If leaders of gargantia will have intent press on Red to leave or take any offensive action - my win. If they will ignore it and just continue in negotiation or will decide use him at once. Your win.

Does that sound acceptable?

We already know that chamber doesn't want to waste his remaining energy supply, and considering there aren't any people around, ledo probably wants to stay put. I also don't think there will be much opposition, only fear.
Which little children can easily overcome with curiosity, while the adults will keep a close watch. You know, just in case.
It don't know if energy is a problem. I know that food and drink would have been a problem.
Biggest problem I think is whether the colony is getting his distress signal.
If they are, and if they come to Earth and stir shit up, or if the Hideous are somehow intercepting them, that may prove to be the conflict.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot. What right do they have to complain? Its not like Gargantia is a world-wide organization. Its simply one fleet among many. And the captain should be the most aware of that.
@Tenzen: Deal, if leaders are defined as "those people in the fancy clothes" and the intent is only if they actually plan on doing it, not if it's brought up to be shot down. Plus the loser gets to put a disclaimer in explaining that they lost a bet.
Personally if the guy capable of wiping out a pirate force in seconds is willing to be your allies and requests a cooperative existence and shelter, you give it to him.
Sorry for jumping in late. Just watched the first two episodes. I'd prepared myself for it to be disappointing, but it was actually pretty good. The Hideauze' (???) flower motif was cool.
...yeah, I don't have much to contribute, sorry. Visually it's quite beautiful; I just hope the plot measures up.

The problem is that they aren't sure who he's pointing the cannons at. They might speak a little easier if Ledo told Chamber to do some scouting for a few hours.
Jesus those were some pinpoint sniping.
I consider it my duty to ensure that, should you be surprised by a bear in your library, you will have ample ammunition to beat it to death. So the planet was once frozen, and now everything's defrosted and tropical, eh?
Anyone else see this orbit on collision with the Sun anythime soon?
First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win. They could just be in equatorial waters; there's no reason to assume a monoclimate.
All things considered, equatorial waters are probably the best place to be, assuming that there is no land anywhere. They need fresh water, after all, so it's good to be in a place with plenty of rain.
Also, climate change doesn't mean we're getting closer to the sun. A shift in Earth's orbit would cause a far more dramatic apocalypse than what we're seeing here. A bit closer, and the oceans evaporate, creating enormous clouds, which then start insulating the planet, which then turns it into a hellish inferno.
Precisely what with would happen if the planet moved further out is a bit more of a guessing game, because Mars isn't as similar to Earth as Venus is, but it would still destroy life on earth a good deal more effectively than whatever happened here did.

It's been stated that the climate changes are caused by the sun being weird

Well, the sun can be weird...better to keep it a little vague so that the science buffs can't tear it apart.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.But tearing stuff apart is fun!

I was just throwing out a guess. I had envisioned it as the following process: Earth gets knocked out of its orbit to a more elliptical one -> goes a little further away from the sun, everything freezes -> returns to previous distance, ice melts -> gets closer to the sun, ice caps melt entirely, waterworld (NOW) -> gets closer to the sun, water evaporates, everything goes to hell.
In other words, I was just thinking of the best way that Gen could use this visible emphasis on climate change to produce a 'you're all screwed' scenario. Not like I'd have a reason to expect that or anything...

First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.That's... not how elliptical orbits work.
Also, there's no way what you're suggesting could happen on a small enough timeframe for it to matter to the characters in any way. It would take centuries, at the very shortest, to go from what we see now to the world-ending inferno I outlined before.
Unless the whole thing is taking place abnormally quickly, but if that was the case, there wouldn't have been time for the culture we see on Earth to form.
Or they could be in the polar regions, which are a balmy 40 degrees Centigrade or so when the tropics are approaching the danger zone.
EDIT: Ok, maybe not an elliptical orbit per se, but something varying the distance between the earth and the sun over time.

First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.Did anyone else find this rather underwhelming? I mean, it's a Gen show so I'm sure it'll be slow burn as fuck, but at first impression, I just wasn't into it, I mean, I think the mechs and giant alien starfish are cool and I like the Starship Troopers tone, but nothing really gripped me, I'm hopping more Gen Magic will happen and I'll be involved, I mean, Madoka's first two episodes are pretty mundane too, well, as far as magical girl stuff can be mundane.
@Tenzen: What would the terms be?
