Alright Tiamatty, where's the magic wishing well you used to make this happen and where can I find it?

Seriously though, this is great to hear.

[up][up] She's mostly known for her poetry. This is going to be her first time writing for a comic book. Her -so far- only published book got recognition and won some awards.

[up] No.

[up][up][up][up] I mean, this happened because of an online petition, so I absolutely cannot take credit for this. Still, happy to see it. I've been waiting for this since that petition launched.

Writing for comics strikes me as actually being pretty similar to writing poetry, in that both require the ability to cut out as many words as possible while still conveying the desired meaning. So I've got high hopes for Ewing.

I have mixed feeling. On one hand I’m not sure if a poet would be a good choice for writing a narrative based medium like comic books as I find poetry to be based more on expressing the writers feelings and outlook rather than provide a story from different perspectives of the characters. On the other hand there have been examples where poetry can tell a story like many of William Shakespere plays and this one book of poems I read in my narrative journalism class in college which basically are connected in together relating to events of a murder trial and the reaction people have to it (I forgot the name of it, it was really innovative IMO); so basically chances are she could make the transition seemless.

Either way, all I know is that I hope Miss Ewing continues the characterization Zub gave to Riri as its pretty good template to go from here. I also find it amusing she has the same last name as my first choice for continuing Iron Heart story.

November solicits.

Pretty excited about Ironheart #1. And that Stephanie Hans variant! Mmph! Have to see if I can get that one.

The new Vision solo looks pretty cool. Some unlettered pages were posted today, and Aud Koch and Jordie Bellaire are a hell of a team. I really dig Koch's art.

Oh, they're bringing Carnage back. Yay. That's just, *sigh* that's just great.

Typhoid Mary vs. the X-Men? That really shouldn't be much of a fight.

Infinity Wars has Loki recruiting Ms. Marvel and Emma Frost as part of his Cosmic Avengers, and those feel like odd choices, but hey, the man's got taste. Also, I'm curious how Emma and Ms. Marvel will interact.

Infinity Warp: Moon Squirrel and Tippysaur. OK, yes, this is good. This is a good merger. I 100% approve of this.

We've now got the D&D designs for Viv, Wasp and Noca, and they look pretty cool.

WCA #4 indicates a Gwenpool/Quentin romance. And yeah, that makes sense. They're both mostly looking for attention, makes sense they'd hook up. Should be pretty fun.

Jen Bartel doing the line art for Black Panther #6, that's pretty great.

Lovely cover for Shuri #2, and Storm will be making an appearance, neat.

As always, Squirrel Girl wins the solicit game: "SQUIRREL GIRL IS DEAD! • ...is what you’d be saying if you only read the cover of our last issue and NOT the contents, in which we revealed a shocking twist: Squirrel Girl...IS ALIVE? • Yes! The good news is, everyone’s favorite squirrel-themed super hero is alive and well! But the bad news is: Whoever replaced her...was a shape-shifting alien SKRULL, and now Team Doreen doesn’t know who to trust! • Mysteries deepen and allegiances are tested in this issue as...a shocking Skrull is revealed! • It’s not Nancy, though. • Nancy’s great." You know, Nancy IS great.

For Unstoppable Wasp #2: "But when a founding Avenger and a current Champion hit the town, no matter how cute their outfits are, trouble follows!" I shouldn't be as amused as I am. But a focus on cute outfits is pretty on-brand, especially for Janet.

Moon Girl #37 has a special guest appearance from Santa Claus, and I am all about Santa showing up in superhero comics. The fact that Santa Claus is legitimately a real character in the Marvel Universe always amuses me. (He teamed up with Captain Marvel!) But also, I love the cover. Lunella and Devil ice skating. Adorable.

Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends holds no nostalgic value for me, so Iceman featuring them doesn't mean much to me, but damn if that isn't a gorgeous cover.

Oh hey, looks like Exiles will have Captain Peggy and Wild West T'Challa actually joining the team. Cool. T'Challa rocks the cowboy look.

Ooh, Morgan le Fay back in Weapon H, following up on Humphries' Weirdworld. Wonder if any other characters from that run will show up in this arc of Weapon H. I miss Becca.

Domino vs. Morbius? OK then.

X-23 has Laura and Gabby going to school. That sounds like it'll be a delightful disaster.

My November pull list: Champions #26, Vision #1, X-23 #6, X-Men Red #10, Domino #8, Exiles #10, Ironheart #1, Ms. Marvel #36, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #38, Unstoppable Wasp #2, Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur #37, Mr. and Mrs. X #5, Shuri #2, Life of Captain Marvel #5, West Coast Avengers #4, Black Panther #6. 16 comics. My pull list is holding pretty steady.

[up] Four Things:

1) Don’t mean D’Jango joins the Exiles. Cause lets face it Wild West Black Panther is pretty much D’Jango. Honestly a major improvement of a member over the last one. Speaking of . . .

2) They would not get along. Emma due to her hatred towards Inhumans over the whole Terrigen Mist, and have no love for any version of them. Kamala due to her action having an effect on former Champion Tykeclops. Its pretty much going to be a Kitty/Emma 2.0. Though I am more curious as why would Kamala work with Loki; unless she is an in universe Loki fangirl which . . . might actually make sense, especially seeing how for a time period Loki (or at least his younger clone) was a good guy.

3) Yeah I’m nostalgic for Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. Let’s hope this time it isn’t done awkwardly like the last time they got together.

4) Quinton x Gwen? Aw, I was expecting America to hook up with Quinton sense they will most likely clash a lot . . . wait America is gay. Damn my shipper logic for wanting to have two people who hate each other as a couple, even when their sexuality says otherwise!

[up][up] Wait Django T'Challa would be an improvement over what last one?

And Kamala did meet Loki once. He infiltrated her school & caused some chaos of course but they departed on general amicable terms.

It helps that Loki laid some protection runes on the school that came in handy in the next major attack,

[up][up][up] Kamala has actually met Loki. He messed with her a bit, then left golems to protect her school. So she presumably has some level of appreciation for him. Plus, he can be very, very persuasive.

And I can't actually see America and Quentin clashing much, because I can't see America giving much of a shit about Quentin at all. He'll try to get under her skin, and she'll just be like, "Yeah, whatever, chico." She dealt with Loki, an actual trickster god in the form of a 12-year-old, for months. An attention-seeking orphan boy is going to get to her? Nah. Honestly, I'm hoping their relationship is one of obligatory snarking. Neither of them actually has particularly strong feelings regarding the other, but they snark just to stay on-brand. And they both kinda enjoy having someone they can have that back-and-forth with, but they're still pretty neutral towards each other.

Quire and Gwenpool is actually a great pairing, though, because both of them are only in it for attention. It's perfect. It's a Reality Show Hookup, and they probably don't like each other when the cameras aren't on them, but as soon as there's a camera, they start making out. And whenever anyone comments on their relationship, they get all dramatic. And they'll end up throwing this big huge dramatic fight breaking up, and it'll be clearly staged.

[up] Between Emma and Illyana, Illyana's the nice one. She's been friends with Kitty since they were teenagers. Emma has a grudging respect for Kitty. So Illyana has much more of a basis for liking Kamala than Emma does. I can see Emma acquiring a grudging respect for Kamala, but not actually liking her.

I will never forgive Jason Aaron for bringing that prick Quinten back to prominence.

I feel like Aaron grossly misunderstood Quentin Quire as a character. Here's the thing: Quentin Quire, in New X-Men, was not A Bad Boy With A Heart Of Gold, the cliche Aaron turned him into. Quentin was a nerd who got bullied, until his parents died, only for him to learn they weren't his real parents. His whole world fell out from under him. At which point he started acting out at a world that he felt was unfair. He latched onto Radical Mutant Activism as a cause, but he was still a nerdy loser. That's still how he was seen by everyone else. He formed a gang with some other losers looking for a way to be cool. Oh, also, Quire was trying really hard to get one of the pretty girls to date him, and was pissy that she wouldn't.

Quentin Quire, in New X-Men, was an incel edgelord wannabe-punk. He was a loser. Everyone thought he was a loser. He was awful. And hey, it was fun. It was an entertaining story. But he wasn't A Bad Boy With A Heart Of Gold. He was a fucked-up nerd wanting to be cool so a pretty girl would like him.

And here's the key to what made the story work: Quentin failed. His grand riot? It was a handful of jackass kids causing some minor property damage, and it ended in his own death. And he was forgotten soon after. The pretty girl never liked him. He resurrected her from the dead, and she straight-up told him she'd rather be dead than date him.

Until Aaron brought him back, Quentin's most enduring legacy was, arguably, designing a floating platform for Martha, the brain-in-a-jar. Something he did when he was still a good kid. Nothing he did in his desperate bid for attention actually mattered. Had he stayed a good kid, he probably would've done a lot of good stuff. He would've done things that would've helped people. But he tried to be a rebel, tried to stick it to The Man, and accomplished nothing with any lasting value beyond his own death.

And then Aaron decided to bring him back as A Bad Boy With A Heart Of Gold, and with none of the depth, none of the shit that made his story interesting. Just an archetype. But he wears funny t-shirts, so he's totally cool.

I feel like, if Aaron had written New X-Men, then Quire would've faced no consequences for the riot, and he even would've gotten to date whichever Cuckoo he liked, because that's just the way stories go.

At some point, I'd like a writer to follow up on the whole thing with Quire's parents dying and then him immediately learning they weren't his real parents. That's the root of his bad behaviour, his acting out, and I want to see it actually addressed, but it seems like it's just been tossed to the side.

[up]To me he's just a fundamentally uninteresting character because like you said, the archetype has been done to death and Aaron doesn't really anything new to the table. The only time I felt Quinten was okay was in Generation X but that was because he got rid of his Phoenix shard by the end and was used like a ancillary character to Ben and Nathan's storyline.
