[up][up] That's just a thing that happens with Wonder Woman.

She regularly gets hit with the nerve stick.

[up] I believe the disdain for "Beware the Superman" comes more from how absolutely tired Superman deconstructions are than anything else.

Yeah, but, like, they’re not. It’s just that, again, those fans have made it popular to selectively pay attention to those while ignoring anything that goes against that narrative.

Like, the best example I can think of how the Superman-side of that war tends to skew reality just as bad as the Batman side is how literally the very same month Injustice 2 came out, DC did an entire event where evil versions of Batman canonically descended upon the DC universe whole said fans were swearing up and down it never happened, complete with laborious explorations of how each of them could have been Bruce has he been a bit too obsessed with this or a had something happen slightly different for him in the way those fans claimed Injustice was doing for Superman.

And canon, not just some random video game. It’s the same for most hero decons. Batman especially canonically goes crazy or evil or has his entire deal be mocked or shown to be useless often (heck, iirc he’s doing it right now), but no hero is without that kind of exploration from time to time.

As someone who’s been a fan of comics for decades at this point, the narrative people try to spread that Superman is overly deconstructed always struck me as silly, when really the only difference between Superman deconstructions and decons of other heroes is that when it happens to other heroes it tends to be canon whereas when it happens to Superman it generally isn’t.

As someone who's not been following comics but just from Pop Culture Osmosis on everything. I think there are just tons and tons of superhero deconstructions lately and it's kind of tiresome and it's not all Superman. they often do feature prominently an evil superman expy.

Like Brightburn, The Boys, Invincible etc.

Those later two, especially The Boys, are really prominent more so than a comic book like Dark Nights: Metal.

But yeah tired of superhero decons in general not specifically superman.

Give it a few years and it’ll be nothing but Iron Man and Captain America decons, just watch. Won’t that be fun?

Like, I'm pretty sure Tony's getting decon'ed even now.

How often has he got shit for being a rich asshole? We all hate rich assholes (and Tony kinda is that) but it seems like going after him for that is something a lot of people can't seem to get around.

Plus, the number of times he had to rebuild his company from scratch.

And Cap probably gets a lot of flak from people who think he represents American imperialism and other issues, rather than him trying to represent what the country could be and live up to that potential.

Like, I despise most of what the Arkham series does with Batman and his characters, but I’ve only occasionally had reason to be concerned that series has any effect on the rest of the franchise

Huh. I didn't know it was possible to hate the Arkham series. Now I'm curious.

Lets hear this.

[up] Seconded. Though I have read before the point that Arkham Bruce is even more of a go it alone standoff-ish git that most Batman.

As to Injustice story aside, I enjoy playing as Batman and Wonder Woman, and as TMNT's Leo. There a plenty though, the bigger and grabbier ones I find difficult. Like Swamp Thing, Grodd, Black Canary (and her focus on counters) anything that involves actual skill to use.

That Injustice literally allows you to play itself is a godsend for it's loot boxes.

I really enjoy the TMNT's gimmick that their moveset/voices/character ability changes so extensively with the weapons so they are different character. The same to a lesser extend with the premier skins.

It feels like something could expand in three or a spiritual successor game (are they planning anything? and so include multiple Robins/GLs/Flashes etc and make them more distinct.

Speaking of Superman, beyond being evil, something that seems to have affected his reputation is having been Stomped by Alfred, to the point of becoming a Memetic Loser.

With evil wonder, I think in this case it feel glaring in contrast with regime superman, like for all the thing abut superman being evil this goes into why and I will said what the joker did kinda does a good job into saying "yeah that will screw my head off" so he come as oddly sympathetic. Wonder woman.....not so much, while the rest move between deluded, belivers and just hired force.

as of "Superman is always desconstructed" is mostly about adaptation, Batman have nolan, Sydner version(regarded as best part really), the batman, injustice and the Arkhan who people tend to enjoy and more or less do justice to the chararter in one way or the other, Superman while having some like clark and lois and adventure with superman....dosent. Smallville deviate a lot(to be fair, it was the mood of the time), injustice feature his own take as does Sydner. So for many what they want is in short superman being the overpower cape jesus people come to love.

Finally I will said is more Superman have being kinda flanderized a little from being the boy scout to the heart of the group, meanign making evil sting more, a evil wonder woman is just a evil wonder man or a evil man of tomorrow?.

They were friends in Injustice though.

I'm not au fait on all the Harleys. but Injustice Harley kind of has a claim on both being the worst (nuking gotham) and best (genuine reform and joins the JL) of Harleys.

Be interesting to see that play out in a harleyverse style story.

I've thought of something, Wonder Woman can actually be considered an example of The Man in Front of the Man.?

I mean, she manipulated Superman, and was (partly) responsible for his fall, but it doesn't seem to me that she considers him a puppet King or anything like that.

Reading the description, I don't think so? I could be wrong but she's just a very enthusastic follower/enabler of Regime!Supes, not secretly the leader hidden in plain sight.
