[up]Two weeks will be short actually. Short, but painful.

And yeah, I download the anime I watch and put them on CD.

For people in America who want to watch Last Exile free and legal in good quality and don't mind a few commercials, Funimation has it on their website. It uses a Hulu-based player, so it very well might be there too.

I rank the Last Exile dub up there in my top ten, maybe even top five.

It's just such an all-around great show. Shortly after I started rewatching it a few weeks ago (I am now between episodes 13 and 14, I've been alternating with rewatching Eureka Seven), I recommended it to a friend who was looking for something new to watch after having finished Evangelion. She loved it (and yes, finished it way ahead of me), and would in theory love to cosplay as Dio someday, but we've both agreed that it would be a damn hard costume to make. (And so we moved on to pondering a Giant Naked Rei cosplay instead, see Evangelion thread...)

I'm excited for Fam's eventual free and legal arrival in America, but until them I'm still confused as to whether it's a sequel or an AU. So I eagerly await it coming out so everyone else here can tell me a bit more about it!

The all girl cast, plus the fanservice in the trailer just made me lose a little hope in this.

I've been combing through the Fam official Japanese site and I watched the PV again. I know no Japanese, so this is all very frustrating...I swear Exile itself made an appearance at the beginning of the PV, but I'm not sure how important that is. So that said, it's clear that once again we have a pair of protagonists (this time working for some pre-exsisting fleet/organization with its own ships), a cool unique ship that they wind up associated with in the same manner as the Silvana, two warring nations like in the original, possibly an antagonist who is with neither side, someone who either is Dio or is a genderflip thereof, some other Guild-looking guy...and also, Tatiana and Alister seem to be on the character page, but it might not actually be them. Well, according to Wikipedia, Dio, Tatiana, and Alister's voice actors are back, so that would seem to support the theory that they really all are back somehow.

I am very confused. I need to put the website in front of a friend who can read Japanese and ask them to translate...

65 page manga chapter to introduce the story

I must say, it got me interested. I think someone is taking some inspiration from Final Fantasy XII.

Interesting...

On page 19, it says it's the story of "a certain blue planet". That's the way they referred to Earth in Last Exile.

I know, but how the heck would Dio have got there? I seem to recall them blowing up the space ship so that no one would fight over it anymore.

Not saying it is impossible, but still...

I never was particularly fond of the first Last Exile, but the introductory manga got me interested. Guess I'll be watching this after all.

[up][up] Really? I don't recall it blowing up. As far as I remember, it was going to start running trips between Prester and Earth on autopilot.

That ending is so tripy that I forgot most of it (even though I remembered most of the rest of the show) until I re-watched it lately. It is completely possible that I am misremembering that part. And your version of events does make a lot more logical sense.

Wait, when does it start showing? I wanna see it - I LOVED the first Last Exile.

For that matter, is there a date for when the dub starts, or are we going to have to wait a while for that?

EDIT: Just took a peek at the manga. Looks like it IS Dio! Makes me happy. I don't know why, but he ended up as my favorite character before. Wonder if we'll get an explanation for how he's alive?

Also, page ten. He still flies a vanship alone. -cries-

I think there's an All There in the Manual explanation in the Aerial Log artbook. At least, I'd heard that Word of God was that Dio survived even before I learned he'd be in Fam.

[up] Yeah, that's what I heard too. Never mind what I said.

Still, this looks pretty cool. I really don't see why everyone's complaining that most of the characters are female. That doesn't automatically mean there'll be boatloads of fanservice. -_- It does look different, but I"m still looking forward to it.

Also, it looks to me like this is set on Earth? How long after the first series IS this, anyway? I'd imagine it would have been a while, since they've already built up countries.

When I first heard about the series, I did think it kind of odd that two entirely new kingdoms could form in such a short span of time that Dio is still alive. But if the setting is Earth, then some (all?) of the characters could be descendants of people who remained on Earth rather than travel to Prester.

Who is to say these people were not on Earth all along? From what I remember, the other world was created as a new home, but there was no mention of their previous home (Earth) being a disaster area or anything like that. Dio showed up 6 months before because that is when the ship got to Earth.

Even if I am wrong, I'm sure that it will be explained at some point.

I was not doubting that he lived, I was wondering how he got from the other/original world to what we are calling Earth.

Just read the manga. Lots of fun, definitely helps tide me over until I can see the anime. Is this a standalone or is this how the anime is going to start and go for the first episode or so?

I love how Dio is basically the same as ever, although he looks a bit more feminine, which...can possibly be attributed to overall different character designs, I guess? I'm still trying to figure out...I don't think he had to be in this, is he mostly in it because of fan demand? Well regardless, I sent my Last Exile-loving friend the manga URL, and I can only imagine her squeeing over Dio...

Now I'm going to re-check the official website, since I've basically seen who's who and what ships belong to each side.

I assume the manga is a seperate adaptation of the same script of the anime. It's how these things usually go

[up][up][up][up]I don't mind Dio coming back in principle, but explaining his survival is another matter. (I guess this series might explain it?) And I suppose it's a little pet peeve of mine, but I never really considered that artwork as hard proof since it's a standalone piece, and I never got to hear the Word of God on its canonicity.

Still, it's good to see him back. Let's see where it goes.

Does chapter 1 of the manga cover the same ground as Episode 1 of the anime? (Just asking for confirmation.)

I'm still going to look forward to seeing all this in anime form, because I often have trouble telling what's going on in manga and this was no exception. I still don't really understand how Fam steals ships. Although it didn't help that it was late and therefore I was both tired and trying to rush through the manga.

Judging by what was said about a hundred years of war or something, people have almost certainly been on Earth the whole time that the original series was taking place and whatnot. Their Claudia technology seems slightly different, but not by much.

I'm still wondering when Tatiana, Alister, and what looks like a replica of the Silvana (that's probably their ship) are going to show up. And I'm also wondering who that somewhat sinister-looking fellow in gray on the character page of the official site is. I mean, he's clearly from the Guild. I wonder if he has any connection to Dio...

WAIT A MINUTE...trying to re-read the manga now, all I had to do was look at the first page to notice that there appears to be six moons! What's going on here? This might not be Earth after all...or something very strange has happened...

Well, the "blue and green planet" that is mentioned in both series could easily be a different planet all together. We were just assuming it was earth for convenience. Or this could be another world that was terraformed or settled at some point in the past.

Really, it does not matter. Hopefully they will name the world at some point.

Unless Luschinia is in every episode I am going to be disappointed. He's basically the only EBB fodder in the series at this point.
