It has been a long time yes. We've made friends, learned lessons, gained weight, lost weight, and other things that come with the passage of time. I don't know, growing old???

Also you know it boy i'm all about that #nostarlife

Bloody threads dropping off watch lists

Wander, if you go to Tokyo, I'd recommend going to Odaiba and seeing the Fuji TV station and Rainbow Bridge. Watch the Myotismon arc of Adventure before you do so, because it's set in Odaiba and it's really amazing seeing the set pieces in person. The science museum there is also fun, it's a bit annoying getting around on foot though. Hiring a bike for that part would be a good idea, since you like cycling. We only hired bikes for Kyoto, but it was a really nice way to get around.

I was only in Tokyo for 3 days at the start of my trip and an overnight stay on my way out of Japan, so I don't know what I could recommend for a week. Asakusa Shrine is very nice, and there are markets there for souvenir shopping and nice street food. I had the best karaage at a stall there.

Oh, of course, Akihabara on a weekend is great for seeing all the nerd shit. The scale is ridiculous, we walked through a bit of an underground to enter the main district so exiting that and being surrounded by buildings of electronics and hobby stores was really cool. On the weekends during certain hours - about afternoon - the streets are closed to motor traffic so you can freely walk around the whole district. There are lots of arcades there (but most of them are claw machines, Japan loves those) if you're a fan of Sega there are three Sega arcades buildings in this district alone.

edit: also, I'm taking a break from the forums again to focus on studying. Not sure how long I'll be gone for, I'm only halfway through the semester but I am behind so I don't want to leave things as late as I did last semester.

[up][up]Thank you for the recommendations!

Odaiba, and specifically Fuji TV, was on the agenda.

I didn't think about renting a bike, but that could be a good idea. I wonder how easy it is to find a rental in my size - I'm over 6 ft tall. Are bike rentals a normal thing?

What's the name of the science museum? I'd like to find out how much of it is in English, and what the charge for it is, if any.

Meiji shrine was on the list, but I'll add Asakusa.

I'm thinking maybe I should find a hotel at Akihabara to focus on.

I'm DEFINITELY a Sega fan.

Good luck! Take those academia chips and eat them!

unrleated: i am in a class that is equating same sex marriage laws to the atom bomb. If we let gays fuck that means straight people will stop making babies and fuck off. He's also falling into the AIDS kills the gays though. Oh he's also islamophobia

He plays Prager U clips. This is all the tip of the iceberg.

I hate my University.

I had a class in college where an openly gay man gave a speech against legalizing gay marriage.

Well, it does. It also kills straight people tho, so It's not exactly much of an argument.

[up]Nobody eve thinks about the gay people who don't want to commit and are losing the perfect excuse.

Nothing wrong with being afraid of commitment but channeling it into wanting no one to be married is a pretty far extreme.

Making gay people the scapegoat for AIDS has always been dumb and will continue to be dumb but guess what? Dumb people will cling to any excuse to hate gay people.

It's amazing how committed some people are to hating gays, given that nothing gay people do has negative impact on them*. How do they even muster the energy to continually oppose them at every step when there's nothing to aggravate them is baffling.

I guess some people really just want to hate somebody and anything that lets them label a group as different from themselves and therefore a good target, will do.

*except maybe hurricanes, but science is still out on this one.

Day one of vacation: Decided to quit the coasters in favor of floating on an inner tube due to lack of sleep the last day or so.

Glasses lost. Wore shorts and even briefly no shirt for the first time in I don't even know how long.

Fuck man. I hope you can enjoy yourselves without that ruining things. I lost my glasses in a family outing once, felt blind the whole way through.

Nice

The new coaster at Cedar Point is pretty sweet. You cannot tell what is coming at all thanks to the ride being so obscured in front of you. It may even be better than the Raptor.

Having the night off study because I finished my mid semester! Also I'm sick. Great timing.

I didn't think about renting a bike, but that could be a good idea. I wonder how easy it is to find a rental in my size - I'm over 6 ft tall. Are bike rentals a normal thing?

I'm six seven, and I managed to get a decent sized bike. Although I think I'm also just used to just putting up with the bike size. We only rented bikes in Kyoto, but we got the idea because we saw lots of rental bikes chained up at the various temples and whatnot we visited. Not sure how common it'd be in Tokyo, but the subway system is super convenient anyway. I think it'd make getting around Odaiba much easier if it's available though.

Miraikan. 620 yen a ticket for adults, my only gripe is that it is kind of out of the way, but since you're a fan of Digimon Adventure I think you'll get a kick out of Odaiba's various sites that were used in the show. Seeing them in person was surreal for me.

Akihabara has three Sega arcade buildings, with 5-6 floors each I believe. A lot of the machines are unfortunately claw machines and the like (with skeevy prizes) but between the three there is still a bunch of games to play.
