Blurg. Burn all the examples. ever.
Chainsaw it. This doesn't need examples. Just a definition and the image should be enough.

Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes.I am normally against sectionectomies, but I really don't see what use these examples serve. I base my criteria for a sectionectomy on what a page would look like if it included every example and were free of errors. In this case, a complete page would list every fandom that has ever existed. That's not particularly useful.
Two things:
First, oh god, NO. No Real Life examples, and no examples that even REFER to real fans. That's just flame wars waiting to happen. This is a definite No Real Life Examples Please.
and Second: Is there a reason why this trope page refers only to "fans"? Why can't ANY group be included? I mean, unless you're extending the term "fan" to an awfully wide extent, the most common usages may well be in politics, religion, and public policy discussions. For instance, when the bulk of a political party skews whatever its country considers "moderate", yet the conventions or primaries or whatever are dominated by radicals of some sort, that's a "vocal minority". If a religion's adherents are mostly okay with a particular practice but a few hardcore adherents vehemently declare "no, it's a horrible sin!", that's a vocal minority.
It seems to me that some of the "fan" references should just be changed to "group members" or the like. It also seems to me that we perhaps should not have any examples, save maybe for "in-universe" examples, because it is just flame-bait waiting to happen.
That's basically what I proposed in the first post. It's not a question of whether or not the examples need to be axed. They need to be, and I will do so. It's a question of whether or not anyone wants to go to the effort of coming up with some actual in-universe examples to replace them.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes.I really can't think of any. Looking over the page, doesn't seem like any are listed, either. Thus it seems the obvious solution is a sectionectomy.
"Polite life will fill you full of cancer." - Iggy Pop "I've seen the future, brother, it is murder." -Leonard CohenI went ahead and axed the examples. They needed to go anyway, and there is always the option to add in-universe examples in the future.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes. Is there anything else to do here, then?
"Polite life will fill you full of cancer." - Iggy Pop "I've seen the future, brother, it is murder." -Leonard CohenI don't think so. Requesting lock.

The real life section maintenance thread (link) decided that this page should have no real life examples. The problem is that almost every single example on the page is a real life example, even if it is disguised as a media example. Usually they are of the form "Not all fans of series x have this opinion even though you hear it stated all the time." I would like to clean this page up, but I'm hesitant to remove every single example on the page. If we can find enough in-universe examples to make it a real trope page, then great. Otherwise, it may have to be example-less.
