[up]Someone who wasn't taught the meaning of priorities, and somehow is in the military.

Yes, that is worse than it seems.

Well it was pointed out that Object made it possible to join military even for people who would have no business there before.

This is actually the thing that most interests me in this series - a look on how a new, overwhelming technology could cause a paradigm shift in military doctrine. This is usually something that sci fi -even one focusing on war - lacks. Sci fi battlefields are usually very much like our own battlefields, expect guns shoot lasers instead of bullets. I'm very interested in a setting where author put though into the effects of new, more advanced technologies and weapon systems.

While I don't remember the scene with the straps, everything else is as interesting as I remember from the manga adaption I read a few years ago. I am guessing that manga only covered the first arc so I will be looking forward to see where the show goes.

Aw man, they cut the sumo tourneament for the right of eating the deer, along with the punch-line of that whole thing.

Second episode is out and there is some nice action in it as well as a bit of development for the Princess. I do like the design of the enemy Object.

This episode had some great, gripping action, and I think Quenthur redeemed himself for his general dumbassery from the first episode. This show is heading in a good direction.

...Qwenthur is a student who has never shot a person in his life. The smart bullets helped him score a whole bunch of headshots, with no wasted shots.

Havia, a noble and supposedly trained soldier, took at least 5 shots to kill a damn moose.

What the hell? Is Havia THAT bad of a shot that the smart bullets' assist can't correct his shitty shooting?!

But anyway, that was a great effort by both dudes. It's gonna be awesome seeing how they take the Strider down. I mean, there's a pretty clear weakness that was mentioned; the Strider's retarded design places undue strain on its legs, but I can't see them taking advantage of that.

I'm thinking Havia is just impatient and doesn't give the bullets enough time to lock on. Or insists on shooting from the hip.

I liked how Qwenthur admitted that Princess was right to look down on them - they are cowards hiding behind a fourteen year old girl, and making her fight their battles. There's just no way around that fact.

Also, it seems that this Faith Association thing will be the villains, and man - they establish themselves as the worst kind of scum right from the gate.

[up] I'm slightly ticked off by how black and white the sides are, but it's too early too judge. Otherwise solid episode, although Funimation's encoding is absolute shit for the second episode.

I don't have a problem with that. The more despicable the villains, the greater satisfaction when the heroes defeat them. waii

FYI, Kamachi does tend to exaggerate mook level evil sometimes.

I think it was warranted here- Qwenther needed to feel justified in killing them for the story to not end, and they weren't exaggerated to an unrealistic degree.

But anyway- this episode was a clear improvement on the first, but moving it from 'meh' in a bad way to 'meh' in a good way.

Normally, making the villian comically evil is considered bad writing or at the very least poor characterization. However, in this case it would distract from the focus so I'll give it a by.

Torture and rape have been part and parcel of war for centuries. So no, I don't think it's too exaggerated.

Especially since they'd already established this particular group as unusually bloodthirsty, what with them breaking the unwritten rules about accepting surrenders and therefore getting the plot started.

Episode 3 sees the first arc end with more technobabble and a big bang (how the hell did they survive that?).

So that was the best episode I've ever watched that kind of made me want to drop the series. Like- that was cool enough, but I get the sense that it's all downhill from here and this would be a good stopping point.

If it follows the LN, it'll just be more of the same, rinse and repeat. They get shipped off to a new battlefield, find some object perfectly designed for the terrain, and sabotage it somehow because of glaring design flaws.

There's very little if any overarching plot. Just endless and interchangeable battles. Just different robot gimmicks.

Understandable, less so is how the Faith Organisation commander surviving who looked like he took the explosion full in the face. Still this was an entertaining episode nonetheless.

I liked the episode, my biggest fear - that the way they'll deal with the Object will be stupid - was alleviated. They never even got close to the Object and the way the took advantage of the weakness doesn't pose a question why don't people do it all the time. Because you first need access to the spare parts for it.

The Trio has great interactions and I can't wait to see how they take care of future Objects, especially now that they'll have a new and improved Baby Magnum on their side.

Can't wait for the next episode! waii

Episode 4. A little comedy before the action gets going is good and I did like that they explained Heivia's lechery as his way of dealing with the stress of the situation. The new enemy object is interesting and I am guessing that the mines wrapped around it's keel will be important in eventually taking it down.

Aww, Princess and Qwenthur text all the time. That's nice. waii

They sure take good care of their Elites.

The banter before mission is hilarious and keeps the lighthearted atmosphere even in the middle of a battle. Havia and his ranging boner for Major always crack me up.

I like the bit of snarky realism this show has about military operations. Military high brass is often hilariously incompetent and removed from reality, and I bet in this setting this is even more prevalent.

They destroyed one Object so now the Command treat them as magical fix all solution to all Object related problems. They throw money away on pointless bells and whistles like the mine barrier and 30 makeshift bases that never get any use since enemy obviously arrived first. Typical.

And of course bad communication results in friendly fire. I love how happy the Princess looks about helping them while they duck for cover. Though honestly it doesn't seem like she even needs their help this time.

Well, they didn't scratch the Object (big surprise) but they destroyed the cargo, so it should fall back, right? There's no good reason for it to stay if it can't deliver it.

Episode 5: I knew it would be the mines that helped destroy the Object. Reasonable episode all in all but I feel the fist arc was far better developed, this one felt like it was missing something for some reason.
