Why does it seem lately so many random trope pages are just deleted? It bugs me when a trope I wanted to read or edit just doesn't exist anymore.

How is it that so many people are unaware of this?

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.

[up]The 2nd incident, though recent, hasn't been as heavily advertised as the 1st.

I'm just saying, it seems like one second this was all anyone could talk about here and the next everyone became suddenly ignorant.

A weird thought.

I poked fun at crawling prudishness today, comparing it to wikipedia's Serious Business. Naturally, one wikipedian throws a hissyfit. Even turns out to be a moderator, removing my Evil Extremist sin against the NPOVTM and looking like a jerkass abusing the banhammer for protecting a personal fan-thingy from funny looks. Okay, all as usual.

And then it hits me - how much of a joke was in this joke?

A sudden epidemy of overzealous content cleansing is something very familiar. That's what happened on Live Journal, for example. If you didn't hear about that one, it was not exactly a sign of incoming flowers and sunshine. Something like this happened to Deviant Art too. Though this time a completely inside coup. "Things That Make You Go Hmm..." indeed. It's a bad, bad trend.

So, let's go with The Register, just for convenience. Late 2007: googlepedia. Late 2008: googlepedia at last industrializes - raises from peddling to ideological MuckDonuts. Late 2009: love to Big Bro and his little bros declines. The situation for the capitol of "digital maoism" didn't get better, did it? Just about any dedicated (and thus content-generating) community that wants a wiki-sandbox can make their own. And does.

If the "Encyclopedia Which Anyone Can Edit If It Was Not Against The Party NPOVTM" dies of senility, what to do? Reanimate it? Good luck. Why not to absorb other existing content along with contributors (at least those who won't run away from the smell of this)? Suppose it will remain "separate" on the level of its own domain name and CSS - but how much difference beyond this?

...And even I make no pretense Of having more than common sense - R.W.Wood
