PPGZ aired for a long time in Cartoon Network Latin America; I think even now they show it very very early in the morning at times. They even got everyone from the original PPG Mexican dub back, except Buttercup's voice actress (by the way, Bubbles' voice actress did a sublime job voicing Miyako in a way both reminiscent and different from Original Bubbles).

Sadly, it isn't a very good show, and the Western adaptation (not the dub itself) made it even worse by shafting the rather good Japanese music, dumbing down the dialogue, and adding cartoony sound effects everywhere even if they didn't fit. The show has some really good ideas, but overall, it's very toothless. The original pilot, for instance, had a lot of the edgy action of the original, and it'd have been great if they had kept it, but they ended up with something that was just too kiddy, something the original Girls never were despite the appearances.

It'd have been great if they had subverted the Magical Girl tropes the same way the original show did with the Western superhero ones, but alas.

We also got the Stitch anime, BTW. I sometimes watch a random episode or two before going to work. It isn't really any worse than the Lilo and Stitch American TV series, but the franchise never was that good after the original movie anyway.

They didn't even bother getting the original voice actors for the dub. How can you not get Rob Paulsen or Kevin Michael Richardson, who'll be in fricken everything!?

If the wiki is to be believed, the English dub was done in Canada. That's why there were no USA voice actors there.

YMMV on that, I preffer the PUSA dub, much less of a gag dub, and much less problem with what they can show to kids ad what not

Nothing wrong with a Gag Dub. Those are the best kinds.

Acting in dubs takes a much different approach to acting and a much different skill set than just regular acting. Plus, it was recorded in another part of the continent and the producers of that dub didn't know the cast from the original Powerpuff Girls.

Well 4Kids Meowth >>>>>>>>> JP Meowth for sure. JP Meowth sounds awful in comparison. But 4Kids' xenophobic practices were really stupid.

ITZ A DONUT.

[up][up][up] Well, for comedy shows, yeah. In action shows, it ruins them.

Eh, I can't watch and enjoy something if it's far too overly serious about itself, so if you ask me, the more comedic elements, the better.

Especially if it's an action show. There is a reason Jackie Chan became so popular (awesome stunts aside).

Did Powerpuff Girls really have the extensive kind of continuity that would require a reboot? Disaster/villain scheme/Giant monster/Domestic Drama...Powerpuffs solve the problem, day is saved, the end.

What, is it a voice actor problem? Poor Man's Substitute, solved. Keep it simple stupid.

I don't think it's an actual reboot. Sounds like a continuation of the old stuff with a different art style to me, so far.

I'm afraid I've lost the specifics. Is it a definite at least that this is actually happening, yet?

It was announced by Cartoon Network.

And since this isn't a reboot, perhaps we should get a title change or start a new thread for this.

This post on Topix goes into much detail about the reboot supposedly with Butch Hartman in charge of the animation, and the reboot airing on the HUB in the US. It seems a little bit too in-depth for a fan to know all these details to me, but you can decide for yourself.

Personally, I love PPG and would hate to see it screwed by a sequel or reboot. I love the animation styles of both PPG and Butch Hartman, but I wouldn't want them to mix. It's kind of a keep your chocolate out of my peanut butter thing... wink

Because it would tank harder than the Stitch anime did in America.
I watched that channel pretty regularly then, and I don't recall even a single ad for it. If it tanked, it was self-sabotage.
It was definitely sabotage. 9am time slot on a weekday with little to no advertising? If Cartoon Network did the same with PPGZ, yes it would tank. If they actually try to promote it and give it a reasonable time slot, who knows?

To be fair, the American animated series wasn't exactly A-grade material. Wasn't bad, but was hardly what I'd call "great" or even "consistently good."

Yeah, the franchise as a whole took a huge nosedive after the quite good first movie.

[up][up] The show was lackluster, but you know what it didn't have? Stitch leaving the planet and his family because Lilo went to college, negating the lesson of ending of the movie and even the show which the anime is in continuity with supposedly.

More on topic slightly, Here's Kevin Darts tumblr. It dosen't say anything new about the special, but it has great art.
