Justice Avengers: Dawn over New York

"Alright, I'll start with this Owl guy," Rocket said to Carter. "Who or where do I go to find info on the old bird?"

Warren watched Reyes go then turned his attention to Xavier.. "Do you think it's wise, professor? Training that child? If we take on too many non-mutant students, it could limit resources for our original focus."

"I'd advise you not to speak that way, Archangel," scolded Professor X. "What kind of person would I be if I imposed such boundaries? Especially considering that boy may very well need our help."

"What...do you mean?"

"When I came to meet him, I felt his mind, only for a moment. There was a most definite presence behind it, attached by the base of the brain. I'll admit, I felt a certain...trepidation facing it. As if I was reaching towards the blade of an active lawn trimmer."

Jean looked away. "He did say that he, or more likely his armour, put a telepath that searched his mind into a coma."

"Then he's a threat to us?" questioned Archangel. "To the students? To the humans?"

"All the more reason for us to help him any way we can," said Professor X firmly. "The boy is not conditioned towards criminal urges, quite the opposite. He's just a hopeful lad who was saddled with a powerful weapon he has trouble mastering. And as we all know, it is not the weapon but its wielder that commits deeds good or evil. It is our perogative to help him put his armour to the best possible use, and to do so with ease." He looked to the horizon, "Who knows? Perhaps some time in the future, we could a bright paragon of a hero in him...to bring humans and mutants together."

"I'd suggest the lower east side. In as dark and grimy an alley as possible."

After a while and as he got towards District X, Blue Beetle would probably find Rogue running towards the charity event if he were to look down. She was definitely not as fast on foot as Storm and Blue Beetle would be in the air though she was a rather good at running compared to the average non-mutant person her age.

The only thoughts in Rogue's mind, however, were how she wished her mutation was Super-Speed, instead of... what she currently has.

As the Blue Beetle was flying toward the charity event Khaji Da let him know that Rogue was heading in that direction as well. He adjusted his flight to bring him to her, and gently landed next to her. As he did so his wings disappeared and he began to jog next to her.

"Hey Rogue. How's it going."

"Huh?" Rogue looked to find the Blue Beetle next to her... Was he jogging at the speed she was running?!

"I'm tryin' to get to the charity on time..." Rogue replied to Blue Beetle. Where it was being held had been quite a ways from Rogue's apartment, and she wasted plenty of time with Stark and the Raccoon.

Jaime paused for a second, a little nervous.

"Do you want a lift?"

Rogue stopped running and looked at Blue Beetle, as if processing his question... Though she looked more like she trying to recover some energy from the running than anything else.

"Um, I could use a lift, yeah," Rogue sighed and nodded to the Blue Beetle, noting the existence of his armor again. "You're covered up completely, after all."

If it weren't someone who were covered up completely, she would not agree for fear of their safety, but so far every time he's shown up, he's been covered up with that armor of his.

"Got it," Rocket said. "I'll start looking tomorrow, as Bruce Wayne's doin' a charity event right here in Mutant Town, and I don't want to be caught up in something in case something disastrous happens there."

A beat.

"By the way, I checked up on currency exchanges in your country comparatively to other nation on your planet and other planets was well, and I believe the best prices would be.......a 100 quid for each low life I bag, 250 for those higher up the food chain in a gang, and finally 500 for the gang leader himself. My rates are negotiable, but just be glad I don't charge by the hour."

The Blue Beetle carefully picked Rogue up so he was carrying her bridal style and flew into the air.

"Is this ... is this fine, or should I put you down?"

Rogue looked surprised at Blue Beetle as he picked her up and flew off carrying her.

"Er, yeah, it's fine, j-just don't get fresh with me," Rogue eventually said, not used to being this close to a person. "o-or drop me!"

She wasn't going to demand he drop her, since she didn't want to have to run, but she was definitely not used to this. At least he asked first unlike the raccoon.

Jaime gave her a soft smile.

"Don't worry, you can trust me. I promise."

The Blue Beetle flew in as smooth a manner as possible, being careful not to go to fast. He landed in a empty park a good five blocks away from the event.

"I would have brought you all the way there, but it probably isn't a good idea for you to be seen getting a lift from a superhero. I ... I should probably put you down. Sorry."

He gently put her down so she was standing on her feet and took three steps back.

"Would you mind turning around? I'm going to get out of the armor and go there as a civilian, but people find it disgusting when I transform around them."

"Alright," Rogue turned around to face away from Blue Beetle. So she was going to end up knowing who the Blue Beetle was? At least, she will finally know what he looks like underneath there.

"Just tell me when you are finished," Rogue stated, looking at the park in general. Considering what she heard of the Reach Scarab he has, she'd probably throw up at the sight of his transformation.

The transformation occurred in a manner so disgusting and horrifying that it cannot be explained. In the Blue Beetle's place stands a good looking teenager of Hispanic descent wearing normal clothing.

"You can turn around now. I'm Jaime Reyes, it's nice to talk to you without being all dressed up."

Rogue turned around to see a rather attractive Hispanic man her age. Rogue blushed a bit while looking at him. However, she knew that she couldn't get too close to him because of her mutation. She was rather embarrassed at her own thoughts.

"Um, just so you know," Rogue began to try to explain. "I-I don't like being touched."

"That's why I reacted the way I did around the raccoon," Rogue continued, hoping Jaime would not think any less of her about her... mutation. "It's... hard to explain, but like Storm, I'm a mutant..."

Rogue trailed off... This was usually when baseline humans tended to start treating her like crap.

After a nice walk Ivan found his way into Mutant Town, and well, if it had changed from the last time he was there it had been for worse. He started wondering if bringing the faceless man would have been a better idea as he fiddled nervously through the contents of his jacket, a recorder, a box of cigarettes, a small lighter, a notepad and a pen. Finding the box and lighter he pulled one cigarette, put it on his lips, lit it and took a drag hoping for it to calm him. But anyways, he had reached the site of the charity drive and even if it hadn't started a crowd had already began to form and he soon found himself in the middle of it.

Jaime blushed at seeing Rogue look at him while blushing.

''Wow. She's ... wow."

Jaime, you're acting weird again.

"Listen Rouge, it's alright. You don't have to tell me anything else if you don't feel comfortable. I won't touch you without your permission, and I don't care that you're a mutant. You can trust me, I promise."

"Alright," Rogue frowned a bit. This was getting awkward, especially concerning her condition. "Um, we should probably get to the event."

Rogue began walking towards where the charity was being held, "Are ya comin'?"

"Yeah, yes I am."

Jaime caught up to her walked beside her as they went to the charity event.

"Hey Rogue. Here is my number in case you ever need a superhero or some help, or if you want to talk or hang out or something."

As he said this to her a large blush came over his face and he extended a hand holding a long strip of paper with his phone number on it.

"Oh! Thanks for reminding me!" Rogue took the number and pulled out her cellphone. She began typing the number and Jaime's name into the cellphone.

"I, err, called up that guy who gave me his business card..." Rogue began to explain, smiling nervously. "Apparently, he's Tony Stark, and he's invited me and my friends to watch an upcoming rocket launch."

"Though, I ain't sure how to, umm, pass you off as not being the Blue Beetle..." Rogue frowned a bit. "I ain't sure when the rocket launch is, but he says he'll call me back when he finds out."

Rogue wondered if she should talk about the offer concerning the place to stay to Jaime, but that might have a different meaning to him, so she decided not to do so. Though, her conversation with Jaime gives her a good idea on making sure Stark doesn't have an ulterior motive.

The District X community center had seen better days. At least, that's what an inattentive observer might idly commenta fter taking a stroll through it. The truth was that the creaky old gymnasium and associated rooms had been built and established during a particularily bad string of days in Mutant Town, and things had just got worse and worse as time went by. Still, tonight the venerable old building looked good, or at least as good as it was ever going to get. Limousines, New York and Gotham's upper crust stepping out onto an (admittedly rather faded) red carpet. Bruce Wayne, of course, had no need to slip into a formal dress- when didn't he wear a formal suit,

"And Master Wayne is happy with the security?" That was Alfred of course, standing beside him with an unreadable expression on his face.

"Yes, Alfred. Thank you." Of course, there had to be security at an event like this, considering the neighbourhood he was in. And so beige-suited men carrying heavy assault rifles stood around every corner, every concievable chokepoint that could potentially be used as a terrorist attack. And Bruce did not even know if that was enough. Mutant genetics were still poorly understood; but what was known was that superpowered mutants generally gavebirth to other mutants, sometimes with radically different powers. Nobody had ever bothered to take an accurate census of superpower distribution in the area... who knew what enemies Wayne Co. might have out here?

Well, Bruce thought to himself, shaking the hand of yet another wealthy investor and coridally ushering her into the main hall, whatever happened happened. And for a man with a flair for the theatrical, it was better to fail spectacularily than nothing else.

Who knew what would happend tonight? His guests were on their way...

Jaime smiled, entranced by her smile.

Cute.

What is wrong with you?

Rogue frowning brought him back to his senses.

"He invited you to bring you're friends, right? Couldn't you just say that we are friends?"

"Hmm, I could..." Rogue frowned, thinking it over. "But the guy's smart, so he might see through the ruse."

"He knew the raccoon was a real one, for one thing," Rogue sighed and shook her head. "Either way, I just hope the launch ain't on Saturday, since that's when I scheduled that appointment with the Institute."

"I feel it really might be able to help me," Rogue explained to Jaime. "With my power."

"I'm going back there on Saturday myself. Do you wanna go together?"

"Umm, err... sure, if ya want." Rogue was blushing again. "But, I'd have to get a bus ride though, unless your plannin' to carry me all the way there."

Rogue chuckled a bit, rubbing her head nervously.

The strange robot above the city had taken off yet again, seemingly just flying around, though it wasn't doing a very good job of it, faltering and weaving about in the air as though unused to the currents. After a bit though, it came to another stop, and abruptly shot upwards into the sky, higher and higher, until after a bit, it had practically vanished from sight.

It didn't stay gone long, though. After a few seconds, the robot reappeared, but now it's flight was even less controlled. It was tumbling, pinwheeling end over end, limbs flailing wildly as it seemed to be trying to regain control as it was falling out of the sky, right over the mutant district.
