I dunno. What would you do if you had a Death Note?

That is a good question.

I hope I wouldn't go crazy or something. I worry sometimes that the only thing that stops one from being evil is circumstance.

I think what stops most people from being evil, most of the time, is fear.

Fear of punishment, fear of guilt, fear of what people might think of them if they were found out etc.

Does that sound too Machiavellian?tongue

I'd probably have the same goals as Light if I got the Death Note. I wouldn't exactly do it his way though like:

1. No "I NEED MY EGO PETTED!" crap.

2. No killing innocents/ law officials.

3. No killing criminals that are already in jail.

4. Only kill the worst of the worst.

I'd probaby toss it thinking it was some bad joke. If not, then probably do what Near postulated: use it once or twice for a lark then get rid of it in a panic.

I might just hold on to it forever and never do anything with it. At least then it would stay out of the wrong hands.

I just wish there's an episode where Matsuda interacts with Sayu before the Time Skip. Oh, when they do interact, think of Kai and Nya.

It looks like Shane Black is still going to work on a Death Note film. From Bleeding Cool:

So here’s what Black had to tell me about the film adaptations of Death Note and Doc Savage that he’s hoping to make.

"Right now I’ve got this thing at Warner Bros. called Death Note that I like a lot. It’s a Japanese Manga that’s very tense and really cool."

"With hard work and dedication, I will become a splendid ninja!"

Anyone think that The Lich King would ally with Light if the two met(the helmet prevents Light from seeing his face and I think The Lich King would be quite interested in challenging L and gathering the corpses of criminals for reanimation)?

OK, my best friend told me this was "spine-tinglingly" good, so I decided to have a watch. So far, it's rather compelling, but not up there with the greats.

Unless we're talking about the greats of potato chip eating.

Also, is it just me who thinks Light was stupid to kill Raye? Surely if all the other FBI agents died but not Raye, he would have immediately have become the suspect as opposed to Light?

I'm so sorry that my avatar doesn't appear fully in the shot, but the cat was threatening the photographer.

[up]Well, Light is known for doing this sort of things, remember when he thought he had killed L on TV and ended up screwing things up? He thinks he's some sort of god but he really is a 17-years-old kid. A genius, yes, but still a kid.

Besides, Light needed Raye to get the names of the other FBI agents. And he couldn't just phone the guy and say "Yeah dude yo gimmie the names or I killya", he needed to confront him and threaten him. And he knew that if he let him live, he'll probably identify him with Kira sooner or later. Also, L had already stated that Kira lived in Japan, and Raye lived in USA. There's no way it could have been him, as Kira's first victims never appeared in any news broadcast outside Japan, and Light had proven it when he killed Lind L. Taylor.

What I think was stupid was killing the FBI agents in the first place, but putting myself in Light's place, it was probably a self-defense measure, and in the end this move allowed him to get near L, which proved to be a benefit.

TL;DR: 1. Light is known to be impulsive; 2.Kira was proven to be japanese; 3.he needed someone who knew the names and 4.he couldn't let this person to know who he was

Killing Raye wasn't Light's smartest movie, in that Raye had been basically going to clear Light as being perfectly normal and innocent... but it allowed him to get to the FBI agents, which amongst other things seriously damaged L's reputation with law enforcement and thus got L to reveal himself to police for the first time - ever, apparently. L went from basically calling the shots to every law enforcement agency in the world, to having like only 5 cops at his disposal.

For all Light's impulsiveness and occasionally juvenile actions, he is really good at manipulating public perceptions. It's one thing he has over L (and Near and Mello); for all their intelligence, none of them are really great at social skills, and he exploits the hell out of it.

To Near's credit, there was that scene where he and his team escaped from Misa's eyes disguised as SWAT officers. Turned Light's mob advantage on its head, he did.

Light's not especially smart. He's impulsive, emotional, and short-sighted. He has two major benefits, really: he is clever, and he's the only person who actually knows the rules of the game everyone's playing. He's a Chessmaster; as long as everything goes exactly according to plan with no deviation, he can be very brilliant. But even then, he has a massive ego that demands attention. He craves admiration and recognition even while he's actively straining to keep from being found.

[up]Calling him clever and brilliant seems to imply that he is smart. Being smart and letting his emotions or ego get the best of him are not mutually exclusive.

I still wouldn't say smart. Manipulative would be a better word. He's very talented at one specific thing. L, by comparison, is quick on his feet and never misses an opportunity to turn every play into his advantage. The only reason Light was even able to keep L off his game in the first place is because Light was the only person who actually knew the rules of the game they were playing. That was Light's huge advantage; that L had to deduce what the game even is before he could hammer down how Light's doing it. L nailed Light from the very start; the stumbling block was always the how, not the who. And even with that, Light needed help. Misa, Rem, and Ryuk were all vital components of his game, without any of which, he would have collapsed. Even in the end, he had to convince Rem to kill L; he couldn't do it himself.

Light was...I think "resourceful" is the word I'm looking for. He was very good at making use of what he had to work with, but he was consistently overwhelmed by L's sheer intelligence, and also had a bad habit of shooting himself in the foot - which is actually how he died, completely and thoroughly indicting himself as Kira because he couldn't resist the urge to gloat. Near and Mello had an advantage over L in that they already had the how firmly established when they started playing. All they had to do was reconstruct the who that L had hit on right off the bat.

Light was only as capable as all of the people that were helping him succeed, and only so smart as he knew all of the rules that everybody else had to guess at. The only thing that was really Light's advantage is simply that he was skilled at making use of the tools in his possession.

[up][up]While we're on the topic, my favorite Naruto character is Karin, I hate chocolate, sunshine, and happiness, and I don't particularly care for Gurren Lagann.

Also the Clone Saga was the best Spider-Man story ever written, and Rob Liefeld is a genius. Have I mentioned how much I dislike Back To The Future? Give me Michael Bay any day of the week.

Killing Raye was a necessary move, if we're to believe the creator. Given that they've said they had to kill her quicker than initially planned because they realized if she survived past that point, she would've caught Light.

Lost Rem, lost Light.

World went to shit. Might as well quit.

Pretty chilling when you recall the scene they used to foreshadow it.
