You slowly open your eyes as you awaken, the back of your head throbbing with pain. You do not immediately recognize your surroundings, or anything else, for that matter. As you get to your feet, you realize that you cannot remember who you are or how you arrived here. You only remember your name: Daniel Steel, or Steely Dan as some seemed to call you. Whatever happened, it seems you have ended up in a small chapel of some sort...

You appear to be standing in a small chapel. There are five rows of pews on each side of the center aisle, which leads up to a large wooden podium. The podium has been knocked over on its side, and on the wall behind it is a magnificent stained glass window that seems to loom over the entire chapel. The large double doors opposite the altar are to the south, and appear to be the only way out.
Just below the stained glass window is the altar. Draped over the altar is an unsettling-looking black veil. There appears to be something on the altar, beneath this veil.

>>Open the door and peek out.
You peer out one of the large double doors and see a parking lot consumed by the darkness of night. The parking lot looks empty, with the exception of a single car parked in the spot closest to the entrance.

>Look at self
The car appears to be an REO Speedwagon. It seems to be kept in good condition. This car seems very familiar to you somehow...
>> Look at self.
A quick glance at your hands reveals that you are caucasian, and that you are wearing a leather jacket over a black shirt that reads "ROCK HARD, RIDE FREE", complemented by denim jeans and brown sneakers. That's as much as you can tell with no mirror on hand.

Your pockets are all empty.
[Hint: I added an extra paragraph to the chapel description that should have been there in the first place]
>>look at window
It's an amazing window displaying a trio of crosses. It gives the whole chapel a sacred air, but is otherwise unremarkable.
Just as you pull the black veil off of the altar, the sight of what was hidden under it leaves you reeling in shock, for on the altar lay the body of a woman with blood poured out of her chest and onto the altar itself!
Your score has increased to 1
The veil is now in your inventory.

>Scream in fright
>>Scream in fright
Calm down, it's just a woman's bloody corpse. Well, I suppose that is a bit frightening. Anyway, you'd best take a closer look at this grisly scene.
>Take a closer look at this grisly scene
>>Take a closer look at this grisly scene
This mysterious woman is not breathing, and seems to have no pulse. From the looks of it, the wound in her chest must have done her in. As you ponder who could have done such a horrible thing, you notice what appears to be a ring of car keys clutched in her right hand.
You pry the ring of car keys out of the woman's hand. She won't be needing these anymore, and you are going to need a way out of here.
Your score has increased to 2
The keys are now in your inventory.
As you turn from the body, you notice a glint of light reflecting off of something in one of the pews.

>>Look for the source of the light
>Go to light
There are several fluorescent lights in the ceiling that are turned on. It seems that whoever was here last forgot to turn them off.
>>Go to light
You look down one of the pews and see that someone has left a handgun discarded on the seat!
>>Look at the handgun
>Snatch the handgun, you dirty thief, you.
It's a .38 Special, from the looks of it. Nothing unusual about it other than its location.
>>Snatch the handgun, you dirty thief, you.
You pick up the handgun and find that it has no bullets left. Still, could this be the murder weapon...?
Your score has increased to 3
The handgun is now in your inventory.
