Sad, but I can't fault her. Being a webcomic creator seems like a pretty thankless endeavor.

A shame, but not unexpected.

If one's a longtime fan of webcomics, one learns to accept that this is a possibility. Nothing lasts forever, and webcomics are a lot of work for little reward.

I can't even count how many webcomics I've become invested in over the years only to see them cancelled.

Yeah, it sucks but it's inevitable. At least she intends to tell us how the rest of the story was gonna play out—I was pretty invested in this story.

That's... sad. I can't say I'll be as invested in the story in a written format, to be perfectly honest.

Purely written can sometimes drive me away, but illustrated is usually enough to retain my attention.

Tweets from Gigi since yesterday:

for those of you who have followed me here for very long, this announcement is probably unsurprising. making this webcomic has brought me much joy, but it's just not sustainable going forward. thank you for your kindness.
hey, cucumber quest isn’t over yet, guys! cheer up! read the end of this chapter! [the end of this chapter is sad] oh
for those wondering, there are no current plans to publish book 5 onwards. this isn’t to say it will never happen, just that there are no plans right this moment.
i've read all of your replies and i'm at peace. thank you so much 🙏
one more retweet for the evening... thank you again for all your kind messages today. i'm truly fortunate to have such understanding readers
most of the responses i've received have been about the comic ending, and i appreciate them all (of course!) but...if i can make a selfish request...please tell me what you thought about the conclusion of chapter 5, too! 💦
if you have any feedback that might help make the script format easier to read next time, i'd appreciate that as well!
thank you for all your feedback so far! google docs was a somewhat awkward temporary solution, as many of you have mentioned. the final ending script will be, uh, something else? i'll have to think about it.

Man, I fell out of this comic because of all the hiatuses, but it always hurts to see an artist's passion project get abandoned.

Finally read through it. Ohhhh, what a way to end it! What a cliffhanger! I'm sad.

Still, I'm glad to know the story will be finished, even if it won't be the same. There's no point in Gigi forcing herself to draw for years on something that isn't giving her the same joy as it once did.

I finally got around to reading the ending of chapter 5. It's anticlimactic, comes out of nowhere and is unrelated to most things that happened previously in the chapter; but somehow I really liked it. Both the developments between Quakemaster and the Nightmare Knight and with the Dream Oracle and Nautilus were pretty good. I'm also surprised by how short it was. We were apparently much closer to the ending than I expected. It's possible that the ending was shortened due to the time issues, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what was added, since Quakemaster had to get taken out by the Nightmare Knight. Maybe a fight with Quakemaster where the heroes lose and/or a fight with the Dream Oracle (where the hereos also lose).
