of reprieve we get before the storm.

And fuck that screamer scared me. A bit weird to suddenly flash-forward to that particular scene, though…

Hiatus until April! Time to wail deep inside our souls.

Seems kind of dumb to not announce this ahead of time though. I wonder if the show will just do twelve episodes per year from here on out. We've got enough material already for another season in 2020 and by the time 2021 rolls around the current arc will be done so that can be season 5.

I loved that ending though. I have a question for the Anime only people. I'm curious, what was your interpretation of that scene?

At least their bringing out the seasons at a consistent rate.

Random question:

Does anyone else have trouble taking the advertisements with the Colossal Titan seriously? My brain just automatically goes to "gdi, Bertolt" and remembering the mascot is a sweaty teenager on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

I wonder if they'll do the parody 4koma next season? They didn't do them for Season 2, but brought them back for Season 3. Will we get COMEDY every week, mocking our suffering?
