Accepted, though I would've preferred it if you ran the "espionage commander" bit by me, first, though I would've probably oked it, since it makes sense for a former Night's Watchmen and thief to be that...

Hmm interesting.

I love A Song of Ice and Fire and I'm very interested in this RP... but I'm having a tad of a hard time thinking up a character. Is there any kind of character that you need right now? Some sort of role that needs filling?

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

Well, you could play one of the King of Winter's sons, or create a general, of sorts, for the King-Beyond-The-Wall, or play the Night King's right hand man or executioner. All of those are roles I'd like filled, and it would make my job a lot easier if someone else made and played those characters so that I can focus on the plot.

Hmmm I can make one of each of those, if you like.

I'd prefer to keep players to one character, two at most.

Hmm... Then a right hand man for the Night Watch since it's the party with the least people on it.

If you need more just tell me.

Hmh. I've basically been putting off creating a character so I could see which faction needs members the most. My first idea was a wildling, but right now, it's looking more like the NW needs more people (don't they always?).

How frequently would participation be required? I'd like to give it a try, but I couldn't guarantee every day or anything. Also, how long would each entry be expected to be?

I'd imagine that it wouldn't need to be too long. Just not too short. Tell a unique story, and once you finish it, don't try to elongate it. That's how I usually do my apps.

@Born: Honestly, it's more important, to me, for each person to play a character they want to be playing than to have balanced sides as I can always create NPCs to balance out the sides, so just go ahead and make a character you want to make on the side you want to make him/her on, and let me concern myself with balancing the sides.

@Laura: Honestly, it depends on the game for how fast it goes. I've participated in games where it's gone fast enough that you'd practically be having to hate the post button immediately after posting just to keep up, but I've also been in games where people would post maybe every other day in short bursts. However, I'd expect this to, and hope it will, have at least daily posting, though not necessarily. In every part, so the Watch might be going faster than the other two groups, for awhile, but then that dies down, for a bit, and the Willing go fast. Do you get what I'm saying?

As for how long your sign up needs to be, it needs to be as long as it takes to tell your characters backstory in full, and give me a sense of the character.

Ugh, just got some bad news. Due to recent developments, I will most likely not be able to access the Internet from about July 7 through the rest of the month. So someone else can rent Brizzie while I'm gone. waii

Or she could be injured the whole time. It really depends on what happens in the early moments of the RP.

  • Name: Robin Hornwood
  • Titles: Right hand of the Night King
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 34
  • Faction: Night's Watch
  • Equipment: Black Armor, black cloak, a sturdy steel shield and a bastard sword.
  • Appearance: Tall, broad shouldered and strong. Robin has reddish brown hair reaching to his shoulders and honest looking brown eyes. Has slightly beyond average looks though those are marred by his solemn mood which means that it's not that common for him to smile.
  • Personality: Robin is a very honorable and loyal man. Though he disliked the move of Jorah into crowning himself Night King, he still stuck with him out of loyalty for an old friend and to his Lord Commander of the Night Watch. While a first look at his impressive stature and physique might make people assume otherwise, Robin still remains the younger son of a Noble House of the North and received a good education to match, not to mention being trained in the arts of battle by a Weapon's Master. Robin is good at making things happen and taking matters into his own hands... though one of his weaknesses is the need for direction. He might be good at directing a battle but he could never maneuver a war. The bigger the picture, the less efficient he will become. A follower born, he will do his best to accomplish the ambition of those he follows, since he tends to lack his own.
  • History: The youngest son of Lord Hornwood, Robin had the chance to meet Jorah before and after he tried to steal the Crown of Winter. Having many elder brothers, Robin knew since a young age that he would never inherit the House of his father and might never raise into greatness. Thus he sought accomplishment into what he was able to do and thus always worked himself hard in his studies, in the training yard and in training his body. Once he turned twenty he decided to join the Night Watch out of his own volition, deciding to make his life worth in service to the entire North. In the Watch he became quick friends with Jorah Snow since he met the bastard of the Dreadfort in his childhood. A man with no ambition, he was attracted to Jorah who had plenty and more importantly, had a use for him. Jorah thus became his best friend... and once he became his Lord Commander, his loyalty to the man only increased. Robin is not afraid to voice his opinions in full to Robin, though at the end of the day he will do most anything that is ordered of him. However, there is one weak link in his loyalty to the Night King. Robin has strong mixed feelings towards the King's newfound wife. Robin barely tolerates the woman who to his opinion made Jorah and those following him break their vows and turn their own realm against them. However, it is left to speculate if this is the whole reason of his dislike, or if there are others such as jealousy or lust.
  • Strengths: Very strong and resilient. Educated and smart. Skilled fighter with an emphasis in defense by his might shield. Loyal.
  • Weaknesses: Cannot handle the big picture, so he needs guidance. His feelings towards the Night Queen. Is a big target. Won't fight Hornwood men.
  • Other information: None.

Accepted.

Also, I'm probably going to create the discussion thread tomorrow, and start the RP by Friday. I'll keep the sign ups open at least a week after that, but I may keep them open longer, depending on how long it takes to get the ball rolling on the plot.

  • Name: Artos Harvis.
  • Titles: None. Former Lord of House Harvis.
  • Gender: Male.
  • Age: 40.
  • Faction: Wildling, nominally. Artos considers himself to serve the interests of the Kingdom of the North and would defect if he could.
  • Equipment: Two nondescript broadswords, a dagger and a buckler shield. The second sword is just a spare; he doesn't dual-wield.
  • Appearance: Medium build, grey eyes and graying, short-cropped hair. Though once good-looking, years spent beyond the Wall haven't done any favors for his appearance. He looks windburnt, has several unexceptional scars and is probably missing a toe or two. Artos wears typical wildling furs most of the time, but prefers more dignified clothing whenever possible (which is never).
  • Personality: Artos has a strong sense of morality, tempered by a pragmatic willingness to sometimes take extreme measures for the greater good. He also has the unfortunate tendency to conflate "the greater good" with his own personal interests. He's more infatuated with the "idea" of good rather than led by compassion or justice. Artos lacks any sort of introspectiveness towards his own actions and thinks himself a somewhat better man than he is, both in regards to morality and capability. In general, he is personable, assertive and competent, and does a surprisingly good job of disguising his egomania and lack of regard for other people from others. Artos would like nothing more than to be the hero to save the North and end the reign of the Night King.
  • History: Born the second son of a Northern noble house, Artos distinguished himself from early childhood by being superior to his older brother in pretty much every possible way, or at least faking it so convincingly that it made no difference. He was well-regarded and popular both in his own household and the whole wide North. Artos's brother was a conflux of various flaws and proved to be a terrible ruler once he attained his lordship, so Artos enacted a plot to murder his brother and take over the reins himself, for the good of all. Although he was successful, his own wife got wind of his deeds and exposed him, leaving the disgraced Artos to King Tristifer's justice. Despite never really seeing any wrongdoing in his actions, Artos elected to "redeem himself" by joining the Night's Watch. (After the unlucky deaths of a few successive heirs, House Harvis is all but extinct.) Artos settled in to his role as "protector of the realm" quickly enough and was well on his way to becoming a respected figure in the Watch when Jorah declared himself the Night's King. Artos opposed the perversion of the Watch's mission and accused Jorah of murdering the previous Lord Commander (seemingly with no trace of irony), subsequently escaping the purges by defecting over to the wildlings. Since then, he's been trying his best to entrench himself within the wildling community (which has involved more than a few headhunts and assassination attempts) and turn King Joramun's people against the Night's King. Some have accepted him, some haven't.
  • Strengths: Above-par swordfighting, plotting and survival skills. Well-learned, especially in comparison with wildlings.
  • Weaknesses: Arrogance and a certain degree of recklessness. A complete, barely-hidden lack of respect for wildling culture and the King of Winter. A number of minor physical ailments, including a noticeable limp. As a defector, Artos would be executed south of the Wall and has a kill-on-sight order out for him among the Watch. He also has a dangerous number of enemies among the wildlings.
  • Other information: Artos opposes the Wildling alliance with the Night's King and will speak out against it at every opportunity. He also holds out some mild hope that by helping the Starks, he can receive a royal pardon and a chance to restore his house from ruin.

(I tried to be clever here. I figured that a character with ties to all three factions would maximize the number of potentially interesting interactions. Also, I'd certainly like for this guy to be on Joramun's "team" so to speak, but I'm not sure how that would gel with the latter's hatred for the Night's Watch?)

Two things I'd like to ask about the new applicant.

First, can my character, the Right-Hand Man of Jeremy (or whatever his name is) and commander of the Espionage group in the Wilding, not like your character? He's a pretty powerful fella, but not very violent.

And second, how long ago in RP time did your character get kicked out of the Night Watch? Could it be about a year ago? I kinda want to RP a event where my character calls out your character for not being loyal to the Wilding. My character's also a Ex-Night Watch fella too, so he could have heard about your character.

[up]1. Oh, absolutely. Hate away.

2. Hmmmm. I was actually presuming the defection would have happened almost all the way back ten years ago. It feels rather unduly long, but kind of necessary with the canonical timeline of events being what it is. However, I see no reason for your character not to question the loyalty of mine no matter how long he's been with the wildlings.
