So on Monday morning I got the win 3 brawls quest, and because the brawl was so slow and I didn't want to stay up all night, I figured I'd just leave it until Wednesday.

Well, now it's Wednesday and it turns out we have brawliseum.

Jesus Christ, Blizzard. How about you take your brawliseum and shove it up your nether portal.

I don't know if everyone else just got a lot better with the Boomsday update, but today I had an abysmal run with my win rate being around three out of twenty. I've never been a major ranked buff (hell, I barely make it to the point where you start losing stars each season) but today has been a new low.

[up][up][up] Nnnnno Hearthstone hasn't always been about guaranteed win combos with built in inevitability.

Like, they've been around and come on gone, but I don't remember three (maybe four) OTK decks being viable in standard at the same time. Especially not something like Mecha'thun where you are guaranteed to get the combo since you draw your entire deck as part of it.

I went 2-3 in the free brawl and ran into a great counter for Mecha'thun Priest: a Warrior playing Swamp King Dred on my "go" turn. Of course, that's a Hunter card, so now I'm trying to remember how he got it in his hand.

Huh... do Warriors have any form of random beast/random legendary minion generation?

It was probably the Pinata; Rotface would only summon Dred on the field.

Wow, yeah. That's nuts.

For some reason Emeriss is the random Legendary I see most often - from either Bone Drake or Sindragosa (even with the streamers I watch).

She can be game-winning as a random find.

Two Blood Knights to counter Giggling Inventors and a topdecked Polymorph off a Shifting Scroll.

Today's not a good day to play Arena, but when is it a good one?

I apologize for salty doubleposting, but this...

Ordinary Rank 20 game as I try to struggle out of a swarm of Tier 0 decks. In shows this Mage, plays Astral Rift twice. In that particular order, he plays Vilebrood Skitterer (to get rid of my big Taunt), Ironbreak Owl (to silence my Spikeridged Steed), and Corrosive Sludge (to break my Truesilver). All of them, naturally, came from Astral Rift.

And as the time of this writing, a Discolock finished his quest by turn 4 with Cataclysm, so I think I'm done with Hearthstone for today.

I witnessed a peculiar interaction just now.

I had Bolvar Fireblood on the board, with his divine shield gone and 3 attack. I played Herald Volazj. The new Bolvar was created with 1 attack and then both copies gained 2 attack, as if the new copy had lost its divine shield. I don't think this is supposed to happen.

That is weird. Like it copied the original card and then applied the "lost divine shield" status, which triggered both of their procs.

So, I finally got around to trying the Boomsday puzzles. They're pretty OK, but I so swear they cheat.

Basically they don't respect the order played rules. I swear this has happened in a few of them, but the most recent and notable example.

Vague spoilers for the last "Clear the board" puzzle: You have to kill five Cairnes. I set it up so I had three Ao E deathrattles, ones I'd played after the Cairnes were already on the board, going off once I Ao E. I do so and all my deathrattles trigger first and then the Baines spawn... It just undermines the entire point of these puzzles if you solve them and then the game just acts in a way it's not supposed to and denies you the win.

The "Lethal" puzzle involving an 8/7 hydra relies on you knowing that it can keep taking damage below 0 health. Seriously, Blizz.

Aside: I've found a great deal of joy in playing Kaboom Bot against the Kirin-Tor Mage + Exploding Runes combo.

Just for fun. Decks made only from class cards; which class would win more consistently?

i am pretty sure burn/tempo mage can be built solely by class cards

So no one discussing the 4 new classic cards to replace the HOF class cards? They are all kinda awful. Though that's the point I guess.

Icicle, Mage Spell, 2 Mana: Deal 2 Damage to a minion. If it's frozen, Draw a card.

Tomb of Intellect, Mage Spell, 1 Mana, Add a random mage spell into your hand.

(Strictly Worse Babbling Book)

Call of the Void, Warlock Spell, 1 Mana, Add a random Demon to your hand.

Pilfer, Rogue Spell, 1 Mana, Add a random class card to your hand (From your opponent's class).

(Strictly Worse Swashburglar or Hallucination)

Also there will be an option for new account to start at rank 50, which will be limited only to new accounts. It's entirely optional, and the idea is so new players don't immediately meet seasoned players with insane decks. Like rank 25 to 20, players at those lower ranks can't lose rank.

The classic bundle is changing to give out one of the 6 Legendary Classic Dragons rather than a class legendary. Older players will have the option to buy the bundle again.

I didn't have a chance to look at the announcement. Interesting stuff. The Classic set isn't supposed to have overwhelmingly dominant cards, just to provide options for new players and to establish baseline components of decks.

Except these options are terrible and new players would do well to avoid them. Out of these four, only Icicle has any worth - and I doubt Freeze Mage is a thing to capitalize on its bonus effect.

And what are the odds, it's an Epic. So much for helping new players.
