Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

Unbreakable skin means unburnable skin, too. He's held an exploding grenade in his hands and it did nothing.

I think Mariah suggested it.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersKilgrave tried to explode Luke. He walked out of the explosion on fire but unhurt.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Well, we will still be getting R-Rated Deadpool films:

Though I wonder if they'll somehow keep the continuity of the first two or make a brand new canon for the character.
Due to how Deadpool is, they can easily keep things as is and just replace the references they don't need anymore.
He did reference both X-Men timelines. And the MCU. And DC too.
If Deadpool doesn't call out the shift of ownership, I'll be very disappointed.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t brag about Dark Phoenix being the franchise’s death kneel yet he’s still kicking all the more successful.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I’d love a subtle background gag in a cemetery where one of the headstones is Laura’s X from the end of Logan.
It's been 3000 years…Didnt he bring up the Fox/Disney merger in Once Upon A Deadpool?
> I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t brag about Dark Phoenix being the franchise’s death kneel yet he’s still kicking all the more successful.
if he does that and they cut to a scene of Jean Grey sobbing "they ruined my character arc!"
New theme music also a boxCorrect me if I'm wrong but a grenade's main way of killing a person is through the explosion that tears away limbs and the shrapnel that gets all up in your grill. Is there a heat flash with a recorded temperature I'm unaware of?
Now, his skin is invulnerable (which probably means his epidermis counts as well) and my brief research tells me that degree burns are determined by the depth of the burn from first-degree burns, which only damage the epidermis, to fourth-degree burns, which goes through the skin, taking away fat, muscle and sometimes bone.
Now, while his skin is off the table for "things that could be hurt", he's not invincible. As Jessica Jones showed, his insides are still as vulnerable as the next person's, considering he needed medical attention after a point-blank shotgun blast to the head. While his skin can't be broken, it can still take in sensory information and register impacts.
I'm curious: asphyxiation, shock, hypothermia (I guess)- how likely are these scenarios to kill him?
Fun fact: the leading cause of death by burn injuries is sepsis.

Unbreakable skin doesn't automatically mean un-burnable skin. There are materials that are both strong and flammable.
Having said that, being able to take a direct hit from a grenade explosion implies that his skin is also pretty fireproof. While grenades mostly kill using shrapnel, grenade explosions do produce enough heat to severely injure someone (they're about 690 F or 365 C).
Mind you, that would be a quick "flash" of heat rather than something sustained. I haven't seen the show, but I would still argue that incendiary weapons would be a good choice for a weapon to kill Cage with, particularly napalm or white phosphorus.
Particularly, I would suggest using one to suffocate him or destroy his lungs. Just because his skin is fireproof doesn't mean his lungs are, and if he's inhaling fire then he's probably gonna die. Indeed, I would say a cool moment you could have is him having to cover his nose and eyes and run through a burning building to do something while holding his breathe and unable to see.
Plus, if it's hot enough, it might burn his organs beneath his skin, depending on how his skin works.
Another good option would be chemical and radiological weapons. A nerve gas that can go through skin, for example.
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"Again, we literally see him survive a bar-consuming fireball of an explosion and walk out on fire but completely unharmed save for his charred clothes.
The palm grenade doesn't really prove anything we didn't already know about his fire-resistance.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Asphyxiation would certainly kill him. Heck, it would even kill Wolverine — a Healing Factor does jack shit against oxygen deprivation.
Disgusted, but not surprisedMan still needs to breathe so of course that's gonna kill him.
He's indestructible, not immortal.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."He can certainly drown, that's for sure.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Honestly, there are a lot of ways to get around unbreakable skin. It's just that most of them are well beyond the means of the level of foes Luke Cage usually faces. Though to his credit Luke certainly isn't afraid to fight foes who are a serious threat to him.
I still look back fondly on the story in the comics when he beat the crap out of Doctor Doom because Doom stiffed him on $200.

Disgusted, but not surprisedIs Ryan Reynolds still Deadpool?
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationOf course not. Deadpool already killed Ryan Reynolds.
Bu in all seriousness, there's no reliable news confirming that he'll be playing Deadpool again in an MCU movie yet.

Disgusted, but not surprisedNo one's said anything about it, but we're all thinking Ryan's going nowhere.
He's Deadpool, just like how J.K. Simmons is J. Jonah Jameson.

There's at least one news story claiming that he will, but it's from a really unreliable (and fascist) source.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI wonder if he would have made a good Hal Jordan if he was given some better material.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The jokes about Deadpool using time travel to go back and undo/fix scenes we don't like write themselves.

Has anybody tried to burn Luke Cage alive? Or asleep?
