Apparently Heroes broke street date in some places. Anyways, here's a trailer showing off some game modes:

Does World Mission include Cyborg Zamasu? Because if so that sells me on the game immediately. :p

No, Punished Zamasu first appeared in Universe Mission 6, World Mission only has missions and cards from SDBH Mission 1 to Universe Mission 2.

Ah ok, that’s disappointing. Honestly out of all the bizarre thinks to come out of Heroes, Cyborg Zamasu sticks out to me the most as the most like, entertainingly bizarre I guess lol.

Eh, I'm sure he'll be added later on through DLC. The 3DS ports had free card updates, so I'm sure the same will happen with World Mission.

I kind of expect us to get more missions via DLC because it'd be really weird to me if the missions cut off in the middle of the prison planet arc.

Plus this seems like a DLC friendly game.

Continuing on from my path to power watch, I decided to re-watch GT with the sub as I'd only seen it dubbed previously. Spoiler alert: I probably still won't like it.

The opening is pretty cool, though. I don't quite get why it's so popular in the fandom as I think Dan Dan Kokoro isn't as good as Head Cha La or We Gotta Power, and it's also less fitting since it's a love song. It's good to have that variety.

The opening animation is pretty cool, though. There's a really nice moment where Goku, Trunks and Pan attack a giant robot with each doing a hit that brings it down. TOO BAD PAN'S CONTRIBUTIONS COULDNT BE AS EQUAL IN THE ACTUAL SHOW HUH

Anyway, the first episode starts with Goku fighting Oob. I don't know if I misremembered this or the dub just wasn't as clear, but the sub makes it clear that this is THE rematch that Goku wanted when he trained Oob. What is shown of it is pretty good, but the conclusion to the fight is off-screen as Goku and Oob return to the top of the lookout and both collapse.

Interesting thing to note is that even though Goku is only shown fighting in base form, he says after the fight that he could fight Oob with both going all-out. I'd previously thought that GT just made base Goku that strong, which is supported by him going on to fight Rildo who is 'even stronger than Majin Boo'. But this would imply that Good went all out in the off-screen section of the fight and the two are evenly matched which makes much more sense (yay for Oob).

Not showing Goku transform at all may seem odd if he really did go all-out, but I think it'd be really weird if the first episode had him whip out Super Saiyan 3 so I can understand why it was left implied rather than shown. I also think Goku not using Super Saiyan in the original epilogue is done for the same reason, to keep things simpler for a short fight.

Anyway, I like the detail of Dende and Popo creating a special room to contain Goku and Oob's fight and those two destroying it anyway (as well as most of the lookout). That's pretty funny, although I'm not 100% sure I buy 'the Earth can't handle that fight' when stronger characters fought on Earth in the Boo arc. Maybe Goku/Oob are actually stronger than that by now (and so Oob has actually surpassed Pure Boo instead of reaching that level) or it could be that they don't want them damaging the Earth in an unnecessary battle (even Good vs Fat Boo was pretty destructive, so I can believe that).

Also the dub had a stupid line here about Dende getting a first aid kit for Goku/Oob which always bugged me. Didn't realize it was dub only, that's much better.

Oob thanks Goku for everything and flies home, really hammering in that the original purpose of Good training him has been completed. I'm of two minds about this. I'm glad that they do address that with Oob and gave that resolution (as I originally believed that they just ignored it) but for something important enough to end the previous series on, I feel it warranted more emphasis and build up to the conclusion. On the other hand, GT clearly wants to establish the status quo for the rest of the series by having Goku turn into a kid and the black star balls used in the first episode, so that definitely makes sense.

Ultimately, Oob's subplot isn't as important to the series as the new elements being introduced, so I can understand why the attention was split the way it was. And, frankly, Oob wasn't really that important to the previous series as he mostly represented a new (but explicitly temporary) goal for Goku and a way to close out the series.

Another direction GT could have taken would be for Oob to start off still not having realized his full potential, and to tag along on the hunt for the Black Star Balls. I'm sure that's what a lot of fans would have wanted to see, but I'm not so sure I'd agree with that. That premise would definitely give the writers a lot to work with, but it would only work if they were able to commit to building up to Oob as the protagonist and sticking to it, lest he end up a repeat of the problems surrounding Gohan. And frankly, I don't really want Oob as the protagonist, because I don't think he has the same build up and connections of other characters coupled with his late appearance in the cast.

Resolving this in the first episode is a good way to say 'this won't be the focus of the series' so that people's expectations aren't falsely raised (even if the epilogue has understanding already raised them). For me the most important thing is how Oob is handled as a supporting character.

Anyway, I don't mind the idea of the Black Star Dragon Balls although I'd like a little more detail of why they work the way they do and how Pilaf knows about them (easy answer: Daimao told him waaaay back when).

Goku getting turned into a kid isn't a detail I liked or thought they should've done, but I think I would've been fine with it as a temporary change to be resolved with the Black Star subplot.

The episode ends with the child Goku returning home and being informed by Kaio that the Black Star Dragon Balls will destroy Earth if they are not gathered with a year, which really sets the stakes for this arc. Interestingly, the sub makes it clear that only the Black Star Balls can reverse Goku's wish, something I didn't remember them doing in the dub. They also bring up the idea of just using the regular dragon balls to move everyone to a different planet, but relegate it to a last resort.

Still doesn't address my favourite solution of 'use the dragon balls to wish the black star balls back to earth' which would be nice to see ruled out as a possibility.

Anyway, I'm wondering if I should start blogging my progress through the series. Would anyone be interested in reading about that?

...I think that's the first time I ever heard that solution for GT. I wonder if it would have worked.

Probably not, because they were determined to get the story a specific way, but it is an interesting thought.

Edit: Blog away. Maybe hearing someone's thoughts on GT after Super might make us all look at the former in a new light.

I'd certainly be interested to hear your thought process on the whole thing.

I'm not sure that I like Uub being as strong as he is, if only because it's given little build up and has no outcome on anything. It's like... "there's this dude that's buu's reincarnation. he's just as strong as buu is, but we're not going to show any of his training or powers or any of that."

I should watch GT subbed, if only for the soundtrack. I'm a fan of both Z's original score and the Faulconer soundtrack, but the English version of GT had a weird rock score that was aggressively mediocre.

[up][up][up]Well, I think the end of series shows that he starts off with great potential, but us nowhere near fulfilling it yet. He's able to hurt base Goku when he gets mad, which is really really far from being able to fight SS 3 Goku as Boo would have done.

After that I suppose it's a matter of how long he should take to realize that potential, or I guess if a reincarnation should even necessarily inherit such potential.

[up] that's one reason a lot of people told me to watch it! The other was that the dub script wasn't very accurate it

I too would read such a blog. Interesting to hear thoughts about GT in this day & age.

[up][up] Man it’s weird how old anime would get their soundtrack changed. Odd thing to do.

I would not be interested in reading such a thing, and I would recommend that you do the blog in the TVTropes live-blog section instead of this thread.

One thing I remember about the dub of GT that I don't think was as much of a problem in the sub from what little I've seen of it is the blatant continuity issues.

Like, the 17 arc in general. Yeesh.

When I mentioned blogging it I meant putting it on blogspot or something, so I could use screenshots if needed and potentially share it on Kanzenshuu as well.

Could also use TV tropes' liveblogs, that's not a bad idea though it will mean no images.

Does anyone have a preference between the three options (off-site blog, tv tropes' blog, posting here) ?

Well, I found my old blog that I set up when I planned to review the original manga, which I abandoned when I wrote about 1,200 words on the first chapter and realized I was way overexplaining things and couldn't maintain that.

Maybe I can actually go back to that when I finish up the GT re-watch. Hopefully covering GT will teach me how to use brevity when reviewing things.

Relatively speaking.

Also I rewatched the episode while checking some things and ha-ha I only actually covered half of the episode. Whoops. I'd better post this in two parts now and try to fix my length going forward.

Who was in charge of those dubs anyway?

Funimation, I think. One of the continuity errors, I remember, was linked to earlier dub mistake: the original Funi dub for Z screwed up during the Cell Saga and rather strongly implied that 17 didn't come back after Cell. GT's English dub goes forward with that by blatantly referring to 17 as having been resurrected.
