"So then. I suppose the question becomes- who are you working for? Who's errand are you running in our quaint little neck of the woods? Who's plucking the strings?" His eyes shimmered as he looked from person to person. "Odin? Jack Frost? The Merlin? Your white-court friends?" He licked his lips. "Or maybe the Grims? Maybe Khara?"

The compartment is just as the two of them left it- with David still sound asleep, his cheek pressed up against the window.

"All of them together. Joint operation. Tooth Fairy was there too," Terry didn't say, because even he could recognize that this wasn't the time to mouth off.

"Would it be terribly bad form to start humming There Are No Strings On Me here? Thought so. I mean, there's a vague possibility we might have been roped into this by another player."

"Why should we tell you anything anyway? You're just Kol's ancient, withered flunky."

Aida snorted. "I'm a lot more than Kol's flunky, trust me." He seemed more...amused than annoyed. "Look- I'm getting the sense you lot don't want to be here anymore then we want you here. So maybe, if we tried some mutual cooperation- we could get you out of here."

"I think the only cooperation we want from your...ilk is to step out of our way. Thank you very much."

"See, the last wizard who decided to make a deal with your boss is a little notorious. As in 'made a worse deal with Old Scratch than Spider-Man.'"

"So so much prejudice." The man shook his head- his eyes glowed green as his voice resonated with more of Ramiel then Aida. "I understand of course- between Nicodemus and Tessa our reputation has been dragged back and forth through the mud. I'm not going to pretend I'm some saintly tragic hero with a broody past: but not all of Hell's Legions have the same ends. Some of us like this world with it's infinite pleasures, stupid easily preyed upon humans, and comfy positions of power. The status quo suits Kol just fine. I have a feeling we have, at the end of the day- the same end as a result." His eyes flashed deeper. "Stopping upstarts who would ruin everything with their ambitions and ideals."

"Oh, you are a Conservative Demon. That makes you so much more trustworthy." Tim couldn't really stop himself. Too much time with Kat, it seemed.

Aida snorted. "Given what I usually do with Kol I don't think conservative is at all an apt description." He shrugged. "Look- we like things how they are. People walking around like free Happy Meals, nice and lazy enemies who either can't be bothered or have other fish to fry. And if keeping things the way they are means helping the Council on occasion, or getting our hands dirty making sure dangerous radicals don't get what they want- well, then I'll sing kumbaya with Mister Sunshine myself if that's what it takes. We want to help you- no strings attached, no hidden clause, no soul-loss, because it benefits us in the long run."

"So why don't we all skip to the part where you admit we are the lesser evil and you tell us who sent you? Kol already has a guess, just confirm it, maybe lend us some aid in fighting her- and everyone can win here."

"Don't trust him." Katelyn warned- her gun still raised. "Kol and his pets only care about themselves."

"Exactly my point." Aida shoot back.

Terry silently wondered why "What you're doing benefits literal demons" was supposed to be persuasive.

Tim wet his lips. "See, here is the crux of your statement. I don't believe you. At all. Because saying 'Demons lie' is like saying 'The Sky is blue', 'The North Pole is cold' and 'American Beer is terrible'. So no matter how nice you try to clad it in rhetoric or sweet words...you surround us with an army of flunkies. You ambush us without provocation *twice* and now you say you want to help us? I do not think so."

Tim turned back toward his car. "You want to show good faith? Get our of our way. Else this entire conversation is nothing but a waste of time and you are more the fool for thinking otherwise."

"See, it's a bit of a catch-22 isn't it? We tell you what we're doing, you don't like it,suddenly we're neck-deep in attack dogs. You approve and suddenly we're in business."

"So how about this? We stay out of your way, you stay out of ours, nobody gets hurt and no Accords get broken."

Aida's eyes swung between them. "Fine. Have it your way. I just hope she's paying you handsomely enough to die." He stepped back and his giant wings- dark as the sky- flourished from his back. "Tell Zoe I'll see her on the battlefield- I owe her for Pulau Ujong."

His great wings flicked- and he was sent soaring up into the air- there was a heavy growling...as the lycans withdrew.

Katelyn finally lowered her gun. "What in the name of Hel's frozen tits was that about?"

"Posturing. Show of strength. A way to manipulate our actions and choices by demonstration the force he commands. In short: Gunboat Diplomacy." Tim said almost bored. But as he turned further toward the car a thoughtful frown came upon his face...Unlikely but

"I have no earthly clue. I mean, outside of the nice feeling of knowing that the shady Viking and his fallen friends have no idea what we're doing here."

"The 'She' has me a little worried though. Maybe it's time to hit the books when we get to Rome. Bound to be an archive there."

"While we're here, let's make sure to do some stuff that looks important, but has no bearing on our actual job. Put those expense accounts to work and confuse Kol's gang a bit."

"I fully intend to simply have a long list of non-sensical errands for a very expensive courier service."

And the departure of their newfound enemy before M could try to betray who they worked for or even work out a deal. He... Relaxed? He put his arms down and leaned heavy on his walking stick, supposedly doing some deep breathing but was actually hyperventilating.

"So.... We couldn't, like, tell them we were reluctantly working for Loki because.... Why? I mean, we didn't need... To tell them the job right? I mean, I get they're bad news, but why antagonize them?"

"I'm happier the less information Mr. Bad News has on us, myself."

"And there was no guarantee he'd let us go. Or that he wouldn't sic the lycans on us."

"The Fallen can lie, after all."

"Because they are Fallen. Demons with a capital D. You don't give a Fallen anything. They are a as a rule untrustworthy and backstabbing, no matter what they claim. Their nominal leader even broke the Accords in a pretty harsh fashion a while back." Tim explained.

"And creatures like that, People who willingly became a host to a Fallen are, as far as I am concerned, nothing that warrants any ounce of respect. Denarians, Necromancers, Outsider Cultists and all that ilk are nothing but the worst scum of the supernatural world. I'd rather deal with the Queen of Air and Darkness than show these...things any." He took a breath. "People like that claim they are so superior and worthy of awe when they are nothing but mouthpieces to the beings they Host, fed some power in turns. They are lackey's and expect to be treated like royalty for it. I can pity those who have been subsumed by it, but those who entered a 'partnership?'. To hell with them."

Katelyn was frowning as she holstered her gun- reaching over to press a finger to M's lips before he said Loki's name, but otherwise letting the conversation keep going.

"We've got more practical issues to deal with know- if we weren't before we are definitely on Kol's radar." She tapped her ear as she looked around- Lycans and their superhearing might still be about.

"I'm more curious to who he thinks we are working for. Does anyone know a Zoe?"

Tim sighed deeply. "I might have a theory." He said reluctant.

"Only Zoe I can think of off the top of my head is a Roman saint from around the time of Diocletian, and something tells me it isn't her."

"Only a Sylph a know named Zoe. She's one of my favourites, she and her friends play Magic: The Gathering with me. I doubt the Sylphs are involved though."
