Some news from Witch Hunt.

I promised on twitter some news so here are the latest progress thus far.

Season 3: 100% done Season 4: approximately 65%

Due to how save states are always screwed at some point (especially the mini game high score), we decided to postpone Season 3 patch and simply pack it with Season 4 once the latter is done. As such, our next release will provide a full translation of Rose Guns Days season 1-4.

We actually got some opportunities to work on Season 4 during winter break, although as usual, Chrono is busy with his work so his translation periods are spurts rather than continuous periods. We cannot provide any ETA since the last 35% might require more time than we expect and we will have to edit the drafts.

Suffice to say, we are confident it will take less time than before.

We're almost there. /o/

Rose Guns Days English Translation progess: 100% (this include Season 3 and Last season).

We are currently in the editing phase, and it is approximately around 60%. Unfortunately, we can't assure an accurate ETA. Thanks for your patience.

And hopefully I will feel less lonely when the full patch is out. evil grin

What about the 'I found it boring' excuse?

Rejected!

Err, well, Season 3 and 4 have a lot of improvements compared to the first half of the story if you ask me (especially the 1949 arc), but if you disliked Season 1 and 2 there's not much we can do about it. =[ I'd still tell you to give it a try, who knows.

(… wow, how much time has it been since someone else posted in this thread? Ô.Ô)

It has definitely taken a while and this thread is certainly dead but I finished Last Season just now. Just, wow. Gotta applaud Ryukishi. It's not his best but it's a worthy one alright. Although the Last Episode felt rather anti-climatic by the end. Did Alan die? How does Keith react to that? How does he react to finding out he was wrong all this time? What's with Battler's sister? Was it just misinformation or did someone(probably Meijuu) do something to her? Will Butler ever smile again? ;_; I suppose leaving things not fully clarified is a Ryukishi thing at this point. Still bothers me though, Umineko made it feel more satisfying.

Of the main conflicts shown in the series, I prefer the fight against Father Caleb the most. The Soy Sauce war was great in its own way but I cared less for that than the Wandering Dogs' development(RIP Oliver ;_;). The one against Gabriel felt too dragged out, and I was kind of looking forward to 1950 and Jeanne's appearance leading to a new conflict instead of simply continuing where 1949 left off. Hell, I wish Jeanne had more time to develop as a character and successor to Rose, and she wasn't as charming as Leo, Zel, or Alan(On second thought, Alan could've used some more developing at the end of Last Season too). She was still fun though. Her interactions with Leo was great.

It confuses me how unknown RGD is. It's more accessible than Higurashi and Umineko is in terms of story and lack of complexity. RGD wasn't as complex but it had a lot more going on on the surface level.

A sequel Season 5 about Jeanne's Madam days or Julie would be pretty nice.

Yeah, the ending is frustrating as hell. In Umineko it was justified by the idea of letting readers look for the truth, but here I don't know the reason. I suspect it was more an issue of time constraints than a deliberate choice (Ryukishi had fallen sick in the middle of writing, which had postponed the releasing of Last Season a few weeks), but I may be wrong.

As for the "lack of complexity" I… wouldn't say that. The story isn't complex in the sense When They Cry was, but it sure is in different ways. It gave me a lot of food for thought on the questions on nation, culture, immigration, or democracy, for example. There's a lot of nuance (a lot of which is lost in the manga, sadly), and on some parts I still can't quite tell if I agree or disagree with the author or the characters.

[up]I wouldn't necessarily label those as 'complex' but I agree that they're very thought provoking. As someone ignorant about that sorta stuff, it was fascinating. Educational, even. It's why I found the Soy Sauce War to be satisfactory. The idea of using food and culture as a weapon is pretty cool.

The more I think about RGD and its ending, the more frustrated I am. I didn't feel it quite as much right after I finished it but that ending really was bad. I don't like how they came to the conclusion that Rose was ill-fit to be the Madam. She got shot and put out of commission for a while and that's perfectly understandable. It made everyone realize that Rose was human as well and that's nice and all but that aside, she's actually been leading Primavera quite fine. Not necessarily as a mafia group but as a group of people looking to achieve peace and prosperity to the Japanese people.

The finale was great with the all-star cast and all but I felt that weakened the actual plot and I didn't care as much about the whole Gabriel-was-actually-behind-everything. RGD really should've had 5 seasons. The entirety of Season 4 could be about the Gabriel arc as it was in the actual Final Season, but remove Jeanne and maybe the all-star cast's appearance and have them appear in the theoretical 5th Final Season instead. As the person who will become Madam, Jeanne deserves an entire episode and story to herself.

So, just earlier today I was at my local Kinokuniya store(which isn't really local at all when you think about it) and strangely enough I found a copy of Rose Guns Days' manga. The first volume. Translated into English. Wow.

It was kinda weird and I couldn't believe it for a second or two but that was pretty nice. Was expensive though(Like everything else at Kino's) so I didn't buy it.

I also found a few volumes(thick ones too) of Umineko EP 2's manga version. If it was the last volume of EP 8 I would buy in an instant but sadly it wasn't.

So it seems Rose Guns Days is gonna have

a) a stageplay adaptation

b) an Updated Re-release with an additional story (released on the same day as Trianthology). I don't think it will be a Season 5 (though that would be great), but I hope it will at least fill some of the holes left by the ending of Season 4. Because, yeah, as [up][up] there are really some things that left me bitter in S4.
